I haven't played with Lego in a while but quarantine is making me want some. What's the most cost efficient way to get bricks in more subdued colors for building realistic houses/environments? All the officially sold sets of loose bricks just seem to contain garish primary colors.

The primary colors thing is due to Denmark being cold & grey most of the year, so people like to paint their houses in bright shades & hues to liven up their dreary days. Icelandic houses are like that too.

As far as the bricks you would want... I guess be on the lookout for the new, big boxes of basic bricks & pieces that come in a wide variety of colors? Bricklink sellers seem to overcharge on the "Subdued" colors you're looking for.

hey /lg/, I just finished with my first ever LEGO set. It's a pretty small start, I know, but I had a lot of fun putting it together! I'm a fan of the Monkie Kid series, but I wasn't ready to commit to one of the bigger sets so I went for the Monkey King Brickheadz. I really like how they depicted the detail of the fur on his head, especially in the back, it's clever and cute. This was super easy to assemble too, I wasn't really even considering getting one of the actual sets, but I liked this a lot, I might go for one.

These are the two looping parts, they're almost 50% too long for the screen, so I'll have to make some of the platforms shorter to make that work, Also the way the character jumping and moving works, It needs a path that's at least 3 blocks wide to move through, and need a 1 block tile to move up for pathing. The Marvel mechs don't use the same chassis/cockpit piece in that MOC/the Nexo mini-mechs. Possibly because the c-clips on that piece have a tendency to crack and break over time.
I've used like 3 in MOCs, of which one is almost fully broken, just hanging by the end and another one has a large crack in it. The third doesn't seem to be broken... yet.
I haven't checked my actual Nexo mini-mechs though.
The actually chassis/torso of the Marvel mechs are brick built with the chest-plate being the only unique part.

I used kylo ren's short cape secured to the back of batgirl's white variation with a hollow stud. The torso is Bilbo baggins', and I don't remember what the dress piece is from, but I found it on bricklink.

The electronic mario device has sensors to detect how it's being moved and what it's touching, it's up to the player's imagination and self regulation to imagine mario navigating the course you design at an acceptable pace to earn coins as you scan the various barcodes existing on blocks and enemies

Have a look at this breakdown
It's basically a starting point for imaginative play. There's a basic objective of collecting coins and reaching the finish before time runs out, but the player gets to decide the 'narrative' for what mario actually does in that time. At the end there's a coin count to provide some metric for how you performed, but in classic lego fashion the emphasis is still very much on imagination over strict gameplay

Went and finished this. the black back is single tile, aside from the red high lighted squares, those are black tile on black plate, the lava is single red tiles, and all the gray bricks are tiles on top of plates.
