Of all the new DC crap coming down the pipeline the only thing I can say I'm truly looking forward to is Shazam 2. The new Batman flick looks fine, flashpoint seems fun, and I guess black adam could be cool but it seems like they're all doubling down on the dreary snyderverse aesthetics. I wish Shazam wasn't the only bright and lively DC project in production. Moreover, isn't it odd that we're gearing up to see Superman fight Black Adam? Why is that the go-to? Alot of weird decisions are being made just to further this cinematic universe. Aside from all that, I really hope Cena kicks ass as Peacemaker. The charlton heroes deserves better.

If that's the case then the multiverse line will probably get better as time carries on. As long as we branch out from Batman and his rogues I'll be happy. Etrigan and Fate would make great stepping stones into more obscure territory. It'd be neat to get some of Superman's rogues and close friends. I think Todd's style would take well to the Guardian, Steel, Livewire, Metallo, and Parasite. I really do hope he does more 05' Teen Titans.

Besides some weird hybrid Harley, variant Azraels and Joker from White Knight, and a comic Joker (upcoming) (and the variant Batmen, but I wouldn't call them Batman villains), we haven't actually gotten any Batman villains, like Mr Freeze, or Bane, or those kind of guys. 2021 will bring Batman villains, as was mentioned by Tye, but I think that's pretty exciting. Bat characters are to be expected, but if we can branch off from just Batman to the rest of his world, that's pretty exciting, I think. Of course I'm also excited for the wider DCU, so we'll just have to wait and see what's coming up.

Just guessing but I'm not too sure about this one. He doesn't have the most exciting design, an he hasn't done much recently (though he was featured in Metal, as well as a big bloody death pit in DCeased), but if the line goes long enough I could imagine he'd get made.

Todd should take note of how Hasbro is handling legends, not in terms of design, but in terms of themed waves. Other wise every multiverse wave will just be a bunch of batmen and jokers alongside a few unrelated DC heroes. If we could get a batman wave alongside a regular DC universe wave, I think that would settle alot of problems.
As for Plastic Man, he has been in alot of stuff recently. Outside of DKM, he played a huge role in Justice League Action and The Terrifics (which I really recommend reading). Overall it strikes me as odd how little attention DC has payed Plas. DC hasn't even greenlit a Plastic Man movie, which is especially weird considering Disney bumped off Deadpool. Eel could not just take his place, but totally dethrone him. Not only that but Plastic Man has a sizeable fanbase from back in the day just like Shazam. All Im saying is that O'Brian has a stupid amount of potential.

Mignola's DC stuff could make some great figures. His New Gods concept art would make fun figures too. Which reminds me, now that DCD is gone, we're probably never going to see artist based figures ever again. They were pretty much the only company that gave enough of a shit to go that far. I'd kill for a line of super articulated fourth world figures with sculpts as good as the direct figures.

The most the shadow has ever gotten were those Kenner figures that coinsided with his 90's big screen debut. Outside of that it's alot of stuff and nothing. Pharmaceutical rack toys and the occasional article of clothing if you're lucky.

Unfortunately, there will always be more unfinished masterpieces than completed ones. That's a big downside to movie making. Look into Ridley Scott's I Am Legend adaption that was meant to star Schwarzenegger. The art is so stunning and vivid you can practically picture it all in your head.

I mean, for mid to late 2020 we have 5 waves, the 2 Wonder Women for the movie, the White Knight wave (3 themed characters), the Dark Knights Metal wave (3 Dark Knights and Grim Knight), the Merciless BaF wave (4 characters that appeared in Metal plus a Metal related BaF), and then the upcoming wave which is all over the place (Flash, Az Bats, TT Cyborg, and Joker). It seems like for the most part we are getting themed waves that have a lot of cohesion. Likewise Legends has themed waves like the AOA wave, but then they also have waves all over the place besides a few characters that fit the theme, like the Avengers game wave.

You're entirely correct, I was kind of underwhelmed by the MK11 styled "teasers" they showed off for Black Adam and Flashpoint myself. Hell, if it wasnt for the loads of concept art, I dont think as many people would still be discussing "Superman Lives".

Watch a review and give it some thought. Some people seem to like these and others hate them. If you like Stewart you should be at least somewhat ok with the final product, I'd imagine. I don't personally own one of those 3 Animated figures, so I don't have much of an opinion on them.

I totalley agree. I know a lot of people don't like DCD for their limited articulation but I really loved the artist based figures. The Darwyn Cooke and Alex Ross ones are some of my favourite versions.

