I've been on /tg/ since around 2010. /tg/ has about 3 people that can paint, one of whom stopped posting there because people kept trying to ask her out after she got a job at forgeworld. The rest are newfags who paint exactly as described by the company approved youtube channel and wish they could be flame miniatures or one of the actual good painters on there. This is also a really mediocre set. There's no highlight layer on anything here. The robes on the Astropath are a flat colour with a wash added on, there's next to no spot colour usage or contrasting colours anywhere on anything, making them all bland, and there's a shitload of excess glue spattered around the poorly stuck together "conversion" that refuses to use plasticard bolts anywhere to make the detail-free void that is the back of the cockpit look convincing.
Like seriously even the most basic GW youtube tutorial tells you that you need to at least try to highlight your vehicles with drybrushing or edge highlighting, or god forbid sponge application. Like god damn bro there are brush streaks on the tube the guy roughly slapped together into a landing pad.

Also just because I'm feeling extra spiteful, GW and miniature painters in general aren't very good at gunpla and vice versa, because people try to apply likewise techniques to different kits, and it doesn't work out. Scale model and military dudes also do miniatures way better than wargamers so ???

I've been trying to buy certain kits that I feel I can fit into different Gundam universes. There's a few that work for Wing; the Blazing obviously for G, and a few that seem to work pretty well for UC timeline. I really like the Target exclusive American Gundam, with it's stars and stripes stickers, and simple build. I've been using them as my own alternate universe where Sleggar Law wasn't killed and instead became a Gundam pilot with his own unit, just dabbing on Zeon and making Bright watch while he fucks Mirai.

Is this normal? Every other paint don't do this unless i start rubbing it with cotton q tip hard

And you can barely tell without the reflection from light pointing there is something there

As I have use gold before I can only assume this is either normal or I did something wrong somewhere

Every time you're building colour on a miniature, you need to build in tones akin to the way animators do ti, at least when you're assembly lining shit. This means for 90% of people, especially /wip/ users, you basecoat, wash, and highlight, and ideally glaze to bring colours. This guy didn't do highlights, he washed and called it a day. That's why everything looks drab and without any definition. Even in this Librarian I never actually finished, you can at least get colour depth simply with 4 tones. You absolutely need to do this at this scale because sculpts are intentionally crisp to allow these techniques to make detail pop at such a small size. It's also why these techniques don't work nearly as well on large vehicles or gunpla, because those aren't sculpted to be painted that way.
I haven't finished a mini in like 4 years now but if you think that /wip/ is some collaboration of godlike painters and not just a bunch of dudes desperately trying to get to tabletop ready, you're retarded.

I was interested in some of the Battle Armors and vehicles that appeared in the line, such as the little pack in vehicles some of the mobile suits came with. There's also variations between the Japanese releases and the US versions for some of the mobile suits, and even a few US exclusives.

This eva 02 took a dive off a shelf, the ring connecting the shoulder pylon to the shoulder broke but pretty clean. Is there a certain glue to use? Second gunpla kit ive ever built, want to get better at being crafty and this seems like a super easy fix

A cyanocryalate from most hobby stores will do fine. Something that needs to function as a joint like that probably won't ever return to being that stable, and will probably break again over time. That being said you should just have that kind of superglue on hand in your toolset as a toy person in general, as that stuff is multipurpose and can fix a billion things.

Yeah, i figured the shoulder is brittle enough that shell probably just be static on that arm from now on. I dont pose it too much cause I fucked up building the hips somewhere and theyre always falling out of the pelvis and super loose. Amazing looking kit but I wish I took more time with it, lotsa nubs

Remember you can always disassemble and clean things up after the fact. I find it easiest simply to 100% prep every single part before putting it together, even if I'm not planning to paint, but there's nothing wrong with building something quick and then going back to clean up nubs and the like.

Yea, that's the one, it's lacquer and comes in a 18ml bottle. I bought a bunch of their metallics and honestly pretty impressed by it. Thinned them down by a 1:2 ratio with rapid thinner, pic related are the gold, copper, silver, iron and burnt iron

That was because it was sprayed over a gray primer lol so that's why it's not as shiny as the others. Because initially I wanted the frame to be just a regular grey but since I painted some of with iron as a test, I said fuck it and went with it. Be sure to post your results here later anon

It's not the gray, it's the grainy/glittery look that bothers me.
I actually use gray primer under most darker metallics because black primer makes them too dark.

Thanks anon, for what it's worth. I was looking at the same site the other day. I was hoping that someone out there had made something more comprehensive or in depth. Part of this was me deciding on if I should bother with the Ex Model line or just track down the vehicles and ships from the MSIA line.

My spraying area is pretty poorly lit (read: outside) and I accidentally sealed a bunch of tiny hairs and lint onto some pieces with Tamiya lacquer topcoat. Is there any easy hands-off way to strip them?

I would get close to the end and realize I needed to insert a part like 10 parts ago and have to disassemble almost the whole thing and start over. This happened like 10 times. Meanwhile a friend of mine who is good with puzzles solved it in 20 minutes. Glad I didn't watch a guide on how to build it beforehand though, it was fun figuring it out for myself.

I've been fucking around trying to bulk up Mean Machine's forearms for a while now. I tried slapping different armor parts on there, fins and boosters and shit, I even tried making something out of plaplate (but it looked like garbage). I settled on this fucking thing -I think it's a missile pod but god only knows where from- and I stuck some rocket boosters on there in the hopes that it would look like subwoofers. Either way I'm done fucking with it.

