I like this a whole hell of a lot better than how it came out painted. I think the idea is more like, here's a prototype-esque figure, as opposed to a DIY, which is why it's Platinum. I kind of wish Platinum releases (as chase figures) plainly didn't exist, but that's just how it is. In other news, I've yet to see a single Platinum figure, though it isn't like I would have actually wanted many of them, I think just All For One.

While smaller companies could probably do better than McFarlane (although with less releases), WB/DC wouldn't give the license to a smaller company as they are a licensor using the figures as a toy aisle billboard for their other entertainment properties, i.e. games, movies, comics.

The only companies I can think of that would be able to give them that toy aisle action figure billboard as far as I am aware are Mattel who just lost the license, McFarlane, Hasbro, Playmates, and maybe Bandai (as I think they still put out some low end cheap stuff that hits the US toy aisle). Bandai is the only one of those I can imagine maybe doing a better job.

I don't think so. It's effecting comics too since Red Hood got rid of his guns in universe as well recently. So it's not just limited to toys. I think the closest comparison we can see to this is when Marvel purged the use of smoking in any of their material. No one in Marvel is allowed to be portrayed smoking anymore. This becomes kind of an issue for characters like Wolverine who are known to smoke cigars.

It's easier getting a press pass than professional and SDCC became very stringent at least 7 years ago. So in order to get a professional pass you either need to work in the industry (toys, comics, books, art, cartoons, movies, films, etc like me) or you need to be a friend with a professional (read: know an insider). Professionals can only get in if they produced work for the year they apply.
I still get a normal pass every year though, because in order to increase the chance to get into SDCC, you had to have gone last year and professionals don't get that if they stopped doing sdcc-related work or can't get credited work (freelancers working for VGs get fucked a lot of times).
SDCC is my favorite comic con, so i don't like to chance it, especially since acquaintances don't always go. Other conventions don't have as many toys and have also been pretty lenient on credentials too.
