What an awesome set. I hope that Enchanted Island or another of the classic Islanders sets gets the Pirates of Barracuda Bay. But I'd imagine the Imperial Fortress would be next in line, if they went that way.

99.5% certain I've made the most sturdy minifig-scale AT-RT build; most builds I've seen are either too big or have really poor connections (1 stud, for example)

I took some techniques from different builds and eventually got to my own design that is nearly flawless - just going to see if Mixel joints are better for the legs once my BL order arrives.

this is a good exmaple of why lego space bases where often subpar . i order ot make a decent base you need to use a lot of parts to get decent roofs and walls and structure but because they want it to sell to kids as a plaything tehy invest the already limited part budget in ships and vehicles leaving not enough parts to make a good base. good for play good for sales good for kids but crap not complete minmialist bases., this set is estenntaly a ship with a base.

No need to get pissy, anon. Hes entitled to an opinion. And desu, I understand the purist mindset if thats why he doesnt like it. Im primarily purist, but I dont see harm in removing prints. And Im okay with third party stuff as long as it was intentiinally designed to mimic lego. Like brickforges cows. Mixing megabloks and the like is still forbidden in my household though.

I went to the lego store yesterday and i got general sweet mayhems disco pod

I really like these minifigure pods because its portable and it keeps your minifigure safe, while also having elements in it like the speaker or the removable flyer for general mayhem

Which provide ample opportunities to make new variations that also look good with just the parts provided or with a smaller kit or two, and have those sort of elegantly stylized minifigures that adorably hint at a character without looking like cartoon villains of something. Modern lego sets feel like they're trying too hard sometimes.

It's got a number of unique printed pieces (or maybe they're stickers, I don't know), so getting an exact copy by ordering all the bricks would be extremely difficult, if not outright impossible. If you don't care about that, it might be feasible to buy all the bricks needed to build it it, but with over 2000 parts to deal with, that would be immeasurably difficult, and with how many sellers you'd have to buy from to get them all, the shipping might just make the whole project as pricey as just buying the set.

i agree. i think lego realized people were doing math of the price versus piece count and someone at lego said. throw in a bunch of small as pieces so the math make people think they are getting a deal. over time it started to affect the overall aesthetic.

im glad LEGO don't listen to people like you
even as a kid i disliked the simplicity of lego and quickly forgot it as some child's toy when i grew up.
I got back to LEGO only in the 10s when more complicated sets with many tiny unique details appeared.
Older sets are more than outdated.
as a kid i dreamed about having Knights Castle , now i have money to get it but i wont because its lacking the details and i dont have enough room to store it for the sake of nostalgia

Love your collection. I got the Saturn V myself when it came out. My father visited, and he was so impressed with how they did it that he got one himself (he always loved the Saturn). I gotta get that lander before they disappear.

On another note, anyone else find themselves lucky? I managed to snag one at normal pricing on Amazon before the pre-orders filled up. I know it's just a small-scale display piece, but I've always loved the Nebulon! Glad I saw a post on a Lego page I like in time to check. And it being daylight where I live while the US slept at the time helped my chances.

If it was any other color than sand green, then it wouldn't be that hard, considering. But all of the sand colors are more expensive than regular colors, and it being used in one of the better old Modulars also keeps jacking up the prices.

Got an ethical dilemma for everyone. I've got a part I need for a moc, and while I have it in the right color, the only ones I have are from an old set with old stickers on them.

What set should I buy to start from scratch, anons? I really enjoyed Castle and Pirates as a kid and I'd like to build in one of those genres again, but it doesn't seem like there's much available for either of those right now ott that awesome but massive Ideas pirate set, and the creator stuff is all too colorful.

I'm thinking of buying a minecraft kit or that big Other Side castle on black friday sale to at least get a bunch of grey bricks in front of me. Is there a better option to start rebuilding my collection of bricks?

I’d say modulars but Lego’s been really dropping the ball on them the last couple years (last one I bought was the Diner one which is amazing).

