Out of the official ones I'd say the first 3 forms of matoran, the McToran, the rebuilt matoran, and the metrutoran.
Later ones feel a bit too big either in width or height and they look more like the toa mata in size. Otherwise I'd say custom ones are some I'm starting to peak an interest in.

Crates of Lego found deep in attic, spent 2 days sorting out the bonkle pieces from the regular junk Lego, now trying to pair found masks to digital manuals. Will throw up an image of the finished Bionicle later, might take a while because finding any specific piece will be hell since there's still 4 crates after sorting, and some of the parts are likely missing or damaged. Hopefully I can complete some cool ones to share.

Metru is ok, but I've always been fond of rebuild Matoran. They have a nice balance of gear function and posability, and they're pretty hefty for Matoran. Metrutoran always felt a little flat for me.

About the bionicle food discussion from last thread: I kind of like how they "don't eat" from a worldbuilding perspective, and how it seems gross, but from a story-telling perspective, I would like it better if they did eat and have meals and such. Plus, then you could explore the culinary practices of each koro or island and I think that would be fun. Plus, we always need more "downtime" moments as well as the action moments.

I like to imagine they "consume" the fish's energy with their hands and use the leftover fish pieces as spare parts to patch up their village. Maybe certain Rahi have special pieces that can be used for special purposes, which would make Rahi hunting and trading viable occupations.
Back during the very early development of MNOG, there was also the idea that living Rahi could be built from random parts but that wasn't really used later.

Apologies for the less than satisfactory grammar of this post. I was sleep deprived while writing it. Anyway, it's not lost on me that I am slow in building so instead of waiting until all of it is finished to post here's what I estimate to be the first half(?) of what can be built until pieces run dry.

Dog is missing his head, hope I can find it while building the rest. I vaguely remember painting blood on it and giving it away to someone so probably not.

I always really liked the Voya Matoran. I like how they all have design similarities shared across them despite being unique builds (which is part of the reason why I honestly don't really care for most of the unique build teams in the later years). If you know what you're doing with Bohrok feet and eye pieces it's really easy to make a matoran moc and have it be immediately obvious that it's meant to be a Voya Matoran.

I do wish they had at least one unique part or at least recoloured masks though. Even as a kid I remember being able to moc all of them just by eye'ing their pictures before actually getting them, except for Kazi because I couldn't figure out how the fuck you were supposed to get a Metru head attached onto a ball joint. Didn't expect him to just be a fucking sock puppet when I finally got him.

Other than them I really like the classic Mctorans, you can't do a lot of them but they got a lot of charm. I would like the rebuilt Matorans but the fact that parts don't exist to build them in green or black just absolutely ruins them for me. The rest of the Matorans are just kind of shit I don't care about them in the slightest. Except for Zesk I love those little shits.

Not those three, those are Maxilos, Brutaka, and Axonn. You're thinking of the combo between Brutaka, Axonn, and Vezon & Fenrakk. Maxilos was released a year later.

Probably because alot of systemfags hate Technic and that's Bionicle's parent line. Plenty of Biotards are also pretty annoying to outsiders so it's basically shit flinging from both sides while the silent anons who like both and don't give a shit become annoyed by the fighting.
Personally I like both forms of lego but I'd rather not pop into /lg/ for a bit with how demented that place feels. (Yes I think this thread is less horrible despite all the fans here who do questionable if not stupid shit)

Because A Kolhii match was an entire action scene in MoL which involved 3 teams of 2. Lego would only allow the budget for 6 small sets for 2003 as normal, so to promote the film, the minigame of Kolhii had to be reduced to only 3 villages. Ko-Koro was chosen over Le/Onu Koro because the white sets sold the best behind the red ones for the first few years.

I maintain that they should have just designed these sets to have the parts needed to build multiple characters. Like Maku and Hahli could have just been the same set that just came with both a Huna and a Kaukau. I'm sure the beancounters wouldn't have liked that but fuck em.

Easier/faster to check how a set is from taking a video of it assembled to check for stress fractures/clearly weak joints from the way it stands rather than checking each joint piece individually through photo or video. For larger sets it makes more sense that way.

Mine's probably the Kardas Dragon. I still think it's the best combiner set ever. Kinda wish they made a combiner set for the Mahri Nui Saga titans. I wonder what gadunka + hydraxon + maxilos & spinax would have looked like. Honestly, the chain and the gunmetal vezon head pieces could have made for a pit mutagen kardas dragon + vezon part two...add in Lesovikk's glowing eyes and the extra 2 matoran in the Karzahni set and you have yourself a diorama

Yeah that's the one. Mainly for the cool cape, but the set looked much nicer than anything else from that era. I lost interest when they stopped making cool Rahi, so by the time Kardas rolled around I was well out of Bionicle and I passed up a chance to get him on clearance from a Toys R Us. Still regret it.