It does seem like Mcfarline might be picking up that mantle with the stuff they're doing now. I dident like the look of their early ones (like the Batman and Superman animated, etc) but the more recent ones like White Knight Batman & Joker and Batman Grim Knight look great to me. They seem to be focusing on recent stories but hopfully they look at some of the older comics at some point since they're trying to cater to collectors.

I never understood why DCD got shit for these. They were pretty much perfect plastic recreations of the art. You are right though, Todd seems to be dipping his toes into the water when it comes to art based figures. What irks me however is the fear that he'll never complete these sets, where as DCD completed entire ensembles.

Man, I know I keep shilling for it, but this line is just good, cheap fun.

I picked up some of the two packs on Amazon since distribution is so fucked right now and I've only seen the early Batman waves in stores. If I ever find the Superman and Flash with the really pretty armor I might double dip on them. I also had to get Killer Moth off of ebay since he's in high demand.

Except for Catwoman , this next wave is a little bland imo. I'll probably get blue hands King Shark, but I'm holding out hope they'll do a single release of him with the great white head instead of the hammerhead. This one's different enough that he can be a new shark guy if they do.

Flashpoint BatDad looks ok, but doesn't seem to have any new remolding and no pointy cape shoulders.

How do the monsters scale with the regular figures? Given the Swamp Showdown pack, Croc looks to be really small, relatively speaking.

The weirdest aspect of BTAB, is the fact that the best toyline the show got went under the radar for most. I didn't discover them until way after the show stopped airing. I recommend most atleast look into the BATB Action League. Obviously they were spurred on by Hasbro's Superhero Squad, but they're just leaps and bounds better. Not just due to their aesthetic (which is admittedly a matter of personal taste) but because they cover every inch of the show's universe.

Yeah, they're all kind of the same height which sucks. Shark would be about the same. Bronze Tiger has some pretty good height on the rest though. They have good bulk though; they feel hefty.

The real problem is Robin who is too tall and has the worst fucking legs of the entire line. He can't stand up straight and that's as close as his legs go together. I'm going to have to perform some extensive surgery him.

That's what I was afraid of; Croc should not be a swole manlet. Don't know why I thought the Walmart Croc was different from the Swamp one. Oh well, I wasn't planning on getting Robin regardless if I take the plunge. He's too tall and that's enough for me to skip him.

You could always buy the Croc from the most recent evergreen line, "batman unlimited". He's exactly 6 inches tall, as the batmen from that line were 5 inch scale, which works out in your favor as the spinmaster figures are 4 inch scale.

We always point out alot of DC merch is exclusively Batmen focused. Yet we never take the time to rank the evergreen batmen lines. Would anyone care to mention their favorites? Kenner's Mission Masters and Tales of the Dark Knight were pretty badass. They certainly rank amongst my favorites.

If anyone is in need of a laugh I recommend watching the Batman Unlimited movies. They are toy commercials in the most literal sense, yet they play these scenarios so straight it manages to be entertaining. I believe there's three, but I only remember the "Mechs vs Mutants" and "Monster Mayhem" ones. In Mechs vs Mutants, Clayface and Bane get turned into Kaijus, prompting Green Arrow and Batman to pilot mechs to fight them.
In monster mayhem, Manbat amasses an army of mutants to fight batman, forcing batman to unleash a giant robot dinosaur on them.

The Knight Force Ninjas line had some of my favorite figures when I was a kid. I loved this Batman because of the red symbol/belt and the battle damage. Azrael was also pretty cool but for the most part I bought Hasbro's TNBA stuff instead.

I love the Legends of the Dark Knight line myself, feels like they wanted to ape McFarlane in a good way. Some really cool original designs here. I especially love the Dark Knight inspired Joker that's suit explodes into a skinny Joker.

Mattel made most of the squad in their Multiverse line. As you can guess, most of them were lackluster. I think Killer Croc was one of the few decent-looking ones and he was the BAF.

Yes, it's the craziest depiction I ever seen of him and I love him. They really went out of their way to embody his multiple personality disorder. The myriad of tubes and wires pouring in and out of him give him an especially nightmarish quality. He's just great.

Depends on what version you're after really. If you're looking for articulation, your best options are the DCUC figure (though the hover craft he comes with is a giant warped pile of shit) and the new 52 DCD figure. You'd effectively have to buy the 05 Kirby Orion for a decent hovercraft to pop him on.

