If you can find Barracuda bay then I would go for it, its a really nice set. But if you can't find it then just wait for gardens of ninjago. At least where I am barracuda bay is still available on amazon at MSRP

Bonkle minifigs are kinda overlooked. Don't get me wrong, they're mostly ass, but they look cool and they managed even squeeze waist swivel on later ones.

Plus you can fit a regular minifig head on the Piraka minifigs. IIRC there's a Star Wars set that used the bonkle bodies.

I just checked Bricklink and the Piraka minifig are exclusive to bonkles.
The pieces weren't used in any other theme.

I do not believe that claim. I have never heard of ANYONE liking minidolls or the difference in scale. I've gotten my daughter a few friends sets because they were good parts packs, and she lamented they weren't "real Lego"

A couple of new designers they hired in the past few years grew up in the 90s and have a nostalgiaboner for anything from that time period. It's why Lego Legacy had a load of 90s characters (but no 2000s stuff), teal has been resurrected after being killed off by Mark Stafford in 2008 simply because it was widely used in the 90s, why there's references to 90s themes in modern sets and so on. I even think one of these designers shoved his own sigfig into a hidden side set (the prison one).

They don't give a shit about the secondary market.
If they did, they would sell "Legacy packs" or something similarly named once in a while, like 200(0) pieces of xy theme from the past. Limited time, limited stock, high prices, but the community would love it.

But Lego does not care about the community.
Re-using bricks over and over again prevents you from buying new ones in a way. Spending money on those shiny trans-green space police parts prevents you from spending that money on the newest and hottest licensed garbage set like that Ferrari.

They bought Bricklink to have the option to control it if things there would get out of hand or if they should feel that a secondary marketplace is not longer needed or desired (by Lego, not the fans).

I actually could see them buying some of the chinese companies (or the distribution rights for western countries) off if the legal route won't work and they continue to grow.

How many ninjago sets are there that adhere to the classic adventurers format of "building with lots of traps leading to a treasure room"? A temple with a couple traps isn't the same thing, it needs to have a treasure hunt play pattern

Is there a cheap way to store organized parts that isn't ziploc bags? I have a few of these but it has become clear to me that it will cost hundreds of dollars to buy enough of these things that I can store everything.

I only use these organizers for small parts, like minifig weapons/items and for sorting printed elements.
Rest is using bigger drawers (pic related) or are color sorted in ziplocks and in huge transparent boxes i hide under bed.

This would make the most sense why they would want to get rid of them, and it makes sense from a business standpoint. Killing off baseplates has been a long and slow process, as they've been minimizing their usage over what is now decades. New road plates are not a spur of the moment decision for them, they planned this all along.

I like the idea of them but did the dummies really need to try to recoup all of the tooling costs in this first wave? If this is going to be a thing from now on they could've made these initial sets a lot more substantial in surroundings. Look at the $100 price tag on Town Center (60292). When you take off the $20 on the road plates and look at what's left, it's really sparse. Especially compared to Donut Shop (60233) which was at $90 on the Lego store.

It honestly seems like they have a philosophical issue with baseplates as much as a financial one. From a flexibility perspective baseplates do suck, I have no doubt people who build cities will be able to do way more interesting things with the new road system.

I doubt that. I think the new plates aren't versatile enough eg. for people who want bigger vehicles to fit. Of course there's gonna be one millionaire dude who'll build a huge, albeit immovable city with those plates but they had other stuff to work with before too, not just baseplates.

They shut down the company Lepin and put its CEO in jail. Copying not only sets, but also set numbers and box artwork apparently was to much.

The company is operating (again), under a different name and others that do copy sets also exist, but the purge had another effect: Many of the companies from china stopped outright copying Lego sets, they release their own series now.
So instead of doing a 1 to 1 copy of a City police station for example, they release a different police station. Some are only slightly different (blue police vs red gangster), some are a complete different theme (like jungle police vs big game hunters). Same with modular buildings.

It was an interesting change, and it benefited the whole market because it showed that a company does not need to copy Lego to make good sets (see the CaDa Ferrari for example)

I only bought a couple of smaller sets in the 5-15€ range, so they are rather "play"-sets, and so far i was not disappointed.
What i noticed is that bigger tiles are often a bit matte or even scratched. Same with windows and cockpit trans parts. The parts itself are fine (clutch), but they look like they have been in a Lego bin for some time.
Besides that, totally fine sets with interesting topics that Lego does not touch these days. (generic space/futuristic cops/military etc)

I ordered a couple of sports cars in the size and style of the Lego Speed Champions the other day. Really looking forward to these. There are almost a hundred different car designs available.

Most of the MOCs are so huge, i doubt i will ever find the space to put them somewhere, so i don't even consider getting them.
Problem with (stolen?) MOC designs is that if they are built in CAD only, the stability will never be tested beforehand.

When it gets here I'll remember to (for once) take pictures & do a small review, albeit it will take me 3-5 days to build, maybe more. Not because I am slow but because I want it to last.

I also assume a lot of the pieces are "non pieces" or rather "bulking" pieces, like a bunch of small adornments, etc...

Also I hope the quality is trash so I don't buy more fake lego because I love ye olde vintage space and if the chinks make transparent green neon shit I'll be kill.

Bionicle was one of the Lego themes i never really got into, and never followed closely.

I remember that there was a series of what i think were the first bionicle robots. They had an elastic arm to throw discs at each other.
I had a blue/ice one and my brother had a fire themed one.
Thats it basically, we grew older and never got any more Lego shortly after that.

Yes as seen here >>8684188. Also you can buy them via bricks and pieces through the replacement parts submenu of support on lego's website. There are at least a few other colors. You'll have to dig for it though. As long as the color appears in a modular set within the last few years, you should be able to order it.

They will eventually be based, been accruing parts for a while but I hesitate to start construction when I'm already scrambling to find room for the fleet. It will be a substantial installation, with a refinery, communications hub, research and intel divisions, workshops, a fully enclosed garage large enough to service any one of the non-spacegoing ships... Thanks guys, makes it all feel worthwhile heh. Think I'll have to make the base modular as well for storage reasons; could maybe pick a section to start with and see how it goes. In the meantime I have those two new additions to the fleet, waiting on a couple parts for them but one is essentially finished; its missing parts are for an attachment. Still need to give both the carrier test though, see if any final adjustments are necessary.

What the fuck is wrong with whoever designed the Technic fairing-style panels? Fairings are supposed to reduce gaps. I can't seem to find a way to put those together so as not to create more gaps, with a few exceptions.

Stupid CADfag, you're going to be even more disappointed when you get them.

Anyway, you should get a technic set in the colors you're intending to use. They'll demonstrate some of the weird compound connections they do to get the angles and positions for the fairings.
If you're familiar with hiding knee/elbow joints under some detail, you should be able to figure out how to hide pin holes or irregularities with where they're connected.

I do have them (got a few smaller sets like 42057 for MOCing), I just now wonder how the hell should I use them before I buy-in and try to match actual colours.
