What's /toys/ opinion on Marvel Legends?
Are they worth getting into?
If I am already collecting should I stop?
Or are they amazing figures if you get the right one?

There evidently isn't one opinion. With character selection and berth of characters it's real quality. That said, I was a long time collector of the line, but every time I get a new one I tend not to be really happy with my purchase. The figures just don't feel as interesting to me as they used to. I still grab the occasional one of favourite characters, but I personally don't feel a desire to collect the line anymore. It just feels like a lot of repaints, and getting a new figure just feels like the last 4 I've bought. If you're genuinely asking those questions in the OP just go with what you're feeling, if they look good to you grab some and give the line a go. It might also not help my own interest in the line that I've lost a bit of interest in most things Marvel (comics and movies).

For me I find lines like marvel legends scary do to how many figures they put out its easy to go from collector to hoarder. Personally I would rather avoid lines like marvel legends and instead use the money on something higher quality like mafex that doesn't pump out nearly as many characters. You end up appreciating your purchases far more and will probably be spending the same amount overall if not less with the bonus of not having messy hoarder shelves.

Don't bother unless a ML has butterfly shoulders or the new ball-joint torsos.

Loved ML. Yes, repaints and laziness are disappointing, but they do have some excellent figures from time to time. Less is definitely more, so if you buy only the best and most unique ones, you'll have a very satisfying shelf.

Unfortunately for me, I let the superhero fatigue from movies and the general consumer culture tank my enjoyment of the figures and the comics they originally came from.
I've held onto a couple Legends that are dear to me and particularly well-done, but the massive, cringe-ass fanbase has ruined everything else. I hate the over-exposed, over-saturated, uncritical geek-sumer culture that exists today and I reached a point where I couldn't look at my shelf without feeling like I had contributed to it, even though I got into the line with a sincere childhood appreciation for the specific characters I was buying.

If they do a Raimi Spider-Man wave, I'll jump on that. Good designs for the most part, plus zoomers don't give a fuck about the OG Spidey trilogy and thus can't ruin it for me.

ML are a good introduction but theres better lines even in the 20$ range. If you only like marvel and don't like dc, turtles, fortnite, power rangers, gi joe, ghostbusters, pokemon, mario or overwatch its ok.

I would hazard you getting into marvel legends unless you were in love with everything marvel does. Otherwise buy lightning collection and be a sentai fan, or get gi joe.

marvel legends are heppy meal tier toys that sell for a premium, most of us get them because nobody else will make x character, or to fill out an otherwise expensive or incomplete roster not filled by mezco, revoltech, mafex, or SHF.

That being said, there are some figures coming out now that are far and away better than current marvel legends, and I would say they're absolutely worth the price, however the change in engineering won't be seen for I think another year?

tl;dr only get whoever you think wont get a figure or if you absolutely need him.

Literal bottom of the barrel when it comes to supposedly collector grade figures. Gummy joints, laughable quality control, the same mold reused with minimal changes over and over again, outdated engineering, way too expensive for what you get out of them, etc.

If you want a figure of, idunno, fucking Eel, Marvel Legends is your only option short of a custom but why would anyone bother going that far for Eel.

They are slowly improving from what I've seen, but they are also getting more expensive and I don't think they are improving enough to justify it. If you weren't buying them before you should only buy them for the really obscure characters that real toylines won't touch.

It's really hard to take people like this seriously, when so many other lines exist that are worse off.

Either they're trolls, fanboys trolling, or retarded trolls, but they seem to make up the hyperbole haters who constantly toss shit around /toy/.

MLs are basically the average toyline. It's everything a toyline should be, but it isn't the best at most things. Despite having some of the most talented sculptors in the industry, the fact that reuse is so common brings them down a notch.

Personally with ML I've just decided to cherry pick either the same character or him and a small "cast" surrounding one because it can easily multiply if you're not careful with your choices. In my case I've tried to limit my buying to Daredevil characters, and even then I'd only pick the essentials.

They're kinda bad. Gummy plastic and antiquated articulation schemes- notably straight cut swivels at thighs and waists that look garbage at any position other than static. For some characters they're your only option, but if there's a better version from another company available go with that instead.