Order a new piece, use the sitckered one temporarily instead of the grey if you want just don't fuck with it. If the sticker wasn't in such good condition I'd say sure go ahead and remove it, I'd do the same. It's a little off center but otherwise in great condition so don't.

Minecraft isn't a bad way to go depending on what sets are available. They can be a great way to get a more narrow palette of basic bricks and plate - caves and mountain type stuff is obviously great for grey of castles or blocky militaristic ships. Or just filler for solid thick sturdy structures.

Assuming you're in the US also look in Costco/Walmart, maybe some other stores for these 1500 piece brick sets LEGO puts out for the holidays. It's just a bunch of cheap pieces in all sorts of colors and is a great supplement to your MOC arsenal if you prefer off the shelf products.

Lastly I haven't picked it up but new pirates stuff seems to have been received well. There's also rumblings of some honest to goodness proper castle sets to be released soon - this one I heard from a LEGO store employee so I'm more willing to believe. He did give me a super early headsup on the pirates and Hidden Side Manor/Castle thing.

Fucking hell, I wish Ninjago didn't have to be fucking everything. It's like gray goo that assimilates everything that could be its own theme. It also makes Ninjago boring to me because it just ends up being this random mix of elements instead of, for example, a cool ninja/feudal Japan or tokusatsu/sentai-style theme.

This is a series of 4 compact, inexpensive, collectible sets. Kids will get one as a present for Christmas and they'll demand to get the other 3 to complete the series.

I want this to be true, but I am too old to have much hope. I've known Lego store employees that get the same fake news from youtube as everyone else who has seen a 'leak'. I'm actually kinda optimistic about the fact that he did give you early tips. Not that those weren't leaked or whatever.

Well this is about 80% of my backlog/un-opened sets.
I have probably at least half that again, that's opened and either on display or in some sort of storage. Among the opened stuff is the 2nd Falcon, Slave 1 and Tantive IV UCS'. I also have a bunch of modulars (2 Pet Stores, the Parisian Restaurant, the Detectives Office, the Palace Cinema, the Brick Bank and the Dinner) as well as Ninjago City (which I bought at an inflated aftermarket price), Ninjago City Docks and the Destiny's Bounty. Also the Farris Wheel. I've also bought a shit-ton of CMFs, a lot of which went into my part collection.
And to cap that all off, I'm Australian so I'm paying ass rapey prices.

I may or may not have a problem...

Not him, but i imagine he's a collector of the boxes too. So it would be pretty uneven weight distribution and you'd have a lot of bent boxes.
It's how i usually organize my unbuilt Gunpla models, because some of the boxes have really good art.

Or it could be autism and he likes organizing them like that because it would really rustle his jimmies any other way.

While I do "collect" the boxes (ie: I'm a filthy hoarder who can't bring myself to throw them out), I don't really have an issue with stacking them on top of each other. This is only temporary, until I can find a better storage option and honestly it kinda took me by surprise just how much Lego I owned when I laid it out like this.

I'm pretty partial to this one - although I don't have all the space bases yet so I can't say I've experienced them all.
Blacktron's main base just does it for me, it's such a nicely put together thing, elevated, crater baseplates, small rover, ship, and the base can change geometry to some extent.

If we're talking about castle then it has to be 6081 - King's mountain fortress.

Always wanted this as a kid, but never got it because it was so damn expensive. Still don't have it, but one day, I swear, one day. Got the 5978 The Secret of the Sphinx as a kid, though, and it's fucking rad, man. Literally helped to rekindle my love for LEGO a few years ago. Great set. A real shame it was just collecting dust for almost two decades until I pieced it back again.

Rebuilt the original LEGO Slave I a few days ago and it was the most fun I've had in a long while. Takes me back to a different time, when things were less complicated and more fun overall.

I like it, but I probably wouldn't buy it. The text looks awful, but the countries look fine for the scale. It reminds me of that big globe Lego made where children put their creations on the globe itself. It's strictly an older-audience set which I am fine with. Better than some topical Among Us set which will come out a year after the game's popularity.

