I'm working on a mild Makuta/Takutanuva revamp, should I keep the Avohkii hands or give him working peengors? I'm trying to keep it visually faithful to the original set instead of a "reimagining", I just dunno which would look better.
tried experimenting and stealing a few different hand designs, but they all kinda suck desu and this's the best one I decided on

Saw this posted in the last thread, I occasionally find Metru-style mocs like pic related built with Slizers/Roboriders heads in place of the gearbox, but I've no idea how it's actually constructed. Anybody possibly have instructions to a moc that uses this? Sorry for being a retard, I'm bad at dissecting mocs.

Don't sweat it, anon. Even with limited angles, you pretty much nailed it. Here's a back view of the middle variant.
As for the other two, and breakdown images, the majority of them are of early WIPs that may not reflect the current states of the mocs, and would also require some amount of digging on my part to scrounge up.

I've never considered this until now. I just associate the "blue" of the Ce-Toa with Metru or Mata blue. But I really like the idea of this.

never been a fan of the Avohkii hands. Re-using masks and the like as armor is normally fine by me (I'm genuinely impressed that Maxilos's shoulders look as good as they do with such a stupidly specialized mold) but the Avohkii's shape is way too iconic to not immediately recognize and it's made worse since that set is usually contrasted with Takanuva. Never quite liked it. (happy it gave us a third recolor of that mask in its first year though)

The common reasoning behind these three Varians being Medium Blue is actually quite funny. The story she appears in, "No One Gets Left Behind" by Shadow-Nui, is (if you couldn't tell by the fact that it was not written by Greg Farshtey) a canonized fan work. It, and another canonized fan story, "Decadence" by Dorek, are unique in Bionicle canon as being the only two stories that refer to the color blue as "Azure".
As you might know, azure in recent years has joined the ranks of dark reds and pearl golds of Lego's official colors, and as fate would have it, the color TLG has decided upon for the typical "azure" is uncannily close to Medium Blue.
Truly, an insane exercise in needless semantics. But what could possibly be more in the spirit of Bionicle?

Hey, thanks a bunch for the help guys. A bit disconcerting to me though that the Slizer heads are basically only attached to the center construction via the upper ball socket for the neck; any ideas for maybe what one might do if they wanted to use something like a Glatorian neck piece or an axle or the like for the neck, instead of a socket?
I'm tryin to experiment and it's a bit of a pain, since the Slizer heads' axles have a 2-wide empty space between them, while the technic beam is straight in the middle of that. Not many Technic connectors I can think of personally that are off-center like the ball sockets are.

Also yeah >>9416023, I couldn't find the source pics whatsoever. I did find a TTV thread with some (I assume) ESL guy that connected it using a System piece, because apparently the bottom half of the Slizer heads have antistuds, pic related. I don't wanna do that myself though, I'd rather a Technic connection so that it's more secure and stable. I just searched up "Metru with Slizer heads" and I found the thread, if you want a look yourself, bro(s). [toyler]No idea what you two are talking about with eachother tho[/toyler]

I think the reason Bionicle dreams seem to be more common is that they have the most memorable product imagery out of pretty much every toy. With stuff like Lego System everything's just in a box or some other generic packaging. But with Bionicle you have rows of neatly arranged canisters in 6 different colors taking up a whole section of a shelf. It's not really comparable to anything else and that's probably why it sticks out in people's minds so much.

I think it has just as much to do with the fact that Bionicle went on for almost a solid decade, which is pretty amazing for something aimed at a young, constantly changing consumer base. Buying Bonks was a major part of many people's formative years, from their childhood to teenage years. And thanks to the marketing materials, the continuous story, online fan discussions and old memories of visiting stores, the older sets would be on people's minds as well long after they had gone out of production. Collecting, selling and trading Bionicle sets and pieces also used to be relatively manageable compared to some other toy brands, so many fans held onto the idea that they could amass a complete collection eventually. Then this thing that people were so attached to suddenly went away, leaving them with a massive "gap" in their hobbies, their lives. Lots of kids grew up in a world where Bionicle was a constant, with new sets on shelves every few months, and its discontinuation left a huge mark. It's no wonder many folks still subconsciously cling to it.

Weirdly when I did have dreams like that it was never an actual toy store, it was always like a flea market or a yard sale that had some bionks for sale. I think it's because I bought Gali Nuva at a yard sale in like 2005 because it was one of the only canister sets I missed as a kid and that just permanently associated "sets I missed" with "yard sales" in my brain, even though that was literally the only bionicle I ever bought at a yard sale like that.

