Figures, splinter was the only one i DIDN'T procrastinate on.
Oh well, 90% of what I wanted mine to do was do the kinda dinosaur hands or have one hand over the other, fretting, and the standard open hands do a fine job of that.
plus I got the most important accessory, the pizza slice that fits on his head.

This year? Hard to say. They've got Chinese New Year coming up, so it'll probably be focusing on getting wave 3 shipped, and wave 5 pre-orders up. Maybe they'll throw the wave 1 re-ups in there too. They wanted to keep from overloading people though. I don't know how that'll end up working.

It's hard to say how soon you'll see re-releases since they're going to be released thru BBTS, and it's unclear if there will be a pre-order or if BBTS is just buying a set amount and then putting them up for sale. If the latter you might see them sooner, perhaps even this year. It also depends on if they meant a re-release of wave 1 or a re-release of all 4 turtles because people missed the boat on pre-orders. This will probably be something Super7 will follow up on the next time they do an interview on the line.

NECA decided to fuck over early adopters again and gave the two pack Splinter extra hands and a slice of pizza for his head that none of the other releases came with. Like how they fucked us over by including the mutagen canister and pizza box from the SDCC pack they said would be exclusive to it, every release of Ralph since then having corrected head paint, Donnie getting his ribbons to hold his staff on the back of his harness, etc. The later you buy a NECA figure the better it will be, assuming you haven't already panic bought it because you'll never see it again.

they need to quit using satin ribbons, they are not appropriate material for any of this. What Rahzar had for his shield is what should be used for that kind of thing. I replaced my Splinter's belt with a thin black plastic coated wire tie that looks better

Yeah, they don't stayed tied for shit. I've got a spool of ribbon that is a similar style and size to what NECA used on Splinter, and I'm pretty tempted to do a proper gi belt tie.

Super7 is all about patience. They're the company you order toys from 8 months in advance.

They've also said FOR SURE they're re-releasing Wave 1, specifically wave 1. If it was wave 2, I'd have different advice, but if you're after characters in wave 1 (I personally want to pick up a couple foot soldiers) then you can wait confidently and get them from the source for retail (instead of off a scalper) sometime this year, and you'll get them in the mail probably early next year.

Tokka and Rahzar are absolutely incredible figures. I absolutely love these figures, I'd say these are what I wanted since I was a kid, but I'd probably have bled myself to death as a kid. Tokka is just so damn pointy.

I think tokka has a few compromises, like I think his legs are ALSO a bit long with plastron a bit short, and I don't think his lower jaw was quite that wide in the movie, but it's all understandable.. and it's worth it for that gorgeous shell. You can tell these designs really had 'mutation' in mind. and the way NECA handles fur is really interesting.

In the process of looking it up though, I heard about the movie they were going to make after the 2007 one, and it sounded amazing. They were going to make it a direct followup to the first movie, ignoring the rest? animatronic costumes with CG enhancements to facial expressions, a nice dark tone (which got it canceled) and then TMNT got sold to Nick. I remember Laird was really unhappy at the time, going by his blog. that was probably the last straw.

I have a fondness for Next Mutation because it was the first TMNT media I ever watched. Would love a Silver(big yeti crime boss voiced by Garry Chalk , best known as BW Optimus Primal) Or Simon Bonesteel(played by voice actor Scott McNeil, best known for doing a ton of voices across Canadian anime dubs in the 90s and Beast Wars). and the big longshot would be somethign like Van Mi, who I'd buy because I like her Bettie Page cut and I could always use more vampire figures.

More likely they'd pick up with Mirage comics stuff or the archie comics stuff, which would let them do alternate versions of the latter toys

The materials used for rahzar's armor really help sell their ramshackle-ass "literally took apart a car and chained the pieces onto him because our enemies have swords and the other one has a shell" aesthetic.
I do think that the various little hanging strings and such would have benefited from being real cloth so they could hang and dangle better without having to be rewarmed and rebent at each pose.

I think the Next Mutation had some good concepts and character ideas but the executions was really poor.

There's no bicep swivel and the shoulder joint is asymmetrical. From the elbow down works somewhat if you want to just display it.

Extreme thing to do is cut the bicep, turn and glue it so it face forwards. Use some epoxy putty to match the fur and paint.

