You can still source parts from other kits for your builds, but the basis of your entry has to be at least 50% Zaku (ie: Swapping out the bottom half of a Zaku II with a Dom to make a Zaku II High Mobility Test Type would be acceptable, but throwing a Zaku head onto a Dom won't cut it). The 50% limitation refers only to the body itself, you're free to do what you wish with your suit's equipment.

Send all photos (Both WIPs and Finished photos, with multiple angles/poses) and a short description of your build to [email protected] once you're finished. Additionally, please state whether your home board is /m/ or /toy/ when you're submitting your entry. This information will remain private and won't be referenced with submissions, I just want to know which /gpg/ each entry represents.

I believe there are some kits for some of the super neato weird Zeke aircraft from UC. I also have an 08th MS team set that has one of the mass produced gundams, the tank and some other stuff.

Looking for that kit I also found this, which is a nicer kit of the hover tank itself.

It's not traditional scalping per se, it's just people realize they can resell on storefronts like Amazon and eBay so they are now buying kits full price from retailers (this is why literally everything is backordered on HLJ) and then selling them at markup. This is the way many storefronts on Amazon have operated for a decade, they just have identified gunpla as a good product to sell.

So my roommate is really trying to convince me to get into Gunpla, and I'm interested.
But my concern is that I have strength and coordination problems in my hands/fingers. My fine motor skills aren't great, like my handwriting is pretty bad, I can't tie knots that hold well, or cut/draw/fold consistently straight lines. That said, I have played piano /violin /guitar with some success.
How hard an endeavor is something like this going to be?

That's probably more to do with the shipping shortages. There aren't enough cargo ships going around to meet demand, so shipping companies are charging 2x or more for large commercial shipments. But scalping is obviously a problem too.

Update on Eye-Zack. There's only a week and a half until the show so I need to stop modding and finish cleaning him up tonight so I can start painting tomorrow. For mods I added more sensor equipment, different propellent tanks, and some random detail. Additionally I gave him a sniper rifle he will be propping up on his stand. Half the week I spent modding him was spent fixing broken parts as he uses a lot of that shitty more brittle plastic and as he was one of my first kits I broke his hips and fins and such previously.

I saw this in my head as a badass ATV for Miku to tool around in but the wheels are too small so it kinda came out looking like a cyberpunk riding mower. Also I really wanted to wire the trailer with LEDs and speakers so it could unfold into a neat little stage, but the lights I looked at were super fucking expensive so that's probably not going to happen.

Lots of tiny pieces, more than you would expect. Kind of fiddly, pieces pop off a lot. Glue will be your friend for some of those. Very tight parts tolerances, so trim your nubs well. Most of the AC kits are pretty dated at this point, Koto's kits have improved a lot since then.

They look pretty good though!

They're not fun builds, but the modularity is nice for play. This will 100% need to be painted to avoid looking like garbage but some of the parts actually slide over the rails and are held in place by friction. I think I'm going to have to be really careful with sanding before I make it look pretty.

The tolerances and the sizes of the tabs etc makes sanding a losing game.

First thing I did with mine was cut off the tabs so I can put the accessories over top of the rails without having to slide them.

In my case it was a drop of cement, but I never intended to make the accessories removable.

The tolerances are too tight for blue tack. From what I can see, you have 2 options if you want to swap attachments:

1. Don't paint the rails and the insides of the brackets on the attachments. That way bare plastic will be rubbing on bare plastic when you slide them.

2. If you insist on painting the rails, cut the tabs, drill a hole in the rail and put a pin into the attachment so it won't fall off.

I just use the cheapo gundam brand nippers, and if they go dull or get a chip or whatever, I just buy another pair. They last me at least two years and they're only like 5 bucks, so I can buy a couple pairs at a time to have backups. I never understood paying out the ass for fancy tools. A tool is a tool, and only a fool needs a fancy tool to do a better job than a cheap tool.

If you mean >>9284864, no. They are the same as generic wire cutters that cost a couple of bucks.

Jeweller/electrician nippers are designed to cut metal, they will not cut plastic as cleanly as nipper designed to cut plastic.

Also would like to say, those who REEE at the comparison to lego, must have never built lego. Cause they really are the same difficulty. Tedium is not difficulty. Painting / filling / sanding, doesn't take skill, it takes patience. I guess if you're a drooling ADHD autist, you might find it difficult. But if you really want to test your skills, try building a balsa rc airplane, because there you really need to know what you're doing, or it won't fly. There is no snap fit, there is no picture book instructions, just a couple sheets of balsa, a blue print, and an exacto and CA glue to put it all together with.

