Minions is bigger than asia and lego has better distribution in asia markets. Look it up, mega has barely any presence in asian markets besides expat corners and its usually over priced, whereas lego is cheaper, why do you think lego minions had a dragon float set?

There's been some smaller Inventions packs with scenery themes but they've mostly transitioned to clearance if you can still find them. Some of the Poke sets come with nice terrain pieces too. Your best bet otherwise is to trawl CL and other such marketplaces for bulk lots of older Dragons and Pyrates stuff, got a fair amount of those parts that way.

Until recently, just about every small set came with something terrain-wise, even if it was just a few bricks and a plant or two on one of their trademark angular plates. They haven't totally done away with this model but feels like it's getting harder for newcomers to Mega to accumulate a decent stockpile. Been in it since the first wave of Halo Wars sets and even then it took a while to get enough to make a substantial setup without also using one of the old battlegrounds. There are tubs of Mega bricks with colours suitable for brick-built terrain to complement what terrain pieces you have, got the 480-piece one sitting around for whenever I finally make a Caldron-themed setup, heh.

Mentioned in the last thread that I'd picked this up, thought I'd share a couple pics and first impressions. Didn't know anything about it beyond what the front looked like when I saw it at TRU, was in a hurry so I didn't check it out until later after getting home. Was surprised to see they've continued with the Lego model of displaying parts contents on the side of the box for "basic" type sets, despite being Halo-themed. Was also very much impressed with the pile of weapons included; had this set pegged for being a glorified rehash of the UNSC Builder's Forge of a couple years ago and in some ways it still is, but a bunch of guns definitely makes it an improvement. Getting two figs instead of one is also a plus, as well as all the neat specialty parts. The box itself is a cool idea with the (fake) brick as a lid latch and they're particularly keen on showing off their newest brick separator design which I've yet to try for myself. I haven't built anything yet besides the figs, the instructions booklet has the builds on the box art (turret, Mongoose and mini Pelican) but there's a QR code that gets you their mobile device-only interactive instructions for more builds, was hoping for a PDF of those but haven't found that yet.

The two figs, their arsenal and some of the more notable pieces. The UNSC display screen is pretty sweet, deployable cover and traffic cones are great throwbacks and the figs are nicely painted, though I wish their forearms and legs matched the rest to make them true Red vs Blue. Was $40 CAD for 450 pieces which felt reasonable, especially when the Warthog Rally was the same price for 314 pieces (picked it up also anyway cuz gotta catch 'em all). The more I think about it, the more it feels like a redux of that Forge set; the front cover builds for both feature a defensive structure with gun turret, Mongoose and mini Pelican and a mandate to get creative. This one feels like a better approach, giving you two figs instead of one and lots of other goodies. Forge did have PDFs for their pictured alternate builds, hopefully this newer set will get the same at some point.

The hands broke for the original or got lost so I replace them with elite arms. I also put his head in flame during hurricane Sandy. I keep him around because I think it looks cool. Thanks for the help.

There were three ODST sets that came out early on:

One of my biggest regrets is missing out on the tank, was too broke when they came out and it seemed like they didn't stick around very long. ODST figs popped up in various other sets and blindbag series, and the Rookie got a little set with a Wombat recon drone. The NMPD Pelican is probably the most game-specific set to come out for ODST, had to pass on that too for similar reasons heh.

The original drop pods were amazing, they came with at least two weapons for the trooper, a backpack and was designed to be able to stow everything nicely. The clamshell pods that came out later kept the same look but dispensed with a functional pod to become a gimmick for getting single figs, wasn't a huge fan but I got at least one of each anyway. The newer drop pops went the play feature route, where you can slam one down and the front hatch will fly off. Though they're bigger than the originals they're actually more cramped on the inside due to the mechanism. You also only get one weapon and no pack, and most of the time you can't even stow it properly.

The most recent set we got was last year's ODST Squad Ambush, one of the 2vs2 series pitting a couple ODSTs against two Brutes in the distinctive red and black patterns.

Mega was on a drop pod roll for a while, other than the same cheap clamshells they haven't done Elite drop pods since.

There is no greater joy than getting a box filled with misc. parts from a building toyline and picking through it to see what treasures might be buried within. It's only happened to me a few times, with Mega once and with Xevoz a few times.

I was so happy when the stores in my country started stocking Mega Bloks a few years ago. But in the end they stocked like two waves of CoD, a whole bunch of TMNT (both movie and Nick), a small stock of halo blindbags that evaporated overnight, and only half the first Destiny sets. The armories and the fake bionicle. All I wanted from the whole company's production line was a small armored dude.

I looked around Google to see what other sets were in this line but I didn’t find much. However, I did discover that they come with a lot terrain pieces. Picture related. Not my image btw.

