They probably will, since most of the characters people want don’t need to be in a wave to sell. Jean, Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, etc. Hopefully the wave sells though, I haven’t lost hope for AoA wave 2 and I need X-Men to keep chugging along until I get it.

Are any of the others good? I've given them a try and I hate the new setting. Krakoa is so unbelievably boring to me, Xavier is an idiot with a stupid helmet, the shared rooms stuff is ludicrous, and on and on. I can't be the only one that disliked everything I read about this new status quo. It feels so unbelievably not X-Men, I think.

Everything g about Krakoa is so antithetical to what X-Men is. It's an indictment of coexistence and is pro-isolationist.
And its biggest sin is, you hit it on the head here, boring in addition to being so thoroughly not X-Men. The politicking, the power plays, the "weird different society" all feels like something out of a low grade mid-2000s ya novel.
And fuck everyone qho says "Well it only makes sense that the X-Men would tell humanity to fuck off" because they don't understand shit about the deeper themes.

The X-titles are varying degrees of boring to awful. None of it "feels" like X-Men though, if that makes any sense. The villains and heroes just hanging out is beyond ridiculous. Archangel teaming up with Apocalypse is eye-rolling but Morlocks sharing an island with the very mutants that murdered them in cold blood?

The biggest joke is that they establish (repeatedly) that death means nothing at all because they can just clone themselves... then they keep trying to use the threat of death to raise the tension of the book. The teased that Kitty was an aberration and couldn't be reborn for a handful of issues then... they cloned her. Storm was desperate to cure herself of some death disease or whatever and it was extra important that she avoid resurrection because "she didn't want to."

Shit. There went my theory that all the X-characters except Kitty were just Krakoa clones and the real ones were imprisoned deep under the island with Sabretooth, and we were waiting for the real X-men to show up and do something about this unsettling not real X-Men cult.

Pretty much, I haven't kept up with the exact body count but the opening storyline has Cyclops, Angel, Wolverine, Nightcrawler and others die in a satellite that falls into the sun.

Then it establishes that all the mutants are cloned in pods on the island. There's a handful of mutants involved in cultivating the eggs/pods and Xavier has supposedly almost every mutant's "essence" stored in cerebro. It's like a factory; when cerebro senses the death of a mutant it starts a pod person. Somehow Xavier has stored mutants that had been dead since the 80's and earlier, so literally everyone is back.

This is not only completely stupid but also manages to make death even more meaningless than it had ever been... pretty impressive given the toothless nature of death in comics. Despite this firmly established new paradigm the writers are still trying to tease death as a threat. "Maybe Kitty can't resurrect...oh she can," "maybe Apocalypse can't revive... stay tuned!"

There's even a sort of running gag where one formerly evil mutant (still a but of an ass) constantly dies and has to be brought back. Like South Park's Kenny.

It was applicable to half of that list, though. Remember, they initially did not plan for a "new" Steve Rogers to come back. And you were supposed to want Riri, not Tony. It doesn't apply directly to Spider-Man either. Spider-Man is just because one writer has way too much power over that corner of Marvel and he seems to dislike the core concept of Spidey.

People like you do this all the time, “Marvel’s too PC now, they’re trying to replace your heroes PERMANENTLY with POC!” Newsflash Einstein, replacing the hero temporarily isn’t a new idea, and it’s NEVER permanent. The only new thing about it is instead of Bucky Cap, you got Captain Falcon. Instead of James Rhodes Iron Man, you got Riri Williams. It’s an easy method to introduce new characters that coast off an existing character’s popularity. That’s why there’s so many spider people. Not a single popular hero has been killed off permanently, so I don’t know why there’s so much goddamned pearl clutching about it all the time.

It's got nothing to do with PC. Bucky Cap sucked too. Yes. I could have worded my initial statement differently to not allude to the races and genders of the attempted replacements, but it doesn't make it any less true that they've been trying to sabotage classic characters to make ALL NEW ALL DIFFERENT replacements a thing for about a decade. And it's also painfully obvious that while they didn't stick with readers, the writers clearly didn't want to go back to the old characters.
This is what happens when you try to meld artistic vision with corporate greed. Lord knows I'd respect them more for sticking with the changes/replacements. At least for longer than a couple years.

Captain Falcon wouldn't bother me if he dropped the wings. As it stands, with the wings AND shield, he's kinda got a "hat on a hat" thing going on.
Bucky Cap doesn't really bother me, I just never liked his costume and he wasn't around long enough to really make an impact. I'm sure if he had a tenure like Rhodey's I'd dig him more.

Replacing Thor however made little sense. It's not a uniform or a title, it's Thor Odinson. I origibally didn't like it in when Don Blake pretended to be Thor but at least the plot was revolving around the fact that he was forced to hide that he wasn't Thor. Not to mention that it was shown repeatedly that he was not as capable as Thor. It was interesting to see a mortal man trying to live up to a God and working around his limitations. The recent story was the complete antithesis of that, as in here's this mortal woman who is so much better than Thor that she basically bitchslaps Odin and inspires devotion from other gods unrivaled by any other.