RCN-120 are nice nippers for the purpose (which is cutting resin) but don't expect SPN-120 level of cut from them.
Personally I've been using my SPN-120 on all clear plastic for years without any issues, as long as you don't cut with the tip they are fine.

Get some fine (2000-3000grit) sandpaper and/or pic related and some polishing pastes. Use knife and low-grit sandpaper very judiciosly. Don't use files. The better the nipper cut, the less work after that.

That sounds like a lot more work than just using a glass file. They do wonders on clear parts and don't need any additional steps.

The matte gold stickers look great in some areas and trash on others. If you have the ability you're better off painting it. The back wings are the worst offenders here. It is on par with the Bandai Infinitism kits, which puts it above the standard high grade by a little. Lots of people have complained about the hip joint being overly tight.

These ones suck but at least you can replace them with a third party solution. I bought some off a guy who makes his own reliable ones that turn on and off with magnets, so you don't need to take your kit apart anymore. Just a reminder that if you have junk boxes full of discarded parts and old broken kits, go through them from time to time because you never know what treasures you'll find.

I found these guys spread out over several different boxes. The Gouf is missing his hands and head, but I've got his sword, gun, and whips in my weapons drawer. The Kampfer is about the same; missing hands and head, the clips that keep the shoulders on are gone, and a lot of the little booster rockets are missing, but I had his shotguns and mines-on-a-rope in aforementioned weapons drawer. No idea where his bazooka went.

The Z'gok is missing its torso but everything else is in great condition. That poor fucking Hygogg was actually the second kit I ever put together, and I have no idea what happened to it. His crotch is gone, I found the hands (they're obliterated) and all the fingers (they're perfectly fine), and I have both the legs (but only one foot and none of the toes). I think the head must have gotten smashed in at some point and I tried to fix it, but I don't remember when the fuck that would have happened.

Unless they sell spare heads somewhere I don't think I can fully restore these guys but I might be able to recycle them into something cool.

But Bandai is the second largest toy company in the world (only losing out to Lego), and their Gunpla division has long been about pushing the boundaries of engineering and constantly looking for ways to improve. C6 zaku has a few different parts that can be used. Different left shoulder, different plates for the chest. Colors are pretty much the same for the c5 and c6 zaku 2. The new updated hguc zaku is probably the better way to go if you want something looking closer to the anime versions. Both are nearly identical in articulation but the revive has a little better articulation but not by much. C5 zaku has a few different weapons like the antiship cannon, but the revive just has the mg and bazooka and heat hawk. U think the c5/6 doesnt have the drum mag mg but just the belt fed mg.

I disagree, I prefer the RG. The head is a bit too small and the neck needs a HG ball joint to fix it being too long so I do agree the HG has better head proportions. Overall though the mixing of two different whites colors and the more detailed surface looks better than just plain featureless plastic. HG in general look too plain and need the extra work to add panels and other details. The front skirts and the fin funnuls on the HG nu look bland in particular, overall I want more detail. HGs like the Jesta, Revive Zaku, Beyond Global, and the Moon Gundam I feel are great snapshits, but usually I want more panel lines. There is such a thing as too many panels, but RGs get it just right. When autists start scribbing even more Panels into RGs is when it starts to get out of hand. Also I like decals out the ass.

the issue with the RG is that it lacks any sort of meat at all and the way it handles its panel separation is gross, see: the shoulders and bottom leg bells.
funnily the crotch V being so soft fits pretty well with the kit as the design itself is muddy and lacks any sort of sharpness to it.
just my opinion of course.

Hello. I'm not I haven't build model kits in over a decade, but I recently watched IBO and saw that Barbatauros kit at Target. Can the Barbatauros also be built as a normal Barbatos (without the extra legs). I'm just not sure if they did some changes that throw that off or if it includes the original parts for a more normal build. I'd check Dalong, but he hasn't posted anything about it yet.

Joints and stability are great, I've built three of them now and they're all sturdy and satisfying. Fiftyseven really makes quality products. Dunno what the actual plastic type is, but it feels sturdy and high-quality. Definitely not some cheap nasty feeling plastic like you get in a lot of minipla kits.

I basically can't recommend the line enough. I've dropped a lot of money on this line in the past year, building up a little base and living area for all my bots.

Pretty good, reminded me of Koto a lot, except no Koto joint tightness. The friction is just right.

Plastic appears to be ABS for the inner frame/"core body" and PS for colored bits, hands are PE/PP same as Hexagear governors so you don't have to worry about breaking them when giving her stuff to hold.

Dude, that's actually a two-body pack, and IIRC it comes with twice the amount of walls/columns/scene building parts as well. It's a great deal if you have a lot of spare armor lying around or wanna add on to your base.

Jesus christ that's pretty. I miss chromed parts in kits, it feels like we rarely get them anymore outside of exclusives.

Some of those old kits just feel awesome to this day due to the material and finish choices, like the old 1/100 Epyon with the coated gold parts. I was so disappointed when the MG came with garish bright yellow plastic in place of that. I prefer the proportions on this old kit too.

They always added more life to the kits & gave them a more accurate feel to how I saw them in the show & how one would look in real life in my eyes.

They would get fucked quick tho, due to having a little brother at the time.

I always wanted Epyon, but never was able to buy one or at least one I didn't have to build when I was younger.

I would have loved to own that Epyon. The gold plating is fantastic on it.

speed stix has a good chrome and chromed colors made for painting plastics, should give it a try, an inner frame painted chrome is an amazing detail that can really make a kit pop.