When it comes to collecting MLs. I'd say take it slow and only get what you truly care about.
I never saw the purpose of undying brand loyalty, nor am I a joyless eunuch that can't find value in superhero media. Just be honest with yourself and ask why you want to buy said marvel legend every time. For me the process goes

>I want figure representation of this character
>What are the options?
>Mafex, Mezco, Figuarts, Marvel Legends
>Do I like the design of the more expensive figures?
>How much do I really care about the character?
>Will it be long-term interest or is it just FOTM?
>Will the ML cut it if I just added some extra stuff to it?
>If I can do an easy mod to the ML will it turn into exactly what I am looking for?

For me, if it stays too far from this li e of thinking, its probably going to be a ML or nothing.
Don't get wrapped up in the hyperbole of loyalists and haters of a specific line. At the end of the day it's just toys. Quality is subjective

Marvel Legends based on pre-2000s comic stuff that isn't top is the opposite of soulless if anything,they're based on relatively forgotten comics drawn by hand and created by small creative teams working out of a relatively small publisher, not limited by big corporate committees or focus groups. It is the best line. I own almost every figure I love the uniformity of it. Sure, they cheaped out on a lot and they weren't SUPER articulated but the sculpting and character selection has not and never will be beat. Nowadays it's either justice league or batman villains.

The articulation was a bummer, especially when they started stripping out joints (does anyone else remember how the early ones had ankle rockers?). The hips were very ugly too, and the sculpt on the main bucks was somehow so stiff that it made action poses look stiff too.

That said, they still managed to produce some of my favorite figures ever (I will never ever sell my Lobo or Ultra Humanite or Chemo). The BAFs often went hard and had some great sculptwork. I think with someone else managing the engineering, this could have been a GOAT line.

My biggest gripe is that, for the price, the figures can be fragile as fuck. I've have several figs limbs snap off because the limbs couldn't bend - something was malformed or a joint wasn't cut properly. I've had near breaks with other limbs where a limb would start moving when trying to pose but partially through the motion it would begin resisting, and the joint/hinge/peg started turning white from stress. (Happens way too often with ankle joints).

You basically have to heat the figure with a blow dryer or hot water to make the plastic soft and then pry open the hinges, remoe the joints and then reshape them. Could require cutting excess plastic off or reshaping something that was malformed. Again, for the price these figures go for, it's ludicrous. The quality just isn't always there as it should be (and could be). Some figs from the 90's had better construction. Even McFarlane toys were sturdier and had more stylized proportions while a lot of these figs have heads that are 10% too big and suffer from skinny body molds that are recycled like crazy.

That's not to say some of them aren't cool, but it can be very hit and miss. The process for reimbursement is a royal pain in the ass, too.

MLs are durable as fuck for the most part. I've tossed them to my nephews to fuck with and they came out fine. I used to keep mine just carelessly tossed in a box all jumbled up. I even dropped one off my balcony once and it was fine, just a little dinged up.

Personally I like the line for what it is, entry level collecting. Problem is the cheaper price and breadth of characters brings out hoarder mentality. I think if you use the line to fill in gaps of heroes you like that do not have a premium release it’s great. For example I have a legends cosmic ghost rider in my cosmic/mystic display next to a mezco moon knight and Blade.

Most of the problems really start when you're the type of collector that buys every wave that comes out and quickly rack up hundreds of them. Aside from the sheer volume of them piling up everywhere, you start to see accessory and body and even face reuse all over the place. That and unless you're a super fan that legitimately likes everything, you wind up with teams and costumes you don't really care for but bought for the sake of completism, a BAF, or fear of never getting the versions you really do like.

I know exactly what you're talking about, and to this day I'm still trying to figure out how exactly they managed to pull it off. DCUC figures, outside of a rare few, just did not look right in action poses.

I get that this figure is mediocre in a lot of ways, but man something about it just feels "iconic", in the same way a statue might be. Yeah its stiff but something about it embodies the character, where as a lot of Marvel Legends end up feeling like the character just slapped onto the buck. The headsculpts really elevate them a lot.