If I had to guess the House of X wave would round out Magneto, Xavier and Moira with a few essentials, namely:

Jean (in current Marvel Girl attire): she’s a pretty important character for the team currently and we have nothing close to the current costume from Hasbro.

Teen Cable: a fan favorite character ...sorta. The current teenage incarnation of Cable has his own solo comic and is a fairly common sense addition to the team from a figure perspective.

Exodus: the only council member that has ZERO representation in the Legends line. It’s now or never and he’s an underrated character with a cool design.

As for BAF... just being realistic here; either a quick repair of the AoA Apocalypse buck for his “A” incarnation or a quick repurpose of the Kingpin buck for suited Apocalypse.

I think they've gotten smarter/lazier in how and who they pick for a lot of their BAFs. They've been shown that they can sell BAF sized characters as stand alone figures, so I don't think we'll see this incarnation of Apocalypse as the wave's big boy. I'm half hopeful they'll do something like Krakoa, or maybe even give us Glob.

I'd hope they'd get inventive. Something with a base, like their head, then having multiple pieces that could expand out like the Stiltman leg pieces. Like lots of vines/tentacles, root pieces, maybe something with a portal. I don't know. I think there is a lot of potential for Krakoa.

I think your a bit off the mark, Krakoa just isn’t suited for a BAF. His face alone would be 4 or 5 sizable pieces...trying to put together a whole base and tendrils and whatnot...just not seeing it happen. Krakoa is more akin to a playset than a figure.

Plus, the entire thing would require new tooling and a ton of investment on Hasbro’s part.

Maybe a Haslab project but never a BAF, even then I think the next few Haslabs will follow the Sentinel format of giant figures before we see something like a playset.

One of my favorite z-listers, and surely one of the oldest Spidey villains to have almost no name recognition or fame. He's a pure silver age throwback with his origin: meteorite gas giving him strength, speed and durability on par with Captain America to his wonderful campy weapons like his hot air balloon backpack and Sparkle Gun!

This Ditko creation has been popping up randomly since 1966 and... well... not achieving much but he grew giant size once!

When I was a little kid I would get obsessed with a new toyline seemingly every year. When I found a new toyline that I HAD to have I would sell my existing collection to friends for basically a couple bucks. Whatever they had as an allowance when you're under 10.

Looking back it's almost painful to think about practically giving away G.I.Joes, MOTU, TMNT, X-Men, Spawn, etc. Piles of figures gone.

I can't imagine a Sinister Six boxset would be a big seller. Every figure in the proposed set has been released within the last 2 years, multiple versions for some. The set would just be a straight re-pack of easily obtainable figures. Any fan of Spider-Villains that's been collecting Legends for at least the six months would be forced to buy multiples. Bit frustrating.

The difficult to obtain figure right now is I guess Sandman... maybe Doc Ock? I haven't kept up on his aftermarket pricing.

...but don't mind me, I just want new characters or at the very least versions of characters we haven't seen before. Tired of repeats.

I get you there. Honestly I'm posting from a perspective of currently buying all those Spidey villains at slightly marked up prices (which is in favor of your point that they are relatively easy to obtain).

Even Doc Ock seems to live around $35 or so MIB.

Sandman though could use a figure.

Also weirdly enough, the regular Hobgoblin figure is crazy expensive. No idea what happened there.

Electro: same as the Retro Spidey version but with some new electricity energy effect parts

Sandman-reissue of the BAF

Mysterio: Existing figure but with a new unmasked head

Doctor Octopus: Entirely new version using the white suit version of the character

Hobgoblin: Macendale demon head version

Vulture: regular version

An evergreen box set of Spidey villains would be a god-send for people who missed them at retail and keep prices down

I'm looking at Wendigo, Demo Goblin and Sauron for 60, 50 and 85 respectively and on one hand they cost less than buying the wave itself (with no headache of selling the unwanted figures) but in the case of Demogoblin who is small comapred to the other two it seems a bit much since standard MLs seem to go around 20 - 30.

Only reason to go part by part is if certain parts are SUPER cheap or if you want the actual figures that come with the parts. If you're just interested in the BaF the $60-$80 price most go for really isn't terrible. You'll be paying more usually if you part it out.

It used to be worth it to hunt some of the BAF parts piece by piece, which was especially helpful when you had no interest in some of the characters in a wave. You could buy 3 or 4 figures that you wanted and then hunt down the 2 or 3 BAF parts for a few bucks.

I have no idea when it happened or why but the eBay sellers have completely priced themselves out of viability. There are brand new figures available on Amazon right now for MSRP $19.99 (free shipping), while the loose parts are being auctioned on eBay for $16 + $5 shipping + tax. At that point; even if I hate the character I’ll still buy the unopened full figure + BAF over the loose BAF part. The figure becomes essentially $1, so why not?

