One of my personal favourite repaints. Because he can be multiple characters and also because this mold just feels better as a Deceptigoon, I gave him a fancy G2 logo over the weird “app-compatible” on his bucket.

For those not in the know this is Adventure Roadblock.

Any suggestions on how to get these stripped screws out? I can't get the rubber band trick to work, I don't have a small enough drill bit, there's no way I can epoxy something to the screw head without also bonding to some plastic...

I think Overlord was the priority, they knew LG’s number was up and really what could they have done to improve Sky Shadow over the TR version? He’s one of the most physically imposing modern leaders with exceptional articulation, stickers weren’t TOO BAD and unlike Overlord his two components can combine in vehicle mode. Plus he’s a merc and the makes that shelf look great.

Mercenaries are a criminally underused idea, that some Cybertronians said “fuck it” and became hired guns, bounty hunters, thugs, assassins and all manner of renegades is not only badass but makes sense given how the scale of the war has been increasing (remember when it was only on two planets?)

I mean we’ve always had turncoats, traitors and double agents but they were individual and kinda few and far in between.

I moved Oilmaster, Dreadwind, Darkwing, Nightbird, Lockdown, Circuit and Deadlock to the Merc shelf.

I still operate under the assumption that Netflix Impactor is meant to be Dome Guard Mercs/generic cons, the toned-down colours and recent army builders revealed for the Netflix line make me inclined to believe that Hasbro just slapped Impactor on there to move figures.

Mudflap would be great, I’ve had an idea rolling around for a box set themed for these guys.
Packrat from Core Rattrap
Detritus from Hound
Mudflap from Grapple

Ideally it would be called “Mercenary Recon Pack” the first of three box sets each with escalating tiles Recon, Assault and Command. With dual box art detailing the included Mercs fighting for the Autobots on one side and Decepticons on the other.

Transformers Arms Micron Rumble and his octopus friend

Surprise, he's a lot like Frenzy. Just a cute little sporty blue coupe. Not a car guy so I don't know if it's based on any real car. I doubt it.

The red windows are a nice colour combo and appropriately decepticony.
His little friend has blue stickers so you can tell him apart from Frenzy's.

Not sure how much I like the blue on blue.
I do really like the blue but I don't think it beats Frenzy's red and black.

The Gurren body is obviously still there. Little harder to make out this time.
There's a lot of clear plastic here, the shoulder guards and a layer oreo'd between halves of the torso, but I don't feel concerned about it like I have every piece of clear plastic made in the last three years.

Rumble is a more polite than Frenzy.

I gotta say, I think my favourite part of the design on this mold is the way the car side panels turn into these back pylons.
It's a cool look.

Pretty posable, just missing a waist really, more than I thought he would be.
Better balanced too. Probably to do with his ankle tilts.

Weight wise he's pretty much right in line with a modern WFC deluxe.

The assumption is that Wheeljack was probably meant to have a second weapon to attach to his shoulder rocket thing, like most Siege/ER figures, they either nixed it or never used it. You technically can still attach guns to it since many have 5mm barrels, but I don't recommend it.

Kup is mostly a reference to the movie scene, but due to the limbs being 5mm you can give him weaponizer limbs or give his arms and legs to other figures.

As for Kup’s limbs, they’re to replicate the seen in the movie where he gets 3/4 of his limbs torn off by a giant robot octopus. Hot Rod can turn one of his hands into a welder to fix him, just like in the movie.

As for why all four come off? Probably simpler to do so than not, plus it gives extra options like third party limbs to replace, or maybe some Fossilizer parts.

Nope, definitely not. The mouthplate + visor look really gives it that knightly look. Part of the reason the purple repaint stood out to me was the silver highlights that accentuate the knight features comboned with it being mostly translucent it really looks like a stand

It's pretty darn good, my only complaint is that the robot mode is a bit back-heavy. You can see anon has them all bending forward in his pic, because that's pretty much the only way they'll stand up on their own.

In this picture Prowl has the fixed knees. All it means is that the "bad" ones usually affect the look of the car mode as it doesn't peg as flush together, it isn't more prone to breakage than the other.