15032$ CAD in new sets with a MSRP of 21600$. 5781$ in used set, bulk lots and bricklink. Over the same period, I sold back for 4991$ for a net amount of 15822$. That's about 300000 pieces. I make large mocs, but I have so much loose parts that I sometimes resell unopened boxes I no longer think I will need. I have a target budget of ~20$ a week now.

I tried to avoid too recent of parts. Mostly just added a few detail parts, like studs, and replacing the front wheels because I lost one of the originals. Might go to BrickLink to find a replacement.

I've considered rebuilding the celestial stinger and modifying it to having a closed cockpit. I'm sure I could improve that one with some more modern bits. Though I will need to find that light and sound part because apparently I lost the one I had.

Pretty lame line up, to be honest.
The mechs are "been there done that" with the Miles one looking like the worst in terms of value for your money since it's thinner than the Spiderman one and doesn't have the legs on its back with the only saving grace being the recolored web pieces.
The rest isn't even worth mentioning besides Ghost Rider and the Mysterio fig.

I like having fighter squadrons and I like to keep the numbers somewhat balanced between the alliance and the empire. I found a lot of the parts for the X-wings in my collection, so it wasn't all that bad. Although, I did spend a ton of time searching. I always do that when I buy parts for models.

Thank you! I made it during a little kick of making Bi-pedal things. He's a better pic, you can see how the legs connect, which might(?) be an illegal connection. I'm not too sure.

Incidentally, I'm the same Anon who did the Halloween space spider thing, and in the background you can see what I was going to do for this year's Halloween /toy/ project, but a lot of stuff happened and everything kinda went to shit.

(Annoying, because I'd been doing a lot of terrain work for it, too)

It's legal to put a single stud into a technic hole, but it's not legal to put more than one stud into adjacent technic holes.

For example, it would be illegal to put the studs of a 1x2 plate into the holes of a single Technic piece. This is because Technic holes are slightly more narrow than System antistuds, so it creates an unacceptable amount of stress on the parts.

I was building it with two purposes in mind, honestly. It started off life as a way to display my '08 AT-ST, then I rebuilt it, expanded it and I was going to extend the ice wall all the way around and make kind of a movable and interchangeable set like they do in Red Dwarf, this is as far as I got in July, and all of my plans got flipped on their head, sadly. I was going to continue the classic space theme, Minus Stormtroopers naturally. Right now it's acting like a small display piece for an AT-ST, but I've reconfigured it a bit so it's more in-line with what I had planned.

The overall plot was going to be Spaceman crash lands on Ice Planet (I was going to have a film maker friend help out with a couple of Webms for that), and finds some kind of outpost, he then explores, triggers some kind of security system, and Big Red here wants to have words with him along the line of "Blickity, blockity, get of my property".

The rest is pretty predicable. It was going to be pretty hammy in all honesty, so I may just continue expanding this and do it next year, but now I've given shit away, I'll change it up. I'm sure I can work an /lg/ meme into the plot again.

Was the Anon asking for advice. Went all out and sprang for pirates idea set; it really was too tempting. Plan to enjoy that one and hold off any any more big buys until the ideas castle set gets approved. Joys of being a normally paid hikki with a degree and no debt. Also picked up the 60th anniversary promo for cheap to see if it has any cool new micro build techniques or ways I can think of to improve the builds in it. Plus all the little classic inspired designs are cute.

Limit yourself with a pull-based approach. Just grab two handfuls of lego and dump it on your desk. Try to make whatever comes to mind. Forget about the rest; just mess around with that pile while watching something.

do it little by little
like first big sweeps like minifigs/2x regular bricks/wheels
then 1 x bricks/ big plates/ 2x plates, smaller plates etc.
it's not something you do overnight
also consider fudging around in digital besides doing builds with the pieces you have, you learn what pieces exist in one and can fudge around without cluttering your house/workspace
then test things irl too as digital isnt always fully reliable and to test what 'feels' good in hand and is sturdy.