Legends of the Dark Knight is caked with details like that. If you really like their Clayface, you owe it to yourself to look into the rest of the line. Scarecrow looks like a heavy metal mascot, every variation of both batman and robin are bordering on being devilman rogues, and every chick in the line looks like something out of Frank Frazetta's wetdreams. Hell most of the accessories the figures were packed with can act as seperate figures on their own. It really was a swan song kind of toyline.

Glad to spread the word as well. Kenner got a bad rep but as the comics have taken to doing all these variations of Batman lately its not so weird. I especially love this Batgirl

Fun bit of trivia by the way, when they made the Batman Dark Knight collection toyline based on the first movie before Batman Returns, they wanted to make different colored batman figures to fill out the line(Toy Biz's only had three figures infamously, one being Bob the goon), but weren't sure if they wre allowed to. Someone used the Golden Age Rainbow Batman story as an example that different colored Batman designs were comic based, and used that to justify the multitude of Kenner variants to come.

He's actually based off of Clayface III, a guy, who's sort of like Mr. Freeze, but he's melting constantly and has to wear a special suit to keep his body together. He also sucks the life force out of people, melting them into a pile of mush in order to stop his constant pain.

Well if we're keeping to an evergreen theme, I highly recommend Proto. Not only does he have a great design but he was voiced by Adam West in BATB. Alot of the Kenner DC toy lines are pretty great actually. Swamp Thing, Superman, Super Powers, etc. Im unsure of what else to bring to your attention.

Kenner's run with the caped crusader was especially bombastic. Thanks to that one anon for pointing out the silver age justification for mulitcolored batman repaints, because that essentially gave Kenner carte blanche with the character for the remainder of the decade. It's important to highlight the "Legend of Batman" toyline as it acts as the link between Kenner's movie and cartoon based batman lines and the wilder toylines of the late 90s. Legends of Batman basically saw the dark knight reimagined to suit different historical eras. We saw the likes of Egyptian Batman, Samurai Batman, Centurion Batman, and many other. But in my opinion the greatest thing to come from the line was pic related. The "Sky-Bat" , a giant mechanical bat that was designed as an accessory for Samurai Batman. It has articulated little legs that can grab onto villains while batman pilots it and everything.

I would love to see stuff like this come into the Spin Masters line. You kind of see it with the swamp with Croc, but I want more specialized sculpts and crazy gimmicks. Like, Mission Masters had a whole series of glow in the dark figures, fucking radical.

Some of these look like leftovers from the Legends of the Dark Knight line, like Virus Delete Batman.

How do to the Spinmaster 3 3/4th figures scale with the Mattel Infinite Heroes line?

All this Kenner Batman talk is genuinely making me reconsider getting the walmart exclusive batman. It's inaccuracies are reminiscent of some of the later hasbro batmen. Moreover it doesn't seem as though the figure's short comings would be a hard fix. A little bit of paint, apoxie, and joint transplants could help the figure out alot.

I also picked up the chase Croc. I didn't need him, but eh. I was considering trying to give him longer legs from some donor Croc figure like >>8405524, so now I've got another one to work with. I wish he was painted more like his art with the vibrant green splashed up his hands. Instead his hand wraps are painted a sort olive green, which is just subtly different than his actual plastic color. Odd choice.

That was most people's complaint with the figure. For whatever reason he amalgamated the BTAS colors and logo with the TNBA design. Some folks have gone ahead and modified the figure however. It really brings to light how close the figure was to being perfect. The figure itself isn't bad, it's design just put people off I think.

I happened to remember this particular two pack the other day and thought I'd share. The late 90's really was Kenner's peak in terms of toy design. The final four batman toylines (Legends of the Batman, Legends of the Dark Knight, Batman Forever, and Batman and Robin) really showcased their creative talents in full. Wild colors, weird and lively naming schemes, wacky gimmicks and concepts, and even wilder accessories to boot. No two figures bring that manner of bat shit insanity (no pun intended) to fruition more so than these two. The brains vs brawn two pack really is something to behold.

At some point he seemingly transmuted both Mr.Freeze's right arm and leg, presumably taking his powers with them. But the madness doesn't end there, as he's seemingly also stolen Poison Ivy's abilities too. The idea of all this is crazy enough, but Kenner being Kenner, went ahead and made the figure's limbs of a transulcent swirled plastic to fully indicate the volatile nature of this brave new Bane. There's a lot going on his sculpt and the swirled plastics gives so much grotesque depth to the "clay" parts if him. Very cool. His faces are super neat and I love how each eye is shared by two faces. And he works at any scale really. If he just had like elbows or just outward shoulder joints he'd be amazing, but still well worth picking up.

