If playmates goes the route Mattel is doing with MOTU origins, they could probably keep the TMNT toyline going for a while. They've even said they are focusing more on classics as Rise toys did so poorly. A watered downed version of the Super7 figures at $15 in retail stores would pull in a lot more collectors that are not as invested on spending $45-100 a figure.

I got this from amazon it's actually a new one rather than a reproduction of the original. It uses the newer merchandising stock art. It's ok/10.
May get one of the originals though. They don't go for too much.

If Playmates was to go under I honestly see Mattel buying them out rather than Hasbro. Hasbro has too much on their hands as is. Mattel needs more franchises, Thomas,Barbie, and MOTU can only get them so far. Plus Mattel has made it clear several times that they dont want to sell out to Hasbro.

They tried to expand the properties that they hold, like with Ghostbusters, Overwatch and Power rangers.

Overwatch failed and /toy/ seems to think that the Power Rangers line isn't doing that well.

So I would say that Hasbro is open to buying up Playmates if their contract with TMNT is strong.

"Everyone", or even "pretty much everyone" is strong phrasing. She looks just as bad in person as she does in photos, and I imagine many reviewers might just be trying to cope with what they got due to how difficult these figures are to get in the first place. And look, I've liked most of the NECA TMNT figures so far, but they really messed up with April.

Playmates insider here, big shakeup coming next year on their TMNT line. Viacom is threatening them they that will lose the license if they don't make changes right now. Playmates plan to keep the license is to release a new 6 inch TMNT collector friendly line based on all the Turtles eras. If Playmates doesn't fix this they are close to losing the license, Mattel is already interested in taking it, Hasbro too.

It is pretty jarring to compare the 2012 tmnt toys to the 2018 tmnt line. Seems like a pretty significant drop in overall quality in design and materials. Like the Rise line was not really trying to match the look of the characters much at all.

The rise models are all a little wrong. Leo and Mikey need to be a lot skinnier, Donnie's head is the wrong shape, and Raph is too small with a totally wrong head too. On top of that they are all pretty bland and blocky.

They look even more bland next to the older series turtles with the more detailed shells, muscles, textures etc.

I agree she should be a HEAD taller than the turtles. But the scale on these NEcA figures is all over the place. Bebop and Rocksteady are a bit too larger, April and Shredder are a bit too small. But still, I'm happy with the purchase overall. I know people aren't talking about it, since the figure is older, but this is my first footsoldier and it is a really cool figure as well.

NECA already has the license dumb ass. So does Super7. Jazzwares would probably try to get it. They've been doing okay lately with Fortnite and AEW figures. They also have the talent to sculpt wack figures with good articulation. Mattel would probably stay away as it would conflict with their Masters line, and Hasbro needs to chill and focus on the brands they have and stop spreading themselves too thin.

I chose Warrior Bebop because it was released when I had already stopped collecting TMNT. I lost interest the previous year, when all I was seeing on shelves were the awful Movie 3 turtles, so I didn't even see or know about this guy until a few years ago seeing it on an ebay auction.

I liked the Bebop character design alot and I had the original, the nazi, and the mutating figures. That being said, the robot Rocksteady and Bebop set are also high on my list of wants, but the Warrior aesthetic tops both because it meshes with my MOTU interests as well.

Interesting thing about this one, I was randomly thinking of the figure, and my dogs randomly dug my old one up from somewhere in the yard. It was dirty and beyond repair (years of dirt caked inside) but the left arm and right leg looked salvageable.

ebay'd a copy that was listed as "missing left arm" which was perfect, but it came in and it wasn't just missing, the joint peg was snapped. So I Frankenstein'd the my old one for the peg and with a lot of strategic filing managed to attach it without damaging the water seal.

FYI if you’re thinking of getting this guy check his head. I’ve seen four of these now that have zero glue holing the top of the head to the helmet. The only glue is on the sides where his ears would be.
This makes the helmet sit wrong on the head.

Man I know Playmates has fucked up a lot, but its crazy to think Mattel of all companies might be the greener grass to people. As mismanaged as the Classics line was and the movie turtles were bad, they're still more ambitious than the soulless DC figures Mattel chugged out at the end, or the MOTU retro line they're doing which is practically an excuse not to do much work. Their wrestling line is the only one that's respectable and even then its more that they've done so much at this point collectors can't just ditch it.

All I know is I'm not getting her the way she is now. If they do release a 2nd version with a body that's properly scaled, I'm all over it, though. No idea if they will do it, but here's hoping. They did end up re-releasing the turtles a few times, but there is a big difference between repaints and changing the mold.

I actually like Playmates Classics Bebop and Rocksteady more than Super7 or Neca. People complain about them not being show accurate ,which is what I like about them; they're idealized versions of the show designs.

Nigga, that series ended. Rise is getting cancelled and won't get a second season. TMNT 2012 was a hit like the 2003 series. Both ended their stories, only that the 2012 toy line was also more succesful. The Bay turtles damaged the brand a lot.

I'd say Walmart was also a contender for the death of a lot of smaller toy stores and/or toy specialty stores. Considering their huge retail status, they have a lot of pull regarding how and who makes certain toys, and how they're distributed. Often times, toys end up having things like detail, articulation, paint, etc. cut because Walmart wants the toys to fall under a certain price point. If they don't fall under that price point, Walmart won't carry them, and that's a huge chunk that toy companies miss out on.

So toy companies either have to half-ass mass release toys so everyone will carry them, including walmart, or they can make the toys better but reach a much narrower audience.

Krang body appeared din the show in the second season and was in almost every single episode after that. but they released wave after wave of costume variants, and side characters that may have appeared once or not at all for years before they finally got around to actual scaled android body Krang.

It's been pretty fun putting it together. Plus the materials are cheap. Tubes of acrylic paint, foam safety mats, Elmer's glue and hot glue sticks.

Also, airbrushing is fun, but I'm kinda trash at it. But it woulda made the weathering easier than the watered down paint and dry brushing I already did.

Happy with how the Leo head turned out.