The articulation is quite literally identical minus the butterfly joints. It also appears to have less restricted hips, so I'm betting it'll be able to kick further up than the Legends, and also not have to kick outwards to go up.

Macendale’s version is fine if you’re not picky but how many toy collectors are not picky to at least some degree? How many of us have multiple Iron Men or Captain America or Cyclops or Spider-Man because we want specific versions? Specific hairdos, costumes, armor, etc.

As someone who's read ASM 238-400, there absolutely is a huge (to us nerds) different between Kinglsey and Macadale. I'd like a modern take on the classic Hobgoblin (ie Toybiz-style glider, no tattered cape/boots/gloves, OG JRSr/Jr head). Hobgoblin was after all THE Spidey villain from his FA in 238 until Venom in 300.

We very well might be... Hobgoblin is still my favorite Spider-Villain, maybe even top 3 comic villain of all time for me. ASM 238 was among the earliest comic books my Dad picked up for me when I was a little kid. I could barely read, being only 5 or 6 maybe, but the issue made an impression and the mystery was the first ongoing storyline that I paid attention too.

Macendale never did it for and the lame attempts to make him look more spooky with the tattered rags and demonic face (eventually going full demon of course) brought nothing to the character.

I mean you can say you want a classic hobgoblin all you want, I’d agree with that. But this hobgoblin figure from Hasbro is just a modern version, same as Green Goblin. It’s not necessarily Macendale, who died in the 90’s. I think the demogoblin head makes a good argument that it is, but Kingsley wears the same outfit in Slott’s comics, where the face isn’t as orange anymore just like the figure. I think there’s an argument to be made that this Hobgoblin, and the Sandman wave Green Goblin, are based on the Camuncolli art, making it not Macendale, but Kingsley. Just my two cents.

That is the Gwen Stacy torso, design for a lithe 21 year old and made even smaller so the Gwen figure doesn't look bulky in her coat. I've always seen MJ as being a lot more developed.

If you don't have the actual MJ figure from that 2 pack, you could use the Jessica Jones, and swap out the arms with a different figure. I just used upper arms coat and lower legs from the Vol. 2 Gamora. Turned out pretty good. I've seen another anon use I think the coat and upper arms from one of the MCU Captain Marvel figures and that looked pretty good.

Don't get me wrong the 2099 mold is still one of Hasbro's best molds it's just a bit underwhelming to see it used for a Spider-Man again right after a mold that improves upon it is introduced.

I imagine that the new retro mold is more expensive to produce since it has more parts that go into the torso articulation, and thus a wave is necessary to balance out the cost for the first usage. I also assume Hasbro didn’t want to pay any extra money more than the tooling necessary for the robot arm on this guy, especially considering he’s not as popular as, say, Ben Reilly or the symbiote suit, which we’ll probably see on the new body soon enough. I agree that they should just use the best body going forward, but we’ve unfortunately seen this before with stuff like House of M Spidey being on the pizza mold despite having the 2099 mold available. But it also meant we got Kaine on the 2099 mold, so I’d rather the mold be used for the popular outfits if it has to be limited. Idk it’s all conjecture.

It's hard to find a series I can put my heart into. Amazing Yamaguchi has great articulation but look kind of weird as a result, Mafex looks great but are limited with characters, Marvel Legends has the most going for it, but the quality is really not doing it for me with most of them. It's hard to find something I'm really happy with. I wish I wasn't so autistic about quality and accuracy.

Man, bros. I'm really liking this new Carnage a lot. I held out on getting any of the imports because I never really gravitated to the 90s style face for Carnage.

When this legends came out I scooped him up asap and after painting over the Knull symbol, I'm really happy with what I got.

Compared to the older carnage, the newer one is league's better. It doesn't have the accessories the old one has, but with a bit of repainting, it does now.

1/12 scale right? I'm looking into this as well. I have experience with the Tamashii Stage 4 stands. They are good but they can't handle anything too bulky like most BAFs in an air pose. Definitely. I used them for my Marvel Legends a while back, and I'm buying a couple more for the ones I have now. Check out this vid for some more info, and to see them used for figures. There's also another stand featured which is the Stage 5 designed for mech figures. From looking at it, it looks like it's better at handling heavier figures.

OK this is something that's been a blindspot for me in the past because I honestly don't have a good eye for either accurate or artful body proportions. Do you have a picture of Venom with proportions that would be better either in comic or figure form? Not to put you on the spot since this is just an image board but I'm eager to learn.

I don’t know about reference images per say but this mold is used for more than just Venom and it’s got some issues. The ankles are the sore spot to me. He has huge fucking calves and thighs, but tiny feet. The measure from the front of his chest to the back of his back is insane, especially compared to the front of his stomach to his back. The trapezius (the part where his shoulders meet his neck) are massive as well, giving him sort of a bobble head thing going on.

Honestly I think most people just want him on the Omega Red body. It’s proportioned much better, it’s a little larger so he doesn’t look like a puffy body builder, more like a regular muscle man, and it has butterfly joints too.