It was a doubly good mail day and now he and Mr. Freeze can team up. Freeze is kind of a shitty toy honestly. He's in such a static pose that his limited articulation feels even more limited. Mission Masters Freeze is the kind of figure you buy just to admire the sculpt. Which is a shame, because it's such a toyetic yet simple design to begin with. The BTAS Freeze figures are pretty much your best bet for the 4.5 inch scale. I agree with you, the gimmick itself is cool.

Kenner's Un-men are pretty rad too. They came with freaky monster armor that doubled as henchmen for each of them. To boot, they all branded glow in the dark eyes and teeth. Good thinking on your part anon! Freeze deserves to chill out anyways (stupid joke I know). If you're looking to nab a BTAS Freeze I gotta recommend Duo Force Freeze. I'm probably biased, but I just love the absurd colors they chose for him. He screams "90's snow suit". His accessories are pretty wild too, altogether, he comes off as looking almost alien.
Kudos on your swamp thing point too. It's a criminal shame the swamp thing cartoon didn't catch on. It's hokie, but it's the fun kind of hokie. A fun cross between Captain Planet and the Ninja Turtles. The toyline is especially neat.

This one is another personal favorite. It's just such a wild two pack. The superman figure is pretty meh (I never much cared for the superman design from action to begin with). Lobo and Mr.Mind however are the real stars of the show. It's still available on amazon for twenty bucks for those of you after a decent Lobo. The bonus being the Action line fits in pretty well with the spinmasters line. I own Swampy and Lobo myself. The big guys are 5 inches, and the regular guys are 4 inches.

Man, despite my love for wild batman variants, the beyond line is just hideous. There are about 3 solid terry figures, a decent blight, and thats about it. Same set, I meant they definitely came from the same line
Batman's removable cowl had his cape and chest. The chest was green and his eyes were green. I don't remember if anything else about him was green but I don't think anything else was except maybe the gloves and boots. Cape was black. Like I said, cowl comes off and he's Bruce Wayne. I think his gloves came off too because I remember him having normal gloves a person would wear rather than the ones that went up his arm and had spikes on it. I'm not a toy guy so I don't know what size he would have been but he was probably at least two times the size of the DCAU figures.

That's not it, sorry. Wasn't glow in the dark, I think it was a darker green, more emerald. Like I said, cowl was removeable which doesn't seem to be the case here. Torso was green, had green eyes. Robin was standard, didn't have those weird lines, had straight up green pants and short sleeves instead of sleeves on top of long sleeves. Weird how that's branded as generic Batman but is obviously DCAU Batman.

Nah, wasn't Keaton Batman or DCAU Batman, it was generic Batman, probably just based on comics.
It was closer in style to the Keaton one - the torso piece is kind of similar (not entirely, but close in that it was the chest piece.)
The Bat logo was simply a black one with no oval.
Like I said, I think the gloves came off, which again is similar to that Keaton model, but I think it was a soft plastic, not a hard plastic, like one you could squeeze, though I could be completely wrong.
Seeing that belt reminds me, I think the belt came off - not elastic like other hero belts I've had and seen but hard plastic that clicked on and off.
I don't think it shared the same mould as that Keaton Batman, though. I don't know when that one came out but considering its Keaton, unless that's a rerelease or something it would've been around 89. Mine was from late 90s/early 2000s. Anyhow, the mould had knee and upper arm articulation, which the Keaton one doesn't seem to have. The Batman I had had biker gloves, kind of like the one in the DCAU one there. He had a gray long sleeve shirt. As it was more based on classic Batman and not Val Kilmer, he had black hair and probably blue eyes. The mould was also closer to the Keaton one, but bulkier (not by a long shot, he just had more muscly arms and was a bit bigger than that Keaton one)

It sounds like you're describing figures from Mattel's 2003/4 Batman line. That included a Bruce Wayne/Batman figure with a removeable green chestplate and gauntlets. Here's a link to a checklist of the figures - I think the ones you remember are from series 3 and 4.

Bang on. Had that Bruce Wayne and Robin. It's been bugging me, one of those things that's been in the back of my mind that I couldn't ever remember/find. I always wanted to know just to find out who else was in that series. Again, not a toy person so maybe you know better than me, but always amuses me they make thousands of variations of the heroes yet have such slim pickings for the villains. I get kids love the heroes and the heroes sell, but what good is it if you have no villains? I had a lot of the JL/JLU figures growing up and similar problem, the only villains I remember having were Two Face (funnily enough also from a Mattel Batman line), Ultra Humanite and Brainiac. Everyone else was heroes, and I even had a handful of different Batmen, Supermen and Flashes.

