Probably is. Super7 uses renders like that for their early reveals all the time. That's why everyone had no clue what the TMNT line's articulation was going to be like until the actual figure made it out.

Yep that’s the proto of the old playmates toy. Design changes happen from prototype to launch, they also got rid of his missing finger (which was supposed to be visible on one of his pizza accessories)

Ok, this probably isn't going to be a popular choice, but I want to see how they'd interpret a Playmates style Renet. Maybe have Savanti Romero in Wave 6.

Look, I just always enjoyed these characters and I feel like it was a wasted opportunity not having them in the third movie (which was an awful movie, but the plot wasn't the reason why). Still weird that Renet wasn't in it even though they were clearly using her time scepter.

It's very unlikely but who knows. They're still playing April very close to the chest, so there could be a surprise or two in wave five also.

Especially considering they're keeping the fourth character in the wave under wraps for the big finish, I'm not expecting it to be an obvious bad guy like Rat King. Actually, on second thought, it's probably going to be Usagi or a Punk Frog.

My apologies to the Pizzaface and Slash bros, but Leatherhead probably took the "big guy" slot for this wave.

Wait THAT'S what the peg in his open chest is for? A gun attachment? I always thought it was just the way they sculpted a "latch" onto his chest to keep it closed.

Movies2 and 3 could’ve been closer to Mirage like with some tweaks. MakeShredder’s resurrection done by worms and the scientist a Utrom as intended. Instead of Tokka and Rahzar,they could’ve madeLeatherhead or had Bloodsucker/Wyrm by stealing some turtle blood. And 3 could’ve had Renet.

They made a big deal about redoing April and giving her a brand new sculpt top to bottom, waited about half a year for the reveal... and honestly, I don't see any difference. Maybe the head is different?

Yeah the original had thin plastic that inevitably snapped if you bent it more than a few times. Unfortunately much like Leo's swords this seems to just be one of the times they don't care to make it like the original toys.

I guess I'm okay with these changes. Maybe they'll do the ol accessory pack thing sometime down the line, or include them in some figure that originally came with dupe weapons (though he'd need new sheaths too)
it's funny, it reminds me a lot of my own art projects.. the goal of adapting whatever I'm drawing changes a bit over time, accuracy might vary, might be more willing to be creative in some areas and stick to the canon in otehrs..

You guys really see a difference? I'm trying here but the only discrepancy is the slight pose change, the torso and limbs look identical and the head looks the same just tilted upwards. I feel like I'm on crazy pills over here. These really look different?

it also looks like the thigh were slimmed down a tiny bit, which i think wouldve been nice to have kept it the way it was.

Honestly... it looks as if they took her CAD file and slimmed it down. Moreso some pieces than others. Notice how you overlaid the two, but the heads ended up very different, that's because she's now proportionately taller than before. If you look at the side by side, the belts don't line up even though you lined up the top of the head and bottom of the feet.

I'm surprised nobody, other than playmates in some of the stranger figures, ever tries to mold more dynamic nunchaku poses. Because a straight chain is really only good for a direct striking pose or being held in two hands and bent slightly.. but if you wanted to pose, like, the thing spinning or flinging out at an enemy, you'd be SOL.
at least with the rope-type you can use a posable wire, like the movie line. although even the toy still made the rope way too long, again probably for two-handed poses

you might be right. and as it is, it looks like s7 april's head is possibly even a little SMALL (tough to say since the old toys used very chibi proportions, as many old toys did. it's kinda tough to say how a normal human 'should' look in a line full of bulky mutants and crouching ninja guys in huge helmets) so that might actually be a winning combination.
On the other hand they're surely giving this one her blue or orange stripes, right? so it won't be totally toon-accurate.

Here's where sticking hardcore to the toyline is a double edged sword, he keeps the goofy proportions mostly as I was afraid he would.

Also, for some reason they mostly gave him human teeth? Despite the original toy only having flat teeth in the front, probably for safety reasons.

I think the problem is they made his arms a little thinner for the sake of articulation. It makes the proportions not work quite as they should. That, and as I mentioned before, despite the prototype artwork keeping the original toy proportions, most of the line so far has tried to improve on the stumpiness and make everyone look just a bit more proportional, so it's odd they didn't give this guy the same treatment. But no real complaints.

are those tegaki shuko? I remember they used them once in the 2003 series and it felt awesome and authentic... but on the other hand, I'm just now realizing that those look a bit more like nekode meant for attacking rather than climbing.. they literally have indentations for four thin human fingers, it wouldnt work nearly as well with turtle hands (the climbing ones just have sort of an oval cuff to slide your entire hand into)

Super hyped for this wave. Samurai Leo is one of my most nostalgic figures from the line, Krang looks great, Buck-Toothed Leatherhead has already grown on me because he looks so fucking stupid, and while I wish Ray's chest was purple and pink, I can live with it being the colors they changed to when the figure was warm. This is going to be a hard pill to swallow. I like the sculpt and all but in my opinion it doesn't justify the price especially since they raised them. Makes me think I should pick up the neca android while it is available. I am not sure if super 7 will ever do the android body because it probably won't be in the next 3 waves either.

Isnt it great how we all got attached differently back then? there's nothing like that anymore, where toys just invent characters that you immediately fall in love with and you're waiting for them to hopefully appear in the show, instead of the other way around. you could invent your own personalities and voices for them.. I have legitimate ties to guys like Wyrm and Walkabout, i stared at those longer than I've laid eyes on any person outside my family.

You do know that these figures all come with two sets of weapons, right? One on sprue, one loose and painted. This happened because when the line was first shown off, it was painted weapons on a sprue, and people complained about the missing paint where the nubs would be. So Super 7 decided to give us the best of both worlds, two complete sets of weapons. I respect them for keeping that gimmick going too, cause they're long past the point where sprues were a thing on the original toyline, so they're inventing all-new sprues now (and they all look cool as shit, like Ray's anchor/rope sprue, or Casey's hockey net sprue).

It's possible they're teasing slash in the next wave by including the baby version in this wave, although yeah, it should have come with Bebop, but I suppose they're adding anything to make the small Krang feel less empty than the other figure's boxes works.

It's worth noting that gas for your car and oil in barrels are a bit different. Crude oil is going up, but gas station prices plummeted because contrary to all post apocalyptic zombie media, gas goes "bad" after about a few months or so and they needed to try and sell it.
