pretty much just the same as you. at my last place I had a shelf with no back that was near a window with lots of sun so I could see some cool light piping, but I worried about that doing some UV damage and yellowing parts so I'm happier with my current setup.

It's not a misprint, the set that part comes from was still manufactured in 2006 so they changed the color. Same with the pearl gold Kraahkan.

Densely packed on multiple shelves.

The first years actually don't look half bad like this, though as sets got bigger, more complex and more dyanmic it very quickly becomes a shitshow. Even the Toa Nuva are kind of messy to pack like this. And yeah they do fit tighter together with their arms up.

Yeah, that's the problem I'm having. You can see in my pic (the one you replied to) that the Mata/Nuva are neatly displayed, but the stuff from the later years towards the bottom are a bit of a jumbled mess and you can hardly see the ones that aren't in the very front. It's kind of hard to find a good balance between efficiently using the space while also effectively displaying the models.

so far I have mine on a couple shelves from the figures I could get back together from my old tub that I finally opened after so many years
unfortunately I'm missing all of my Mata aside from a handful of pieces and weapons, the heads of my Inika, weapons of half of my Piraka, and quite a few bits to my Inika, Nocturn, Hahli Mahri, and Iruini's shield
if I can find the rest of my missing pieces, this shelf is gonna get a lot more cramped
got a new rahkshi coming in the afternoon though :3

There were some janky parts to them. M Pohatu's low shoulders, M Tahus super long shins, M Onua being a total pinhead-manlet, U Lewa's fucking arms, etc, but fuck me those sets look consistently good otherwise. When done right CCBS sets blow 05-09 Bionicle sets out of the water

Yeah, I liked G2 as well. I also tried to make some headcanon explaination for some things in G2 that apparently people actually liked, last time I posted some of them.

Here’s some of them, it’s a two-parter, so I’ll have to split them up:

>I kind of have a headcanon (that I still need to write down all the details of, if I stop being lazy) that Umarak is actually some sort of evolved Creature of Shadow. Because there were Creatures for all the Elements, including Light. Plus his animal-like features, including digitigrade legs and antlers, sort of support this.

>And if you want to go even further, maybe it can be implied that Makuta was the Toa of Shadow, since Ekimu was later confirmed to have been transformed into G2’s Toa of Light temporarily, and that when Umarak tried to use Makuta’s former Mask of Control and was turned into Umarak the Destoryer, maybe it was like some sort of pseudo-Toa-Creature unification, like the other Toa and Elemental Creatures do. Since Makuta couldn’t physically be in that realm of existence, just his old mask, which perhaps had some of his spiritual essence still attached to it, and with Makuta apparently still being a powerful force, that was enough for it to count as a Toa-Creature unification. As well as Makuta later basically absorbing Umarak the Destoryer into his being, to be able to try and enter the physical world again.

Part 2 of that headcanon thing:

Because Shadow can literally be everywhere, thus allowing him to have a much more imposing form. On the flip side, Agil is the Elemental Creature of Light, and even compared to the other Creatures, he’s rather small. But this could be due to the fact that even in total darkness (Shadow) a single source of light can be seen from miles away. Plus Agil was one of the first to leave lasting damage to Umarak the Destoryer, when he scratched at one of his eyes and left that scar.

I think a lot of people disregard the Piraka and Inika now, purely because we had so many Inika builds from 07-09 after, but for the time in 2006 these sets were mind-blowing compared to everything before. 01-03 were all walking bricks and 05 was a monumental disappointment to everything before it. Now you had these frankly intimidating and super posable figures with a whole miriad of new parts that were exceptionally easy to build with. Looking back on them now, the fact they're all such carbon copies of one another is a bit redundant, especially when every Mahri and Glatorian works with all the parts so much better, but at the time I didn't care they were clones because they were incredible. Bionicle stuck with me for so long because of the Inika especially.

Here we go again. Piraka, yes. Inika had some variety, particularly in forearms, chest armor, feet, weapon placement, and shoulder armor placement. If that's considered clone sets, then so are the Metru. Tired of this repeatedly debunked meme. And before you say nuh-uh

The Visorak aren’t the most exciting things ever but they’re definitely better than the Vahki at least. On color and build variety alone I’d put them above the kal and maybe even the Rahkshi too (as a group at least, the individual Rahkshi build is obviously superior)

Then your judgment is too shortsighted. Lego has always welcomed fan interaction with their official contests, which were happening long before this rampant fan canonization became a thing. Even Slizers had fan submitted official content and there were multitudes of other official contests during G1 that had set the precedent for fan-organized contests. Lego is still encouraging fan input via Ideas, which has sparked similar attention-seeking attitudes from all corners of the Lego community, not just from Bonkle fans. Different colors vary in structural integrity, depending on how they're cooked or whatever; it's why lime joints in 2007-11 were such shit, because they tried to cut corners in the piece-making process and it manifested itself most visibly in lime pieces. The barraki were the most distinct and unique canister sets ever. First time to see sets with completely different body designs, each barraki had very clear motifs of the creature it was based on, and first time (if not only time) a canister set had posable waist (Pridak). The squid launchers were finicky but the concept was sick as fuck and looked cool stored. Even the canisters being trans blue were awesome, with the back label being removed to show the barraki under water w/ the bubble effects.

