It's crazy how fast they jumped into a third carnage release, but I'm pretty impressed. It's got all new sculpt with a bit more modern articulation. After owning the second carnage and the revo, I'm not sure I can justify it, but as a first or second carnage, it's pretty worth it.

I applaud this sculpt because it's an unprecedented amount of effort for Hasbro. This body can't be reused as far as I can imagine, and it requires a lot of careful paint apps. That said...

I don't actually like it. It looks gross in a way where I don't want to really touch it. I also feel like the black stuff is too uniform, I prefer thick and thin variation like the last Carnage they released.

I had an extra mafex head do to a factory screw up so I drilled and popped it on the new spidey. The red doesn't match the best, but I think it looks pretty good.

This is a must own. Feels quality. Heavy fun effect parts. Doesnt come off as cheap as the Classic Iron Man or 2020 figure.

IT's about tooling.

Since the MArvel line is ongoing, they don't want to slow things down to teach the workers how to use new tools or ways assembling the toys.
Whereas GI Joe and Overwatch was new, so they had time to retrain another factory, before it was released in stores.

You'll probably start seeing new engineering after the no-pegs (fewer pegs?) stuff comes out. They'll phase it new stuff in eventually. We saw the same shit happen with the 1:18 lines. Early Fury Files were pretty shit, but they upgraded the bodies there little by little (whereas the 1:18 movie lines had similar articulation to the MLs, despite being released at the same time). Stuff like the ankle rocking engineering actually happened with GI Joe first, then the MU line, and finally the Marvel Legends line.

Because Hasbro doesn't have to pay for a licencing fee so they can spend that money on articulation and paint apps and stuff.

More parts require more plastic, which is more money. And this relates to the cost of an entire wave, which is why we are getting a brand new Carnage with a unique, body sculpt, but then in the same wave we get another Buckycap figure. The cost of that new Carnage, Movie Venom and Morbius means cuts had to be made somewhere.

Because there are more parts than what you think there are in the new Joes, and the peg that connects the torso to the crotch is a bigger piece of plastic than the small little disc that Legends use to connect the torso to the crotch. The socket inside the torso and crotch is also a separate piece that the torso and crotch close around and hold in place. Also the crotch piece on the Joes has a soft rubber/plastic diaper that goes over the crotch. They also have drop down hinges in the crotch for added leg articulation.

So all in all there is more plastic in the Classified Joes than there is in Legends.

Should I do it, anons? I'm 50/50 on the Sentinel (don't love Sentinels in general but it looks fucking awesome to add to my room). And I... kind of? Have the money but it'll max out my card if I do. I know I'll regret missing out on it though. I can easily see the Sentinel itself without the accessories and two figures go for at least 600 alone within a week. But.. 350$.

I would not try taking the legs off if it's stuck.

The swivel below the hip can be taken off, as it's just a peg, and you need to pull it straight out. No twisting. Ever
I'd recommend submerging it into boiled water in a mug or coffee cup.
You have to be super careful with this and are prepared to take a loss on your first time, why not?

Boiling water is best way for everything, as it's hotter than a blow dryer and will get into every crevice. When you freeze it, whatever left over water will also help expand the joints to unstick them too. I always recommend shaking a figure dry though, as you really don't want any water to stay inside.

Everyone knows the cost of production is pennies per every dollar they charge.
No one is going to argue differently.

Point is though, Hasbro isn't overcharging more than any other company does. As said in the other thread, Hasbro is one of the very few companies that actually gives you more value for your buck.
They're one of the cheapest toy companies in the world that aren't bootleggers.

There's a HUUGE difference between something that's sold in mass market stores and one that's sold only to just thousands of people.
Walmarts and Targets order at LEAST one case per store, and they have thousands of stores in America. That brings down the cost of the toy by multiples.
If you were to compare it to like that guy from earlier, like the NECA Deadpool, it's way cheaper. NECA sells maybe tens of thousands of their figures, because they don't sell mass market toys. These are the numbers that Hasbro is selling with the Sentinel.
Another example is this $160 12" figure from Bandai. Again, not a mass market toy and that's why it costs so much (plus the Japanese mafia tax, which is why everything is so overpriced in Japan)

Again, stop being such a poorfag and thinking you should be only paying 2008 prices or wholesale prices.

The fucking Xfactor series was one of the poorest selling X-titles in the 90s. It basically only sold as much as it did because of "investors" who thought comics they'd never read would go up in value.
The people who actually READ the comic? LOVED the series, LOVED the characters, but they probably number in the tens of thousands.

To give oyu an idea of how few fans there actually are, the author who wrote the "famous" XFactor 90s series with Strong Guy in it, he was able to go back to writing it in the 00s. His book got maybe 30,000 sales per issue. The vast majority of the time, he was straddling the cancelation line for dozens and dozens of issues, which is ~26,000 sales a month.

The people who wanted to get toys of this unpopular series? They're barely a blimp compared to the fans of actual popular character like Nightcrawler or Dazzler.
Yep, purposely chose B-listers characters to compare how unpopular a D-lister like Strong Guy is.

X-Factor is one of the more niche X-Men titles, believe it or not, and I think the people who wanted Guido or just wanted to finish an X-Factor set were just a pretty loud minority. I wouldn't be surprised if toy speculators assumed he was going to be the next Apocalypse or something and stocked up to meet a demand that ended up not being there.