Lately I've been getting Bionicle dream-esque dreams about CRTs and it's annoying. My current CRT is kind of crapping out and it's like my brain is taunting me to go buy a PVM for 2000$ about it.

Let's talk personal headcanons in spite of lore, because official lore has plenty wrong with it. For me, I totally disregard the notion of altered mask designs. Examples being Norik and Iruini. I like the whole 'great and noble version' dynamic, but it's dumb to say that kanohi can be made to look like literally any other mask.
Another headcanon in regards to scaling: Mata Toa and Metru Matoran are the proper scale when next to an Agori and Glatorian. I like to think the Toa were closer to the Agori, imagining them being the same size as the Glatorian always seemed off to me. I know the toys got bigger as the years went on, but I like the idea of the Agori being the standard, Matoran being smaller, Toa a little bigger, and Glatorian being giant warriors. Since they have mask and elemental powers, the Toa make up for the smaller size. What about you guys? Unload your ideas.

Funnily enough, this was the backstory of 1 of my MOCs. She basically worked as an assassin/mercenary for both the OoMN and DHs depending on who paid more, but her gimmick was basically she took the masks of her victims and reforged them to look the same, so she could swap masks on the fly and get the jump on her enemies since all her masks looked alike, but had very different powers.

I have bionicle dreams about once every 3 months or so, they're always about the same.

Either I:

a. Stumble into a lego store / toys r us and FREAK OUT over finding an aisle with the original toa, mask packs, and the like. It's always dirt cheap too.

b. I outright find lego / bionicle pieces on the floor. For some reason, in the dream, I know I am dreaming, but STILL try to hold on to it tight enough to ensure I can bring it back to the real world somehow. I wake up dissapointed everytime

Why not, as I said multiple times on here, couldn't a constest for these characters still commence, but the prize is just a set or a mask or something? Why can't there be multiple winners? Why does it have to be only on their forum? Why pester Greg with this shit after so long? No amount of preemptively disregarding naysayers as jealous or as trolls will shield TTV from the truth. The truth being that these contests are simply ruining what little interaction we have amongst each other, making everyone bicker and argue over why or why not, yes it is, no it isn't, etc. The amount of salt everyone has been flinging at one another is disgusting. I can't even wear a veneer and play nice with these people anymore because all I see now are those same arrogant, obtuse, narcissistic attitudes I have come to despise in the community over the years. The elitism doesn't just exist among the bigger moccists and e-celebs, it runs through the vast majority of the fandom as a whole, and I'm drowning in it whenever I even take a cursory glance at anything Bionicle these days.

Sort of interesting to think about, since the most anatomy we’ve seen of Toa and Matoran, from what I remember, in official material, were the Miramax/Creative Capers diagram of what part of Toa and Matoran, in their versions, would be skeletal structure, armor, and muscle, and technical things, like joints and such.

Other than those, MNOG tried to implement a sort of elemental combat system for the final Tohunga-Rahi fighting mini game, but it didn't amount to much because players usually just attack mindlessly and many of the planned Rahi mentioned in the dialogue boxes don't even appear in the game.

There isn't really rock paper scissors going on the the Bionicle universe. The elements don't strictly counter each other in that sort of way, actual elemental interactions behave in pretty much a realistic fashion like you'd expect.

Of course the games are going to turn it into pokemon because why wouldn't you if you're a game dev and you need to come up with gameplay.

To elaborate: I was just remembering reading somewhere that Gali was weak to heat because it boiled water, Po-Matoran and Pohatu can't swim (well?) because they sink like stones, etc. Maybe this was retconned later, but I remember either reading it in the books or comics.
I was just wondering if there was a compiled list of these traits (especially for the secondary elements like Psionics, Plasma, Gravity, etc.) between the elemental assignments of characters somewhere for easy access to compare between them and see how they interact, but I could only find examples of what happens when two Toa combine Fire and Air to make a fire tornado or some shit.

This kind of thing is still canon. BS01 has each Element's 'weaknesses' listed on the individual element's page. It's pretty self explanatory stuff, like Onu-Matoran don't like bright light, Ko-Matoran hate the heat and Po-Matoran have trouble swimming.

no, because the glued part will still be the weakest point of the socket and putting the ball in will just cause it to break right open again. I have seen a video showing a different technique where you brush thing layers of glue on the inside of the socket to provide structural support, but I haven't tried it myself yet.