After having the ratchet detent shear off my Grimlock's right leg, it kind of drove me nuts how Grimlock's left leg had that ratchet click while the right leg was just a smooth friction joint so I decided to try and fix it. For some reason I felt compelled to save the little strip of plastic that used to be the detent, so I figured I should just glue it back on.

Only thing was that since the knees are pinned together I figured it wouldn't come apart, but I actually managed to get it unpinned which was surprising and very lucky.

Plastic cement doesn't work on whatever they use for Grimlock's grey plastic (seriously that shit never fucking works on any plastic I actually need it for) so I tried super glue, which actually is working pretty well which is surprising since super glue is usually too brittle to hold up against anything that has to flex or take force, e.g. the detent of a ratchet joint.

Seems like the ratchet reconstruction surgery was a success, I don't exactly trust super glue to last forever when it's used like this though.

The only problem is that evidently I didn't glue the detent back into exactly the proper position, so now his fixed right knee clicks into slightly different positions than his stock left knee. In this picture I have both his legs set into the same/equivalent positions and there's a noticable difference, but hopefully it won't be annoying enough to bother me. Hopefully.

I tried. You can do it, but Grimlock's fuck huge arms make it near impossible. You have to make a different configuration to fit the sword in his hand, and doesnt quite look right. Also he cant hold it right anyway.

How do I stop being retarded and just buy the mainline guys I want instead of impulsively grabbing whatever cool-looking literal whos that pop up on Pulse? I have most everyone I need. I'm basically missing Kup, Hot Rod, Cyclonus and Scourge. (and the inevitable Armada and Sweep armybuilding packs, C'mon Selects that's what you're perfect for.)

My only other purchase interest right now is buying up some Beast Era bug bots to fill out the ranks. Just got Insecticon, Drill Bit, Retrax and Scarem in... I kind of want to buy the Takara versions as well, at least for the guys with a big deco change like Power Hug.

It never ends, does it?

Blot and Rippersnapper were great but the other limbs were mediocre at best and Hun-Gurrr's shoulder ratchets are so terrible that the combined form basically has a 50-50 chance of actually standing. TR had wall to wall gold with the deluxes, but POTP is the worst line since FoC. Nothing but terrible gimmicks ruining what could have been good figures and even when the toys were decent they were covered in cheap stickers that were peeling before you even unboxed them.

I've transformed mine maybe a dozen or so times and nothing's broken so far, and I'm not even that delicate with my toys. There are entire threads and guides to attempting to fix those joints. Instead of being a proper spring > plunger > gear setup like in basically every other toy hasbro has ever made with ratchets. This makes the joint rely entirely on the little square of plastic bending inside of the joint to keep pressure on the gear. You either rolled the dice and won and got one where the plastic didn't bend too far or have bad tolerances to begin with or over time the soft plastic that both parts are made of will sheer eachother to paste and lose any tightness the joint once had. It's fucking embarassing. Snaptrap has the same issue but the plastic is of slightly higher quality so while it still fucking sucks compared to proper rachets, it's not as bad as Abominus.

Don't feel too bad, I waited until today to fix a shoulder pin that wasn't inserted all the way on my TR Black Shadow despite owning it since release. The best part is that it took less than 3 minutes to do it.

Well, not all of the color schemes were bad. At the time, pretty much every American toy was using bright, neon color schemes, so it didn't seem too weird, especially if you grew up during that era. In my case, I grew up at the tail-end of G2 (and while I owned a few transformers from then, I didn't really get into the series until BW), so seeing the original color schemes of most characters (especially Beachcomber, the Aerialbots, and Constructicons) still strikes me as 'weird', even today.
Also, some of the original characters from that generation were pretty nice - I miss by old buddy Turbofire, and wish he'd get a modernized toy at some point.

I swear plastic quality was worse during that time too. Late TR until the end of POTP all the voyagers just felt weedy and cheap. Like comparing a current year or 2010 voyager to a POTP or TR voyager and it feels like night and day. Still waiting for one good Broadside that doesn't have one totally scuffed mode.

Are we likely to see a rerelease of these two and ratchet? I'm trying to think of alternatives, but the only things I can think of are KO masterpieces or the universe figures for Ratchet/Ironhide, but I'm not sure how the MP figures scale with voyager Prime. And for Prowl all there is seems to be the Siege figure and the Universe figure. If we aren't gonna get a rerelease or restock what are some alternatives?