Lot of factors. Whereas with unicorn or the barge, where people bought two max, this guy can be army built. So price will go down because way more people bought one (and they bought more than one in many cases) but price is also being pulled up because people won’t want just one. It’s impossible to say how many people bought 1 vs 2 vs 3 vs 4 vs 5, and how many people intend to keep all, some, or none of the ones they bought. I’d assume the value will be at least double what the asking price is right now, but wouldn’t go so far as to say it will triple within the first year.

They did crowdfunding because they can’t sell this sort of thing on the shelves. Not being able to ship it to Walmart or target substantially increases the overall price, because now they have to pick a price tag that makes sense if they only get the bare minimum of pledges. More pledges = more profit, due to economies of scale. Shipping is going to eat into that, but producing 20k of the thing is far cheaper per unit than 5k. I’m sure they’re making a better profit margin since more people ordered it, even if that margin isn’t as good as selling 20k units of anything to a big box store.

Cobra trooper is kind of a bad example because it’s an exclusive to target, and unlike Walmart exclusives, their online stuff sells out instantly because they don’t implement captchas or any not protection whatsoever. Also their distribution sucks ass. That being said, Classified Red Ninja is also sold out everywhere and he’s an army builder.

I ordered a sentinel but I do want the prime sentinels. I’d love two more of the female ones and two more of the male ones. I don’t expect that to be very feasible though since many will probably sell those figures for at least $80 a piece.

Yeah, no. You don't realize that many of them are old men, which means they tend to be static in their beliefs, thus become outdated in terms of being liberal and being considered moderate or right compared to the newer generations. Right now even just being a moderate makes you alt-right.
So writers like Chuck Dixon, Larry Hama, and Peter David have gotten in trouble for speaking their minds to today's people, despite being famously progressive with their comics back in the day.
Anyway, point is that many people (moviecasuals) only know about comics thanks those vocal minorities drumming up hype and begging for old characters to be made into toys. They don't care to read the comics, they just look up a wiki and lipsync with the actual fans, and then left wondering why characters like Strong Guy aren't actually selling well or sought after.

Fucking still waiting for my Justice League INTERNATIONAL obscure buddy toys.

But this is the first year we started seeing “deluxe” figures (excluding Archangel a few years ago) which includes White Widow, War Machine, Kingpin, Toxin, Monster Venom, and Red Hulk. Those alone make up a decent amount of newly released figures. Plus the now-standard anniversary wave every year.

To be fair though, save for a handful of runs over the years (mostly by the same couple of writers), comics have been utter shit for 30 years now. The late 90s was cancer killing comics, the 2000s were it in hospice care, and the 2010s were sadists playing with it's corpse. But then again you wouldn't know, you get your comic facts wrong fairly regularly so I can only assume you don't actually read comics.

Just buy whatever you think looks good.

Toys that are 2-5x more expensive aren't necessarily better. It all depends on what you want.
The cheapo Hasbro figure might look great. Sometimes the Mezco looks better. Othertimes the Mafex looks nicer.

So personally, i like my toys to look like they should or if they're just aesthetically better looking.

Articulation wise, there's barely any differences (maybe 5-10% better range of motion) unless you go with Revoltechs, but they're highly stylized.

Also, you may want your toys to look like they belong in together. So scale and artist's may be something you want to pay attention to.
Two different styles together can sometimes look disjointed.

Ultimates is Millar shitting on superheroes and trying to point it out to the reader. “You like Captain America? Look at him. He’s a jingoist and an asshole, and you suck for liking”. X-Men was a mess of different writers and continuity, and Fantastic Four was even worse. Spider-Man was good though. And Ultimates was decent when Hickman took over.

Even after Loeb took a shit on the Ultimate universe, taht didn't stop Spiderman and even sequel Ultimates comics from being great.

Oh, and the Hickman run you're talking about? That was 10s, after Loeb and Bendis destroyed everything. Comics have never stopped being great. Things just get shuffled around, but there's always something great and interesting every single year, just like how htere's always been crap.

Oh geez, really? Come on, that was a great twist. Was Thor a real god or not? Was he just a hippy douchebag who happened to find the hammer? Maybe it's true that Thor did just steal some tech from a company trying to create superpowers.

If i had a complaint about the Ultimates 2, it's the way the bad guys begged for their lives. I mean, i get it, it's a more realistic take on humans getting powers, but all of them? Not good.

And i'm apathetic about Doom. I liked Ellis' FF but the designs are just meh to me. I don't hate them and i don't especially like them.

As for cross over events, i didn't really like a lot of them, but we got SOME decent stories and moments from them. I grew to like Ares because of them. BTW, these events were influenced a lot by the Ultimate universe. So this may be why you didn't really like them. I was fine with them, but i can understand your complaints.

No. My complaint was that it was edgy for the sake of being edgy. At the time, it was highly praised because of its cinematic storytelling. The book was structured like a movie script, which was novel for the time. It also helped the Bryan Hitch drew several of the characters to look like movie stars. Going back and reading it now, it's pretty mediocre and the novelty has worn off. I'm honestly surprised I used to want the original Avengers movie to be based off of it.

Again, it's a realistic take. You have professional soldiers (and mad scientists) fucking shit up, sometimes doing heroic things. They'er not superheroes though. Stop trying to insert 616 characters in the Utlimate universe.
In a post-9/11 world, you had people fearful of the type of people who would go around trying to play world police. It's commentary and a play on all that stuff going on in the world during that time.
