Mattel insider here. Monster High collector line is a priority at Mattel, lots of horror movie characters coming. Universal Monsters license is also coming.

Is it a blueprint how not handle a underdog hit?
You can criticise the heavy sexualised bodies, but still they filled an niche like "i am so different" and "i feel like a monster in my body".
It was a hit with teenagers, especially alternative girls and all the tattoo-dyed hair-piercing girls.

Hope so. They tried to much to get younger girls.
In my opinion with the horses and mermaids they tried too much to appeal to younger girls, who like more playfeatures, but neglected the fashion too much, which was a factor for older kids.
But this sold mildly, maybe buyers where a little burned out with so many characters, dolls and the quality issues. So Mattel sansitied the line to get approval from soccermoms.

If so please no tacky fashion like dresses with characters print and dated silhouettes more contemporary fashion with a monster twist, detailed like real fabrics, separate pieces, zippers, mettal studs and stitching
For the faces more sassy screening with no wall eyes and makeup that makes sense and please no pixelated faces
If it's for collector and more expensive every accessories should be painted and should include a stand we don't care for brushes, the quality should be overall better than current mga playline if they cost more than 50 dollars

Tell me about it, if that outfit was on an LOL OMG the miniskirt would be denim with real stitching, the jacket would have stick-on silver buttons and little pocket flaps, and she’d have a tank top underneath it.
OMGs might look like thotted-up Betty Boops but at least their clothes aren’t all printed like this actual garbage.

YouTubers have been finding Monster High dolls at Ross for the past month, and I just found one today. They are being priced at $5.99 each.

Probably old stock from whatever retailer bought them, or stuff Mattel had left over like the Motu Classics that ended up at Big Lots.

You guys I literally can't contain my excitement, saw int he thread that MH dolls are at Ross and 20 min later I have a toralei! Also it was only $6?!
On the other hand Ross's is a fucking hell hole, kids everywhere messing shit up and I had to essentially dig through a pile of toys to find it. Nasty ass people with their masks on shitty and one dude in the store kept letting out nasty ass coughs. I though Burlington n coat factory was shitty, but Ross takes it further. Looks like it was the last one though.

Congrats, anon! I'm happy you found one. I found one yesterday, and since I know there's a little Monster High community in these threads I thought I'd share the news since I noticed nobody here was bringing it up. I found a toralei while thifting once. She had perfect hair, her shoes, and her outfit, but was missing an arm and her tail. I'm going to go to a second Ross in my area to see if I have any luck finding a different character tomorrow.

No problem, anon. I'm gland I could help. I haven't tried their cloths on other dolls yet but I've head that they fit normal Barbies pretty well. They also fit curvy barbie bodies, but the bottoms wont velcro on the back of the curvy bodies. They really are nice and colorful dolls in person, and a real treat. I finally caved and got the BMR ginger Ken. He’s got a really cute face sculpt but the outfit is weird and the translucent blue visor is pointless because it covers up too much of his face when it’s on. The fanny pack strap is so long it can be wrapped around the chest, which is good for versatility but looks awkward when it’s worn around the waist.

What do you guys think about #FailFix? I find their fashion boring, their gimmick boring and the surprise element is dumb (unless there is a hack). Their faces (eyes especially) on the other hand, look better than Rainbow High. There is something QPosket-esque about them.

They are probably going to fail miserably like Capsule Chix, but hopefully we get more dolls in the future.

I think the end result dolls are super cute, I love their expressions and the gloss they use for like the lips. I also like that one doll line has so many body types, gives good options for customizing too.
but the gimmick is dumb and honestly way too goofy. The look of the dolls before the very final end product reminds me of early 2000's weird blobby gross-out 3d animation for some reason. Also the clothing quality looks bad. I might get the j fash themed one because she looked pretty adorable however. I'm also dissapointed that they changed the final doll's faces so much groom the first released stock pics.

Also you might as well keep the gel in the hair an leave it in it's original neet wavy style. Once YouTube reviewers started brushing it out to "Fix It" the hair started looking like a puff ball of a mess. Unless you're a very good doll hair stylist the hair will look just as bad as a used thrift store dolls hair once you "Fix It".

That's awesome! I went to 6 Rosses today and I got this Venus! I was really hoping to find a Toralei but I think I was late to this party and so all the dolls were already cleaned out. I've watched her videos for a few years now. Shes ok, but she always involved in fights or drama with other users. I've noticed that she always says that people are jealous of her in her videos. The way she opens her dolls triggers me tho. She just rips things open, and even broke her 17" LE Ariel doll during her unboxing of it because she so rough with the dolls. Every time she finds a doll during one of her doll hunts she always spreads her legs or does some type of lewd/vulgar pose to let us know she found it, but then she gets annoyed when people accuse her of bragging.

She also uploaded a video a few months back were she had a nipple slip. It was a Winks Club season review. Her bf was at the top of the stair holding the camera filming her running up the stairs. She had some low cut white tank top on, and ran up the steps ultra hyper like a 5 year old which caused a lot of bouncing, and the slip. I guess she noticed because she randomly took the video down within 3 hours after of posting it, and it wasn't a live stream. After that she stopped wearing low cut tank tops and started covering up a little more.

A Thousand Splendid Dolls YouTube channel has some comfy videos. They are two sisters who lost their parents and are really attached to all of their dolls because they bring back childhood memories. They have great fix videos, and tips from fixing broken doll necks or arms, to making doll stand, and they even show you how to fix fraying doll dresses. They love buying used doll and fixing them up, and they show you how they clean, re-root, and fix their dolls up.