I like the Metrutoran torso piece, but not so much the build in the official sets. The way they attached the Mata heads may have provided some cute MNOG-like movement options, but it's also really wobbly and comes off all the time. Don't know why they didn't just use Metru heads like you did here, maybe leftover parts or something like that.

The only ways I can think of that a Matoran could have a Nuva Kanohi would be A. a Toa Nuva gives their mask to a Matoran (like Jaller getting Lhikan's Hau) or B. a mask maker (like Matoran Vakama) intentionally makes a powerless Kanohi in the shape of a Nuva mask, for whatever reason. The thing with the minutia of Bionicle canon is that a lot of it is kinda dumb and arbitrary, so you can pretty much do whatever you want and make something up to explain it.

Unpopular opinion, but if you wanna buy small technic stuff for cheap and in a good variety of colours, buy chink. And by chink I mean GoBricks and fuck the other ones. Unless you want standard axles and pins, these are incredibly cheap on bricklink, even in black. Just be sure to put in a minimum quantity of like 300.

Alright /biog/, level with me. I have nearly every mainline G2 Bionicle set minus a handful of exclusions (both Umaraks, Uniter Lewa, Uniter Tahu, Ikir, Toa Ekimu, two of the Beasts, and the Makuta combiner if you count that). But, I'll be honest, I don't think I have much of a sentimental attachment to them, so I'm thinking about selling most (if not all) of them, and using the money to buy something from G1 that I've always wanted, maybe like a few 2006/2007 titans or something.

Masters are great sets. Their kanohi fit into G1 universe and due to fact that Toa Nuva wear adaptive armor that can change them into whatever, the masters look can be also canon looks for G1 Toa Nuva. I'm personally big fan of Onua. Some autists here will tell you that his buffed looks looks off and that Onua should look as a thin hunchback but I think that's dumb because I for example always imagined him as the big strong bulky yet wise guy of the group.

I bought used Bionicle for years, mostly to get it back into shape and resell it. Some I kept for myself. Do you have just the slightest idea how many useless limbs you will end up with and how little useful little technic parts you get out of it? How on earth is that even remotely comparable?
I could spend a lot of money, get mostly black and grey technic bits and be left with a bunch of stuff I didn't want
OR
I could get a thousand small technic parts brand new in many colours for around 60€
I mean, convince me why your idea is better. The only reason I can think of against my choice are 1. buying chink and 2. having it shipped on a big container ship

Yeah they were definitely alright revamps, but the thing is I already have three (four, counting Stars Tahu) different G1 interpretations of the original Toa, and I'm not too big a fan of the CCBS look for 'em, so ironically enough the Toa (Masters and Uniters) are probably gonna be the first ones to go for me, lmao. Same for the Creatures since they're sorta lame; ultimately the ones I'm on the fence about the most are the Protectors, LoSS, and the Skeletons. I guess ultimately I'm debating which ones are gonna be worth displaying next to my G1 sets, and those three groups are the closest to that criteria. I really wanted the Irnakk box set and I think I almost got my parents to buy it for me on my birthday. But my dad, and I have no idea how he did this because he didn't know shit about toys or legos, somehow found out that it was a combiner set for bionicles that I already owned and showed me a .pdf or scan or something of the instructions on how to build it on the computer. Didn't end up buying the Irnakk set for me, and it definitely is not the same without the gold parts. I'm sure if I wanted to buy them right now they're priced totally reasonably and aren't total assrape.

I guess I should still thank him for that anyway though because he indirectly taught me that I could find bionicle instructions online which was 1: great for sets I lost the instructions to and 2: great for finding other combiner instructions. if it weren't for him I probably would have never painstakingly built a Kardas Dragon using that one shitty .pdf with tiny images and fucked colours that make it impossible to see the pin holes on all the lift arms.

The snibbity snib bois in all their glory. There were a few technic beam parts missing from the yellow guy (some pieces from the one bag that was open) but I found replacements for all of them except for one which I could only find in black instead of gray. The motors still work great.

I hate the Swamp Strider, they make it look cool on the box but the legs are trash and there's really nothing you can do with it except swivel it around and aim up and down slightly. The Skopio is way, WAY more playable as a set.

The only redeeming quality that thing has is it figured out a really good way to build an extended magazine for zamor launchers and also keep the balls from falling out.

I got some what I thought were bionicles today (wasn’t allowed to look in box, sold as seen) pretty sure they’re Chima, I’ve identified most- crocodile, panther, etc, but I was wondering about these broken parts- specifically the rhino looking dude/blue pieces as It’s easy enough to figure out the gorilla.