Yes. The red ones are the middle-of-the-line option for those too cheap for the real thing. They're basically the same as any other brand's nipper offerings, it's not worth it unless you REALLY like God Hand.

If you're concerned about clear parts, get God Hand's resin nippers. Clear plastic and resin handle being cut the same way (compress as you cut, so the last bit is the most resistant; this is why more frail nippers can chip). Good luck building a full kit with this though, it's a hefty tool.

That's an understatement. I have not probably been driven nuts by LA kits more than any other. They're just not meant for snapping, the strength of the pegs are fucking shit and will fall apart if breathed on. pick a config you like, and glue everything down. Trying to leave them loose for modularity only leads to madness.

If you crack a clear piece you will never get rid of the crack (at least not with conventional tools and chemicals), so don't force anything anywhere. Same goes for any kind of plastic stress: once the clear piece goes white from stress, it will never go clear again.

Nubs on clear kits require very fine grits to properly sand. At bare minimum you should have at least 3000 grit, but going all the way up to 10,000 and then using a polishing compound on top of that isn't unexpected. God Hand has a set of very high grits you can use.

There was this useful video on Youtube where a JP guy built a clear RG Sazabi and showed off how ridiculous sanding could be, but unfortunately it's been privated. Main thing of note is that he went (arguably) overkill and progressive sanded all the way from 400 grit to 10000 + polishing compound. It's a marvel he didn't go insane.

As far as I know, God Hand is the only brand offering actual specialty cutters like the resin parts nipper or their metal wire nipper. If the cost is too much, then just don't bother with the specialty stuff and get regular nippers. As long as it's around the $10-$20 price range, it's probably not a fancy nipper that could chip if you try to cut something too thick. You'll have to spend more time trimming the nubs with a knife, but that's the tradeoff. Specialty tools cost more money but save you time.

From personal experience (sanding nubs on clear canopies) I can say that sanding with both sides of Wave polishing stick followed by progressive polishing compounds is enough to restore the original transparency. I tried >3000 grit sandpaper multiple times and never found it useful.

Posted in the last thread about the Leopard Destroy, thanks again for the suggestions fellas. Bought some plaplate the other day and watched a couple videos, trying to figure out exactly how much work I want to do on him, with the elbows/knees being remade being the bare minimum. In the meantime, I finally got hold of a Double X and it's nice to have a complete squad from one of my favorite Gundam series. I'm gonna start work on Double X today and get him looking fancy.

I pretty much started getting into Gundam by the time 00 was airing and then grew up with AGE, so yeah.

If the whole thing peeled, your primer is trash so into the trash it goes.

The rest is salvageable but to be honest spraying tiny plastic pieces from a can is not as easy as from an airbrush, which is why I abandoned my cans pretty quickly and then later decanted them for airbrush use.

Yes, airbrush setup is more expensive but if you are serious about painting it is the way to go. Painting with cans is a different skill and you will use a lot of paint before you get decent at it, so it won't be cheap in the end either.

Could I get some advice on this? I'm trying to find a way to fit the feet onto the legs and I'm having trouble figuring out a good solution. I originally just left a polycap sandwiched in a wad of putty harden inside the leg so that I could stick a piece of runner into it as a peg that'd connect into a hole I made on the foot connection piece, but the hardened putty idea was a bust since it turned out really flimsy and the polycap easily gets pushed out of it and just rattles around the inside of the leg.
What's a reliable fix? I feel like this is probably a simple matter to fix but I'm just too inexperienced with doing anything more than seam wielding and painting to know what I'm doing.

Funnily enough the only thing that was holding me back from getting it was the stupid moon funnels. Every time I saw it I stopped looking when I saw them cuz I just assumed it was another Nu variant. Once I saw the kit w/o the funnels I realized I really liked the design and details.

I've always been more of a grunt MS fan, most Gundams aren't my thing.

I'm not aware of any other injection plastic kits like those. I think your best bet would be to kitbash Space Battleship Yamato or 1/700 real-world navy ship kits with something like Wave's G-Tank parts and Bandai's Builder Parts (like their vernier parts). or just scratch-build similar mods.

Its obviously over the top and exaggerated in just the right way to not be a parody, while also kind of making fun of, and showing gratitude to the super diehard gundam nerds who know everything about the series probably better than the creators themselves. How often do model kits get reprinted?
I assumed the RG Evas were out of print because Kotobukiya seems to be doing 2.0/3.0 kits of their own, but I also see RG Evas (and the apparently terrible PG Eva) for pre-order implying they are still being produced.
Because I really want a Kotobukiya Jehuty kit but they are way overpriced.

And you need replacement filters to be changed out regularly, it's not a one-time purchase. If you can smell any paint while wearing the mask, the filter's fuckin done and you're no longer protected.