Which is pretty cool. Really like the 4 tentacles dragon and freaky orange pincer tentacle monster. Top right looks pretty good too. Worth noting is that this is the first set of Beasts with not a single new piece among them.

And here are Spitters series 2. Metallic purple with the glow in the dark legs looks nice, as do the translucent ones. The new head looks sufficiently weird, and the insect legs are a nice looking addition.

Just got Tentazor from wave 5 (after accidentally grabbing Grifglo because I didn't read the code carefully...) and he's great, and he'll look even better once his parts clear up and reveal their translucence. Can't wait to grab his two siblings from wave 6 here. Can start an eldritch horrors crew with these beasts and some of the spitters too.

It started because the first troop packs were desert and jungle, kinda like tan and green army men, so I sticked to that.

Hell this new wave is the easiest way to get Shepherd without the Apache helicopter gunship set and has that elaborate camo paint app on all the uniform. Woods has bare arms, Soap has fingerless gloves painted.

Ordered with left being the oldest and right the newest. Last one on right is real mega bloks for comparison. The bootlegs have really improved in that they dont have mold flash and floppy joints anymore. However, the plastic used is softer and therefore the details just wont be very sharp.

Any decals and prints youd see on renders are also 100% bullshit and dont exist on the actual figures. At least they finally figured out lego sized weapons dont fit mega bloks hands so the newer ones have weapons with thinner grips.

Honestly just get the real deal unless its something that interests you that Mega hasnt made or doesnt sell anymore. I want the new Soviet troop pack but I cant be assed to order shit during covid.

Yeah, that doesn't seem worth it, Mega figs aren't that pricey in the first place. I'm not crying over another $2 over here. Also, generic soldiers aren't really my thing, I might take interest if they did like, Predator KOs or something, so I could easily army build packs and make customs from them.

I noticed the Wonder Buiders tank set is up for sale on Amazon, and it's not completely terrible looking? It looks hefty, and the projectile shooting gimmick is incorporated into the build pretty well. Say what you will about the figures, but the rifles look alright.

The rifles look like the terminator rifles, only unpainted (pic related, the one in the middle). I’m getting that tank definitely and the container too. If anything, it’s useful for background shots and the rifles are pretty good.

There was going to be this set with this german tank and the bunker, but Kevin (Mega designer) said it was show to several retailer and none wanted to carry it, so it was cancelled.

We did get the Vs pack with the Nazis and Allies afterwards, so I think it was just the set itself, rather than the topic, that stores didn’t want.

Well that is incredibly disappointing, all of my sets are from the US. And I doubt we will ever get German/russian vehicles period in that case since retailers aren’t willing to have the big bad on their shelves, even if it’s a toy

The weapons issue bugged me a lot, the only German gun we got was a Luger while most had to make do with Garands, that lame sniper rifle (way overused) and revolvers. The brick-built Flammenwerfer in the 16-pack was nice, at least. Can always issue the troops with 3rd party armaments, with precautions taken to protect their hands.

Yeah, I was going to ask if we had gotten an Lee Enfields in other sets. I would have preferred two of those because the set already comes with a MG.

They probably went with Brens and Stens since they're more identifiable to the layman, to most people the LE is just another rifle. As a point of consolation, British infantry had a reputation for being able to fire their LEs so quickly that it seemed like machine gun fire, so loading these guys up with and MG, LMGs and SMGs isn't far off the mark, heh.

You build up 3 pillars with 2x2 bricks, so it's not flimsy. The downside is that it turns that parapet of CG into an unusably-small room.

I had alot of their buildable figures. To some degree I preferred them to early bionicles. They had that same aesthetic with better articulation and weird gimmicks. Remember the plasma bots or whatever? They were these giant kaiju sized alien cyborgs with visible vascular systems. Shit like that always gave me an appreciation for mega over lego.

In my state (NJ), you seldom see them on the shelves anywhere. I live by two walmarts, two targets, two Gamestops, and one Five Below, and every time I go to the toy aisle of the Mega is either sold out or thrown into clearance. GS just has the older CoD and Destiny sets.

I agree. I was very lucky to find them when I did. It was that in-between period when Mega Bloks stuff was still on the shelf and they were the last ones. I barely had enough of those terrain pieces to build what was pictured.

If you want more I suggest looking at Mega’s old stuff. The Pyrates, Command Ops, WoW, and Dragons line had some cool terrain pieces.

Ive been trying to build a blood gulch bunker, or two. Probably need 2 or 3 more of the large buckets to get it how I want. Also kinda hard to build a circular building with square bloks.

