Im very similar, gi joe tf lighting collection. I buy whats at retail since i can get it when im running errands. I cant justify a $100 on one import toy but ill buy jetfire or scorponok because huge transformers are awesome. I try to talk to people normally here but if some one acts like a shit head to me I go out of my way to rile them up. It's usually pretty easy to do then when they get peak mad I leave them hanging and go to another thread. One that hopefully is more civilized conversation.

I've actually been going through and buying old girls toy lines because I grew up on a street with a lot of girls really early in my youth, plus nearly all of my cousins were girls, so I have just as much nostalgia from playing with their toys as I did my own. Plus a lot of them had scented plastics that immediately bring back memories if you can still get a good whiff of them. I don't display any of it though, they're in bags in a tote down in the basement, and I just pull them out when I want to mess with them.

Buying toys doesn't make me happy and i've slowly been weaning myself off buying them.

I find i get more enjoyment out of waiting for a figure to release then seeing the official photos/discussion of said figure. The only regrets i have of buying figures is when they shoot up in value

I spend maybe £50 a month on figures at the most, have one tiny shelving unit and have 0 desire to complete an entire series, usually picking and choosing a couple of the most desireable figures per release.

I used to impulse buy so many figures, but now that i barely buy any i've noticed i'm just as happy and have way more money.

I own zero toys, beside one gifted funko (which is not considered to be toy)
But I enjoy hanging here and looking at pictures of toys.
Probably will never buy a toy.
If I am going to ONLY display them (like the majority of you guys do) there is zero difference between looking at the physical one or the picture of the toy

I remember the same thing happening in that god awful Jem movie that came out, there was a flashback scene in the 90s or 2000s but they were using modern MLP toys.
I think Hasbro must have some kind of rule that movies have to use their modern stuff.