Yeah, admittedly I was more into the toyline than the actual cartoon. Having the turtles is nice, and it's a bonus that they're actually decent, if not good figures. Having that same 'toy over toon' mentality translated over to Bebop and Rocksteady--who I guess aren't inherently 'bad' figures, but they definitely dont shine like the turtles--just isn't worth it to me, personally.

He lets slip during the interview multiple times that she's more based off of the '87 cartoon rather than the vintage toy like they were originally going to do:

Here in the interview he says that they're not going to be as toy accurate with April:

I think that was boiler plate on Bryan's part regarding She-Ra's age, so nobody misunderstood him when discussing the character like a regular person. All it takes is one moron to start complaining that you sexualized an underage character who's age only exists in your head, despite being drawn as an adult and more or less shown and portrayed as an adult and can be any age you want them to be, since it's subjective fantasy. This happened in comics before and was the reason CBR deleted their forum, because one blogger they hired, who was some mentally ill woman(it says she has mental problems on her wikipedia page) with a tumblr account(she actually had one) who had been fired from DC comics, wrote a blog for them saying how upset she was over the size of Wonder Girl's breasts on the cover of a Teen Titans comic and how the character might be underage and couldn't consent to be drawn that way. She then complained and said comics fans were sending her rape threats online, so CBR turned on their fans and mass banned people and then deleted their forum.

Well that too. You were dealing with 3 different versions of the Turtles: Mirage, Playmates toys, and the cartoon. The cartoon was based on the toys, which sometimes took liberties with the characters and made changes, and the toys themselves made changes. There was also lots of concept art for the toys where characters are vastly different from their final version. Casey Jones is a meat head football player in a number of early Playmates concept drawings.

Ah, I guess the winged Turtles were the only original figures in that line-up. The last 3 years get a lot of flak for focussing on the turtles over the other mutants but I think we got some of the best sculpts in that era.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Playmates Usagi figure is awesome and I'll 100% be getting the Super 7, but getting this instead of the comic style figure we deserve makes this feel like a missed opportunity. Hopefully NECA gets the rights as well since the 87 cartoon design was almost identical to the original comic.

I really think the line would have kept going if a number of figures were "evergreen" and re-issued again and again, although did do a bunch of re-issues, the line fizzled out quite a bit when you could only get gimmick turtles. It's a diseased person who regards every post that points out a NECA quality control issue as "overblown," a "non-issue," or "clearly the result of hamfisting," or whatever fucking rationale you NECA simps trot out.

Three Targets and 12 different copies of this figure on the shelf, and this was the best one I could find, and even it has these bizarre rubs in the paint, like the figure was handled or brushed up against something before the paint had fully dried. The rest of them looked far worse in various ways. 12. Fucking. Copies.

This isn't a case of a bad figure here or there--the rare Krang that DOESN'T have a glaring issue is the exception, not the rule.

That said, it's completely on people like me, the degenerate CONSOOMER, who still seeks out and buys this stuff, that enables NECA's shit quality control standards. So on the one hand, people like me can't complain ALL that much about things never changing on NECA's end, when we just keep funneling them money in spite of poor output, yet on the other, the complete denialism evidenced RIGHT HERE IN THIS VERY THREAD is a whole other type of mental degeneracy, worse even than the fags who keep spamming pics of QC issues thread after thread. And you know I'm right.

I wish Super7 had put File Cards on the packaging. I always liked on old toys when they included them. I'm not sure what the first toy to ever include one was, but "The Toys That Made Us" claimed with G.I. Joe they started out as little index cards that Marvel Writer Larry Hama had made up to help him write the tie-in comic as a sort of Series Bible.

There's things in IDW that are ok such as certain concepts and ideas, but I dipped out on it awhile ago. I did the same thing with G.I. Joe and Transformers aside from ARAH. Anything IDW may as well not exist to me.

Yeah, I like tmnttoys.com. I just wish some of the photos were better and higher quality; I believe the site's been around for awhile, and that's probably why the photos could stand to be better. I'd like it if they re-organized the site to be more like yojoe.com where there's more detail on each figure and accessory and higher quality photos and scans of packaging and file cards.

that is sad. it seems like this figure in particular has some of the worst of it. So far I have the majority of the movie line and no flaws. Not a single offcenter eye.. my Rahzar's grille is pretty loose but I think that was intentional. But people are finding flaws on the movie figures too. Seems like not as many though? And the paint overall seems way less sloppy vs the toon ones that have these 'outlines' drawn on (hey maybe it's emulating the shoddy look of CBS animation haha)

Same anon you're responding to. Agreed. I own all the movie figures with Tokka and Rahzar on the way, and I've never had quite the number and severity of issues with them, if at all. The toon turtles? Yes, off and on. But Krang, there is no excusing this. Shit took a real downturn this year for NECA, particularly as the releases wore on across lines.

