Lego needs some proper sliding shafts for technic.

I was thinking of doing a geared locomotive, like a Shay, and I stumbled on that problem. I see some MOCs using offset pivot points for the wheels/engine connection - they pivot along with the UV joints, and thus don't need sliding shafts. That solution may look nice (it's certainly compact), but it's very fragile.

On the other hand, the common 2x 4185 solution with axles is way too big. I've tried shock absorbers (731c06) without the springs, but the connections are still not ideal, plus the black part is made of soft material. Maybe with CV ball connections instead of axle holes and a harder material it would be better.

Maybe I'm just being a lego boomer or something I dunno, I'm kind of dabbling in lego again after almost 20 years and all these new bricks are dumb. Fuck fleshies though.

I picked up some of the 1500 piece classic boxes at Walmart a couple of weeks ago at $29.99 each. They were 50% off. Normally $59.99. As a seasoned builder and collector a deal like this is decent and better then anything else you'll get new full priced. To collect bulk, buy used. I miss the blue tubs for $19.99 because they would go on sale at K-Mart for $14.99. I'd buy at least 1 or 2 a week. It was like a deduction out of my weekly paycheck. I think I bought this more recent set just to buy them as they were the best deal going. The other thing is to visit your local LEGO store and maybe the PAB wall has what you want.

The Sonic set is still under Ideas so that's out. Meanwhile I could see them doing a Portal set with a Chell, some turrets, a GLaDOS, and some modular portal walls/floors/ramps/etc. that could be rearranged reusing the Dimensions molds.

Pipe dream would be a SRW set but that shit's never happening.

Can't speak for ebay, but bricklink sellers are usually 100% legit. I once bought a used set where the seller included the inverse of the door that was supposed to be in the set, but he sent a replacement piece for free.

High production costs. Having 3700 elements currently in production, the best quality molds and basically a lifetime warranty is not cheap.

Most toy stores only work on a 20-30% margin wholesale, which is pretty abysmal in the toy industry.

The margins must be really small for individual pieces so they rely on moccers buying in bulk, but even then it must be really hard to offset the already high retail price of lego sets. Are these guys actually wholesalers connected to lego somehow? Or are they just autists that meticulously calculate each set for how much they would be worth if sold as individual pieces and minifigs then buy those in bulk

I got that set. I thought there were too many specific colours without enough parts of each to build much. There are 5 shades of pink/purple for example, 5 shades of green, 4 shades of blue, 4 shades of brown plus dark tan, and 3 shades of yellow (not including gold and orange). Those could easily be 1 shade of each (maybe 2 for green and blue) and the builds wouldn't suffer for it, then you'd have a lot more parts of each colour to build with. The lightest shade of green has literally only 4 pieces.
Also I would rather a basic set had a higher basic brick to specific part ratio, but maybe that's just me. It's not a really bad set I guess, but there's certainly room for improvement. You might consider getting bulk bricks from somewhere else depending on what you're looking for.

You are better off buying a creator set with a solid theme than a rainbow barf box. They have a castle / pirate ship and some cheap city buildings, almost always available at 20% off.

Given you aren't a literal child, pick some colors or a theme that you'd like to build with. There are some 1200+ pc boxes for $40 which is great for filler, but has no direction.

I'm biased but would go for the 20% off creator castle to start.

Just for shits and giggles I checked the reviews on Lego's homepage and it seems like the sub 4-star reviews report the same problem.
I dicked around some more with the set to figure out how to fix the front some more and basically rearranged some parts so the quarter circle tiles from the tail now secure the joint sections from the sides, pretty much removing the problem completely.
So yeah, fuck you, whoever designed the original model.

Looking back on these sets, they always had more of a celebrity/wealthy feeling to them. Fancy places to eat, pools, sailboats, horse riding, eternal summer, it's basically what the fantasy of being rich was like back then.

I tried thinking of some African-based architecture set ideas but the problem is they were all Egyptian (Great Pyramid of Giza, Abu Simbel, the Sphinx, etc). Much of the landmarks in non-egyptian Africa are agricultural such as the various jungles and badlands spread across the continent, which doesn't really lend itself to a theme called "Architecture".

The horse feeding girl and the lute guy can be used as civilians to fill up a lego setting though, I will probably try getting them after getting the ones you just listed but usually the blindbags get discontinued faster than regular lego sets and the current minifigure series is barely available anywhere else I've looked, even in my local Lego store

I saw that video where she was almost in tears about filming in a LEGO store and they asked her to stop. At any point an employee can ask you not to record video or even take a picture. Most malls actually used to have signage at the entrances that said video strictly prohibited on these premises. I know some stores still have it posted because at my local Target it's clearly marked. Not sure why but if that's the rules... That's the rules. I do think she's a bit over the top most of the time and has a boatload of cash to spend most days. Would love to see her earn it the old fashioned way. Then see how much she could afford.

You know, this double VIP points weekend made me realize there were very little sets that I actually wanted right now. Most of them only have one specific object or minifigure I want, but the Bookstore's design seems great for street/city building. PROS:

CONS:
>The OOB build leaves a gap for clearance between the nose and the cab section that doesn't exist on the IRL prototype. It's an easy fix that has a few vids on youtube explaining how to get rid of (I recommend Jang's vid since it covers a few other fixes that you may/may not want)

If you do decide to get it and want to make some freight cars for it I'd recommend looking at the freight cars used by the SBB in the 20s/30s when the Crocodiles were being built. Primarily freight cars in greys and browns, though you can cheat a bit and use dark greens/dark red too.

Does the seller specify that they are new or in excellent condition? Then yes, you should expect good condition. If the condition is only marked as "used", then they can be anything between good and yellowed with bite marks.

I don't like it much. They sacrificed proper structures for gimmicky animals. I liked some custom pieces, like Anubis head mask or so but overall sets were far cry from Adventurers Egyptian desert line.

I wasn't originally planning on getting it since I have the RO one, but I found out recently that the AT-ST from Empire is different from the Jedi one. You can see how much taller the head is, plus the eye flaps are down as >>9463481 pointed out. I wonder if the Hoth one was meant to be a variant for winter terrain, or if they just made a different design for the next film for whatever reason. Something about the Hoth one's proportions make it creepier somehow, so I might have to pick up the set.

It was this.
The original first AT-ST model was made as a basic mock-up design, but George Lucas liked the concept enough that he decided to put it in the background of Hoth, which meant the design team had to quickly take the model apart to give it joints so that they could move it for stop motion animation.

When RotJ swung around, George Lucas decided to feature the AT-ST more prominently, so the design team went back an did a full design and build for it, because the last one was just a quick kit-bash.