And takadox just having no business being that well fucking designed. The glow in the dark pieces, the red spikes, the fucking flawless mantis design...perfect.

Greg is kind of an edgy fuck who doesn't like to get out of his writing comfort zone and challenge himself. His ex-wife told him that one of his early novels was the worst book she ever read because it was miserable and everyone died at the end. Greg likes to be shocking for the sake of it, he likes pulling twists and turns out of his bum because he considers planning out plots in advance to be boring.
Sometimes Greg does manage to give sensible writing advice, like saying that characters should remain true to themselves and not be forced to do uncharacteristic things. But thing is, he was guilty of doing this a lot, especially when writing MNOG characters.

See, it would be sensible for her to be a character made out to be Vortixx if she were something like a combiner set from 05/06 but instead she was conceived of in book only.

The reason I say this would work is only because you could argue this IF she were constructed and done so with the Roodaka head construction and some alteration to include the more "mechanized" look on her:

it doesn't make sense now because using that model in hindsight would have just turned her into a giant as big as Roodaka and that would have been less sensible in story where she was dodging toa that were her height whereas Fatdaka easily just sits on them in order to win.

It really is dumb to have world where almost every single character has its own unique race. Instead of having like 10 species with deep structure we have 200 with little or no information about them. It makes the whole world then look like some faggy dnd party where bunch of edgelords have their own special half-breed character.

Lariska situation is especially dumb because it's like: " Ah yes this is my fictional waifu and she's definitely not an elf. I know she is tall, well-dressed has pointy ears, and acts like a self-righteous bitch all the time just like the elves but that doesn't make her an elf. She is my own special waifu and therefore she is of her own species.". Also, Lariska has much more character traits with Roodaka than being a girl - treacherous, keeps an abusive attitude to almost every other character (which is of of the main trait of the Vortixx species in general).

Are they? Treachery with an abusive attitude is a rare combo only Roodaka and Lariska have. Treacherous villains like Takadox, Ahkmou, Metus, Thok, or Nidhiki usually acted sneakily and very rarely abusive towards anyone (if ever). Nidhiki even preferred to be dominated by Lariska rather than work with Krekka. On the other hand, the abusive/dominant characters like for example 99% of the Makuta were zealots for their cause or for example too stupid for treachery like Carapar. Brutaka was abusive, but he was pretty open about his treason, he wasn't plotting stuff behind someone's back like the other traitors.
Only Lariska and Roodaka were treacherous and dominant at the same time. Maybe also the Piraka were like that, but in their case they were pretty much open about their mutual loathing.

I think the lore is that pretty much all of the MU's inhabitants were made by the great beings before Mata Nui was actually finished. Anyone that came after that was made by Mata Nui himself somehow.
I think Greg also said the Turaga could create new matoran if they deemed it necessary.
Most of the major characters are around the same age, yes. The Toa Mata, the Makuta, the Barraki, Takua and many more are all pre-Mata Nui's launch.

Thank you. The KK armours are some of my favourites but they're quite tricky to use effectively. I'd love to one day combine parts from Bionicle/HF/Knights/Galidor and make a cohesive composit character.

I think you can do the Mata Gear trick for the spear arm, but not sure about the shield one. Try a brand new pin, the old one may be worn down

update: I tried the arm out with a few blue axlepins instead just to test, some of them had the same amount of friction as the actual piece (quickly drooping down to his hip), while others had no friction whatsoever. I also tried the arm on one of my Toa Metru, and the same happened there. Maybe it's the gearbox's pinhole that's worn down? or maybe it was always this bad? I don't know anymore mang...

You can also have a ball joint on the axle and a y-joint connecting to the top axle hole on the bottom for a tighter fit. Though this probably looks better.

I scavenged the black pins from the incomplete Exo-Toa I got and built them with frictionless light gray ones instead. Those are only used structurally on that set, not for any moving parts, so the friction doesn’t really matter.

Yeah the red one is pretty slim, so she gets smaller hands. The white one is a bit tougher and gets bigger hands, though I might remove the slopes again, not sure yet. The majority of them will get the bigger hands, normally I use the small ones for my Matoran.

Y’know as long as they have a neck and waist joint, using Mata and Agori limbs work out quite well for Matoran sized guys. I’ve always tried to avoid those pieces but they actually have a lot of charm to them.