Yes. I painted all but the green one and blue one, someone else painted caboose. Need to paint up the freelancers, but have the main cast from the halo 1 and 2 versions. Im not the best at painting but do ok.

How do you paint your Mega figs?
I've bought quite a lot of figs from retailers in China and I want to paint white Elite zealots, yellow spec ops grunts and grey storm grunts into different ranks (you know orange/red/green)
How would you go about this? Which paints do you use? Do you make a black layer first?

Use acrylic paints. Enamel is thinned with acetone, so it will damage the plastics. I use vallejo mecha paint, but citadel is pretty good and some people get good results from anitas or apple barrel.

You should use a primer for lighter colors, but not neccessary.

I do use black first, but typically do the cracks and grooves, then paint and avoid those spots, but dont always go full out.

Key is to break down the parts individually, and use thin layers and a good top coat, let it dry AND cure before assembling the parts. Then do any detailing. Use blue masking tape if you dont have the most steady hands.

No prob, also key to not handle anything during painting. I just slide it all on a spare brush stick, use the backpack holes on the torso armor to hold the armor, then touch that up last. Space it out and you can fit most parts on one brush. Thin paint, thin layers, dont over fill the detail lines. Try to get a good even coat and brush off excess, its less slapping paint on and more smoothing it out and brushing out the small groves. If that makes any sense.

Thanks, but its all in my opinion the paint. The vallejo mecha is just perfect out of the bottle. Needs a little drop of water mixed in from time to time, but works great with these minifigures.

There are some other really talented people that blow me away with detailing though. Im getting better at it but it does take some effort.

Here is did the main paint job, top coat, then filled the little cracks in with a bright blue. Swipe and wipe as I call it. Swipe the detailing in, wipe it with a damp rag. Dont put alot of pressure. Its like doing panel lining for gundam models. If its really thin you can just dab the brush in one spot and let it flow into the grove. Just dont move it until it dries. Again, some people can do some way better things with theirs though. Just takes some experience and getting over the its too difficult mindset.

It just doesn't look ruined enough, that's all. I'd pop the door off its hinges and have it leaning in the frame or tilted off at a crazy angle. Try to get ahold of more of those 1x2 bricks with the rounded edges, they make things feel more worn and old. Use a lot of those to construct partial walls, it really creates this crumbling sort of look. Also, mismatched colors can help suggest wear, rust, etc. Maybe some scattered 1x1 plates could also look like debris/shattered rock on the ground, and 1x4 plates can look like wooden boards lying around.

Hard to get a good picture with my current setup, but did an elite spec ops as well. Mixed a little purple into the black. Trying to go for the color the game uses but its a tough match. Again, some other people have done way more detailed versions.

Use a primer. Painting over a darker base figure to a lighter color calls for a primer. The silver mk5 I painted white (wyoming) worked ok, but really could have used a primer.

White is such a bitchy color to paint, why I quit gundam models. Definitely takes patience. Thin layers really help, plus waiting for a fully dried and cured layer. Can take a few coats and a few days to do right, and the humidity in the air can make it more difficult. Still, a primer for white is your best bet, and better quality paint will help too. White and red can be the hardest colors to paint well, so dont feel like all your attempts will end with the same results.

The designs aren't grabbing me, I don't care for this maroon and silver color scheme, and even the minifigs aren't particularly compelling. So my anti tank gun set came today, very disappointed that another fig is malformed. The soldiers head is very springy/rubbery it’s hard to describe but when you try to pose it looking down or up it springs back to looking forwards, pic related. Has anyone had a similar issue and knows a fix? I really don’t wanna wait another month for a new one, cheers.

Holy shit! What plastic is that? Dark green? That shouldn't happen. Maybe they cooled it off too fast.
Might as well buy the knockoffs, they are made from a more flexible plastic that doesn't stick together (less broken figs and tears).

Nta but this has happened to me a few times over the years, both CoD and Halo figs. Can't speak to the overall frequency but every now and then a head socket will just stick to the ball joint and if you force the issue too much you're going to have a bad time. Could be worse, I remember back when Halo blind bag Series 7 came out, pulled two of the yellow EOD Spartan and both had their left arm pegs break with concerning ease. Third time was the charm, but still.

Yeah, I find it easier to pop the head off when its stuck and wont turn. Usually frees it up. If you keep trying to turn it, itll snap. Like in

My HEBplus isn't quite that good, but pretty good. Missed the single card Predator again, but the IR vision two-pack was sitting in the box with the Raphs and Kratoses (Kratosae?), so I ended up with one anyhow.

Feels bad. This almost happened to my Nazi flamethrower guy. Twisting too much on any too-stiff ball joints will break off the neck, the stressed plastic needs a days rest to reharden. Its weird.