Yes, illnesses and "viruses" were actually somewhat commonly used by Makuta in the story (the virus that infected the GSR, the Po-Koro plague, ...). Now those Makuta viruses are fantasy bullshit that can do anything from causing mild colds to granting superpowers, but since most Bionicle characters have biological components, it does stand to reason that real-life viruses would also affect them to some degree.
As for diarrhoea, that's entirely up to whether or not they shit in your headcanon.

The Shadowed One made the debut of its effects when he killed Ancient in Xia with the contents of a container carrying it. It was a metal eating component that devoured Ancient before he could act on killing/turning on him as he was also a member of the order of Mata Nui.

Then with other viruses, they do have certain ones that work as simply vague or estranged as dust or powder ones as with how Takanuva got to the big size and power display when Krika used it on him in the other dimension.

Obviously a lot of the bigger sets were wants, but I honestly I think it's probably just the last canister sets I needed to finish a wave. For one reason or another, there were a bunch of times where I only needed one set I never got. Toa Metru, Barraki, Toa Mahri, Mistika and Glatorian Legends I left just shy of completion. Not that I finished all the others, but having a set incomplete at 5/6 rather than like, 3/6 or whatever always felt more frustrating.

Yeah I heard the weight in the arms was too strong and there's barely any ankle articulation. On the plus, none of the winning models have been good so far; it's the art that always salvages them, as it's the art that becomes canon, and the art so far has provided for a good level of interpretation in regards to how you can build the characters; I wouldn't expect any less for the Hagah's art desu. At the very least I can imagine easily making my own interpretation of Bamongus without resorting to the >5 torsos

I would remove "Turaga" as a separate stage of life for Matoran and instead make Matoran become Toa and then Toa go back to being Matoran. "Turaga" are now just the Matoran that hold office in charge of the different Koros etc (like the protectors in g2.) Or alternatively, or in addition, also have smaller, weaker powers. A flicker of flame on a finger tip and can tell whether a Kanohi is a Great Kanohi or not, stuff like that (but not being able to use powered Kanohi). Also, remove the distinction of Great and Noble masks, Kanohi now don't have more than one shape. (Also, if a Kanohi is made in a different shape, then it won't have that power. Has to be forged using the right materials AND has to be the right shape.)

Holy shit you’re retarded. The Matoran life cycle is a parallel to our own.
Matoran are youth; small in stature, live a simple sheltered life and do what they are told. They embody Unity.
When Matoran become Toa they basically go through puberty; they get taller stronger and develop new abilities. Toa are adults in their prime who protect and serve their communities. They embody Duty.
When a Toa fulfills their purpose and become Turaga they retire from heroing and become community leaders, using the wisdom and experience they gained to guide others.
They have found their Destiny.

To be fair that kinda was the point of them in the first 3 years, it's just that none of the writers or probably anyone else knew how to add more despite there being plenty of opportunities to add or reuse older turaga more in the plot. I'd love to have seen more sets for them instead of just only having a toa or matoran build. Imagine seeing turaga from some of the regions that were more specialized like Mahri Nui or maybe not kill off the turaga for Voya Nui.

This is simply a fact of the toy business, kids generally prefer more badass, action-oriented characters. It's probably why Sensei Wu in Ninjago is more involved with the action (not that I know much about Ninjago to be fair).
Lego had a good chance to make Turaga more significant and popular in 2005, after they had already set up the return of Dume the previous year. He had the potential to be a wise and cunning, somewhat badass guide leading the Toa around in the ruined city that he knew best, helping them discover hidden passageways, giving them guidance but also dealing with the hardships himself, after he basically slept through an apocalypse. He could have been the role model for the Turaga that the Toa Metru became, teaching them his experiences and helping Vakama cope with the loss of Lhikan and his home.
But nah, they brought in the Rahaga instead.

I think this is perhaps the most apt interpretation of the most basic aspects of the Matoran life cycle, but that breaks a bit when you also learn that these stages aren't indicative of age. I guess age is particularly bullshit in Matoran, but there are instances of elderly Matoran. It's also excessively weird that The Metru became Turaga after only a few, what, months? It’s also one of the consequences of marketing to a Western audience. We don’t really value our elders here, unlike in east Asia.
If Bionicle was a Japanese franchise, the Turaga might been portrayed as more capable and competent characters.
I’m not saying it should have been a Japanese franchise of course. But it’s one notable example of differences in cultural values.

It's an interpretation of when the Toa Ignika devolved Icarax back into his pre-energy being state, back to when he still had organs and muscles. But since his armor was specifically designed for energy beings, there was no room left for his innards and they got crushed.
That's an actual scene from the novels. Why Icarax didn't just shapeshift his armor to be more spacious, well that's Greg for you. His major complaint about Bionicle is that there wasn't enough gore and killing, like in his pre-Lego works.