I have it and dont mind it at all, but I like Armada Megs not just because of his personality but also because of his design. You can kinda recreate his shoulder pylons by raising the tank treads on his back but it just doesn't look right. The other thing is his unique placement of his cannon. I really appreciate Megs with different cannon placements, which is why I was super dissapointed with the G2 Megs recolor of ER Megs.

Nah the toy isn't bad by technicality. It's bad as an update to Armada Megatron though. Released alongside G1 Megatron in the same wave who the mold is arguably more accurate to. This Megatron as a result doesn't have the cannon on his backpack that he can swivel forward anytime, he doesn't have the bulk that makes him threatening and no shoulder tread pylons. Not to mention he was released in the same wave as G1 Megatron so really CW Armada Megatron had no selling power.

It's because they made the arms separate from the shoulder pylons which you can obviously see. Makes the arm look tiny without the shoulder pylons directly connected to it to bulk it up. Still looks far better than >>8862884

I hope he keeps the Triple Changer gimmick just so his ground mode is just movie Sentinel's vehicle mode.

I get that people liked this line as little kids because minicons were sick but good god. Only one I ever had that had knees was just Prime and nobody else. My initial impression is better than TR Galvy, if only because he isn't saddled with that shitty Headmaster gimmick anymore. The revealed image makes his head/arms look a bit off, but I'm thinking it's a combination of the camera angle and the really, really big guns that are throwing things off. Also, the shoulders are mistransformed, which also makes him look a little off. Haven't seen how his alt mode looks yet, so no comment on that. I'll reserve my final judgement for when I see pictures of the actual toy from a few different angles.

Transformers Cybertron Hot Shot

His third toy and probably the best one. The blue and yellow does something for me. Makes me think of speed. Probably the electric slime in Mario Sunshine.

This is the kind of sci-fi car we should all being driving in the space year 2021. He's so swish. There's even a molded interior!
I got his super slick cyber key speed fins popped out because there's no reason to not have them out all the time.
They're clear plastic, but like yesterday I'm not worried about it breaking. They're over 2mm thick. Actually the whole middle third of the car is clear plastic.

He's so obviously Hot Rod, I so wish I had one of the red repaints.

They're hanging a bit too low, even if they were going for cartoon accuracy look at his left shoulder (right side from this angle) and you can see it's not hanging properly. Given that the black shoulder pads are most definitely not in the right spot, having other parts of his transformation done wrong in the pic isn't out of the question.

Robot mode is somehow even more Hot Rod-y, with the spoiler on the back and the triple blasters on his forearms.

They don't do it very often but Takara just lifted his six step transformation wholesale from Exkaiser. It made the 15 year jump pretty gracefully I think.

Even if he's just a stack of blocks with shins as thick as his torso he still looks really dynamic. The head sculpt is iconic mid '00s.
Only thing I don't like about him visually is the wheels on his arms fuck up the bicep to forearm ratio pretty badly.

The colour scheme does a weird flip in robot mode. All this red and dark blue gets introduced and the yellow is dialed way back.
The Auto-badge on his shoulder looks 100x time better than Armada's botch job.

Technical stuff
Hot Shot's articulation is a little better than I would have guessed.
Not great but having a neck and ball hips is a good start. There was definitely room to add a waist and knee swivels.

For being a speedster, he's a chunky boy. Hot Shot clocks in at 155g, for deluxe price back in the day you were getting the same amount of plastic as a modern Voyager plus a Core class.

Far as I can tell the red-er Excellion was a limited release in Japan. Tfwiki says it came with dvds of galaxy force and there were only 500. We've come a long from the 'here's a current line toy painted to homage a classic character' days.

I had the Hot Rod colors one for a long time, and even replaced it with Getaway when that repaint happened, and I only just noticed in your pictures the arm guns. They just felt like ridges more than cannons to me. That dark era when Hasbro was scared of letting Hot Rod-esque toys have good arm guns.

Got him for £20 and still thought he was bad. His arms are terrible and that's in service of a tank mode turret that feels completely fucking sketchy to creakily swivel around. That's without talking about how he absolutely no-sells the idea of being like Armada.
Does kinda win out on the tank mode deco though. Not even worth what I paid for him but it IS quite a looker with all the plates picked out.