Her response video is only valuable to those who trust she is telling the unbias truth. She blew the response out of proportion. I was there, I watched the whole thing from start to finish. And I would have not taken so much of an issue with her, were it not for:

She couldn't handle the sudden influx of attention from non-children saying "Here's why what you did was bad, we hope you can do better next time since you're such an influential person".

Also, I take issue with someone sharing "their side of the story" without showing evidence of the claims they're making. Sure, it's easy to say people are attacking you when you take down the video that has evidence of that fact.
That's what proves to me she is immature and unable to handle the actual good faith criticism.

But, as someone who has been dealing with my depression for.. geez over 10 years, I feel like that's all the more reason she should have taken the time to evaluate it properly.
I can't help but wonder if she spoke to her support network about the situation, coz mine really helps me put things into perspective when I'm taking things the wrong way. Maybe they coulda calmed her down, told her it wasn't as bad as her mind was telling her it was.

Technically, yes, they both chop vegetables, but one is obviously very different to the other, and having knowledge about knives doesn't nevessarily mean she knows what she's talking about with food processors.
Same for fashion/playline dolls and BJD's. They're both dolls but they aren't the same thing.
That's the kind of dishonesty I find disappointing, and why her asertion of "I need to get videos out" irritates me, and its not just her but all YTers. Getting vids out to maintain their CPM is more important than being informed about the thing they're talking about.

Doll owners, and even Youtubers use scripts to find out when someone on the internet uses their name or the name of one of their products so they can take videos down for "slander" or "copyright" reasons. There is no other explanation or way her video would have gotten hundreds of hate comments within minutes of her posting it. Everyone knows that the BJD community is toxic, and elitist, but the speed that they moved in on her video was staggering.

That's not always how it works tho. Hasbro, Mattel and other toy companies send or ask to send creators dolls, and toys for free, but it's up to the creatorto decide if they want to actually make a video on it or if they want to give the item a positive review. I know many YouTube creators who get a truck load of free goodies sent to them for free that they never get around to actually reviewing. If they don't review it or if they give the toy a negative review all the toys companies can do is not send them more stuff in the future.

Anon who first reported the Ross MH finds here. Keep in mind that it's very hit or miss. Back when all the YouTubers were finding MH dolls at Ross (the beginning of August) I went to Ross and found nothing. Two weeks later I went back to the same Ross store and they finally got a delivery. Went to the second Ross store in my area a few days later and found nothing. It seems to be something you have to keep checking in on every week or so, and just pray that their aren't other MH collectors or scalpers in your area. Best of luck to you both.

It's not even the toy companies' faults, they're trying to accommodate the people who want those dolls but the truth is doll collecting mainly comes down from Asian cultures and European cultures, with a little bit of Latino cultures too. All of which mainly want dolls that fit into those cultures. Anons here who like ebony dolls have also made me aware of just how picky they are too, which really just makes designing an appealing doll even more challenging for toy companies.

I completely get this, especially for making customs. I think most tend to default to Busy BB for making custom OMGs. I don't usually style my OMG's hair but I did put Shadow's hair up in twintails and I like her better that way.

I really want OMGs to thrive, I love the articulation and styles.

The art is officially licensed by Sanrio so you know there's going to be legal stuff going on behind the scenes. MissKika herself has said Sanrio is pursuing this legally. I think what disappoints me the most about FailFix is that the actual product doesn't look like the really cute mock-ups we got at first, pic related. I might be in the minority, but I think the in-set eyes on them really bring the whole thing down. It would have been cuter if they just screen-printed something like what's in my picture for the face. Or at least tried to make the faces look more like the mock-ups. It also sucks that even after working to fix it, the hair still leaves much to be desired. I was looking forward to these, too.

I had no clue who they were, but was able to ID them pretty quickly when I got them home. I guess some kid grew up and donated them. They didn't play with them at all because their purses and accessories were still factory rubber band onto their arms. Probably some spoiled rich kid who was gifted too many MH dolls for their birthday, played with them once and throw them in a doll box to rot.

Aww, bummer. I'm sorry you missed out on Deuce. Same thing happened to me this week. Went to the thrift store a little late and when I got there some lady had filled a whole empty baby stroller with awesome Barbie dolls from the early 90s which don't show up very often, most of which I've wanted for years. I could have kicked myself for not getting there a few minutes earlier.

You're also very lucky that your Goodwill prints out price stickers for their items instead of manually writing them on with a black sharpie pen. You have no idea how many nice finds I have in my collection that are ruined thanks to sharpie pens. If they write it on a hard plastic surface of the dolls body I can usually get it out with alcohol or a very little acetone which may discolor the area a little, but it's better than black writing on your doll.

Magic eraser sponges which are usually recommended by doll colletors to get Goodwill sharpie stains out do nothing. I even bought the name brand Mister Clean Magic sponge just to make sure I was getting the best kind, and it did nothing to get the marks out

If they write the price onto a rubber area of the doll like the rubber head or rubber legs it will absorb the inc like a sponge, and you'll never be able to get it off. Some Youtuber said that leaving it out in the sun works but Yeah, were I live I cant leave dolls outside.

All I know is that I bought a few MH doll in 2011. Even though they weren't really my thing at the time they were really nice looking quality dolls that came with stands.
I kept all the store receipts in the boxes, and remember that the first wave of MH dolls that came with pets would fluctuate from $16.99 to $19.99 at Walmart. Almost like Mattel or Walmart weren't sure what their price point should be, and they were testing the waters.

I spotted about two or three Nefara dolls which I thought were Cleo at my local Target, and thought she was too pretty to ignore so I got one. I'm glad I have her, but now I guess I have to keep an eye open for a Cleo doll.