I noticed a lot of the Toon Turtles stuff seem to have paint issues or plastic tolerance problems. I still generally enjoy the line, but I wouldn't argue with someone who said there was an awful lot of QC issues going around. My only guess is that the Neca figures are more meant to be $20 or $25 price range figures sold in 2-packs. I feel like the movie turtles are higher quality and that the Toon Turtles line would be better if they dropped the whole painting the entire figure thing, instead of casting the parts in the proper colors.

is THAT what they're doing? no wonder. Paint-on-paint is always iffy. and that gives you TONS more opportunities for paint rubbing off. Why would they deliberately do something like that, doesn't it cost MORE than using the proper colored plastic?

You can see it's bubbling and in the one arm photo a different color plastic underneath.

Casting a figure or certain parts of figures in one color or as few colors as possible can save a lot of money on tooling molds. Hasbro has done stuff like this in Star Wars before, and Super7 a few times early in MOTU Classics did it, such as Ultimate Skeletor who had painted hands, which was a bit annoying, because you just knew eventually it'd cause paint rubbing from holding his weapons. Or on their Club Grayskull Sorceress where they painted her upper arms, which caused the sholder joint to rub away her paint exposing her flesh colored under arms. Neca's probably saving a fortune casting most of the toon turtles in one color and then painting them. Takara has issues like this with their Transformers Masterpiece figures, where they paint the entire figure and it just results in paint chipping and rubbing, but Takara does it, because they think it makes the figure look higher quality and can hide things like sprue marks.

but to make the whole thing gray (?) and then paint ALL of it? I have to think that costs more than, for example, making most of it in beige and only having to paint the gray and red parts, and casting the middle in red and barely having to paint squat. you'd save so much on paint and only need 2 or maybe 3 colors of plastic.

Whatever the rationale they use for it, it's the biggest offender I've noticed in regard to the QC. Neca has an obsession with these special paintjobs, such as they do with their video game figures to give them a pixelated look, and they do a fake cel-shaded look on the Toon Turtles line. I don't really care for it myself. I had paint rub with my Toon Leonardo's swords where his hand rubbed green paint onto one of them, and there was a white spot on the palm of his hand underneath the missing paint. You could see there was a white plastic underneath that they were cast in. They should really cut this out and more people would be happy.

I do question some of their design choices also. The new Krang figure just looks like it's asking to break with the way you put Krang in. I just saw a toy review of it, in which the reviewer Toyshiz says how he was given the figure free form Neca and then goes on to say that you're not supposed to play with the figures and that if they break it's you're own fault, because these figures are art pieces not toys.

Maybe the factory just has trouble replicating the look? They shouldn't lock themselves into this cel-shaded paint look. I think Randy was the one who decided on making them cel-shaded. Although Trevor Zammit is the Brand Manager, or at least the current one for the line. I'm not sure how long Trevor's been Brand Manager for TMNT. Maybe they use the paint to help make the figures separate from the game turtles and the cartoon turtles for sales purposes?

Krang seems pretty unnecessary to paint the way they did, they should have cast him in a flesh colored plastic and just painted the details. I feel like some of this may be a scheme to make people have to buy different versions of a figure, that if you wouldn't buy a video game version of a character if there was nothing different about the paint, and so on.

And as for the videogame repaints, the games DID have a very different palette from the show, so that should have been adequate (maybe throw in the flight parts from the game for krang)

Yup, everywhere you see flesh color, that's paint for the most part--unless we're talking about the elbow, shoulder and ankle joints, then that's exposed molded color, which they decided to do just for those pieces.

Looks to me like those joints are in the WRONG flesh color... so maybe that's what happened? they realized too late they had a big bad batch of plastic, and had to change the production line and that resulted in paint apps going on top of wet paint

Different figure, that's mine. The other photos is of someone else's; in their photo, the left leg is on the right, the right is on the left, and the yellow torso piece is rotated around, facing what *should* be backwards, except the legs are on there fucking wrong.