I think part of the appeal of the Swamp Thing toyline, in my opinion atleast, is seeing a DC character outside of Batman or Superman getting the treatment they usually would. That was one of the aspects of the movie aquaman toys I liked so much. Yet, I felt like they completely dropped the ball with the shazam kid's line.

Silver age superman could foster an entire toyline with ease. Not just with gimmick variants like old superman, bizarro, turtle boy jimmy, etc but with sheer characters alone too. There still hasnt been a Lori Lemaris figure to this day.

These look almost like the Neca. Where did these pics come from? Based on their later waves, this doesn't seem to match the style of what Mattel was making, unless the production figures ended up a lot less detailed and a lot less paint.

Look good though, and if we can expect something like these for Masterverse I'd certainly be pleased with that.

These are hand painted prototypes from the sculptors. They're not the same shit that Mattel produces, who can and has changed the body to make them cheaper to be produced. So the production figure could have been another Superman body done in cheap glossy colored plastic.

See pic on how much detail was lost on one of their Aquaman movie toys.

I'm used to seeing Mattel's prototypes at various shows and one of their biggest disappointments was their Shark King. It was sublime compared to that chintzy children's toy Mattel released. Looked like they stuck a real shark's head to a quality body.

It's unfortunate DC has strayed so far from the classic incarnation of the legion. At this point, whatever unlucky souls inherited the name ought to be entirely new characters. Same goes for the teen titans more or less. I wish DC would just embrace it's light hearted roots instead of routinely aiming for grimdark misery. Hopefully spinmasters can cover this same slew of characters and then some.

Even though Mattel was increasing the quality of their output towards the end of their run with the license, they still deserved getting it taken away from them. They spent a decade putting out some of the pug ugliest miserable excuses for DC figures ever made. Had they made an effort to better themselves, say, after the failure of both the green lantern and man of steel toylines, things could have been different. In all honesty, this is one situation that I think worked out for the best. Mattel is actively improving their figures now that they lost DC, Spinmasters is making some of the most fun DC toys since maybe the days of Kenner's Super Powers line, and mcfarlane is covering everything else.
With DCC gone, who's to say someone else won't enter the fray and take their place? If we're talking toys, I can't imagine a better time to be a DC fan.

If you showed this figure to someone who doesn't know comics and asked them who they thought it was, there's no way they say Batman. They're technically Bruce (or Bryce in this case) but I'd hardly call any of the Dark Knights "more Batman", except maybe Grim Knight since he actually mostly looks the part.

And Drowned finishes up a team they started this Fall (BWL technically from earlier this year). A team of 7 characters (or 8 if you want to include Grim Knight) will be completed in January.

Oh don't get me wrong, while I do like these releases well enough and appreciate the sculpts and all that, if it was either them or say Martian Manhunter, Etrigan, Killer Moth, Darkseid, etc, I'd far rather pick the latter. Same mostly goes for Thomas Wayne, we haven't really seen him in a retail line before, and while he is literally more Batman, he still brings some element of newness to him, than just a Bruce Wayne variant. Same thing for Az-Bat, same thing with WK Joker to regular Jokers.

But yes, if we're saying more variety or more Batman, of course I'll pick more variety, but Batman is also an inevitability, and complaining every time there's a new variant of even regular Bruce doesn't do a whole lot. Every Batman figure will be someone's first, potentially someone's hook into the line.

The main Metal team is done, but Death Metal introduced so many new variants, and if the Metal figures are actually as popular as they're making it sound, I'd imagine money talks and we see more. That said, I would think that everything for 2021 is more or less planned out by now (though McFarlane seems to work on a more flexible but also shorter schedule, from what they've said), and this year is supposed to bring a lot more variety, so we'll have to see what happens. McFarlane keeps a lot of information of their lines really close to their chest, and unless we get leaks, when we finally hear about new products from McFarlane themselves it's likely coming in the next few months.

Perhaps the Cyborg wave is a good indication of things to come, some completely new and generic characters that'll fit in a general display (Joker and Flash), some continuing old series of figures (Az Bat), and some starting a new series of figures (2003 TT Cyborg). With the next wave being what I'd imagine is a general Damian, 2 Metal/Death Metal characters in Black Lantern Batman and The Drowned, as well as one potential new series of figures in Red Son Superman, there's some measure of pattern to these 2 4 figure waves (though the latter also comes with the bat-cycle).
