Off the top of my head, bulky industrialized armor, aggression and a willingness to fight regardless of the odds, a helmet that while enclosing the head still reveals the face, Brawn’s face on the SS figure looks like an original Doom facial sprite, Brawn’s gun looks like a Plasma rifle, large “collar” protecting the neck and beefing up the silhouette, bare “skin” revealed despite the bulky equipment and he also has 5mm ports above the shoulder, to install an equipment launcher.

I could see a scenario where Brawn is put to the test, against a foe that checks his bravado and puts him in the fight for his life.

Plus both are dicks to non-combatants.

naw ron perlman has the german face taken to its extreme. it's similar to some african features but there's more emphasis on big TEETH protruding, and a heavy brow instead of a flat, sloping one.

G1 bumblebee's cartoon model had absolutely hideous proportions, but when animated they usually fixed this. The problem with them is that they made the vehicle parts way too small for an actual transformer figure, and other times they didn't and I look like a true fool.

Does doomguy actually have a car, or is this just a random vehicle mode based on a robot that looks like him?

I prefer the style they’ve gone with for the new crossover figures (except Draculus), where the vehicle is from the crossover but the robot is cybertronian.

Wheeljack and Arcee both used up valuable plastic and space in the waves which could’ve been Gears. Because there is a limited amount of plastic allocated, the mere existence of those two used up some of that allotment.

Unlike HA Leadfoot, Roadbuster comes in his "all weapons deployed" attire. I can't recall who Topspin sides with in this.

Roadbuster comes with all the standard weaponized vehicle bits and bobs. The hood guns, the side missile pods, the second engine in the back that spews fire. The works.

Green Man is a pretty standard Human Alliance guy, this time green flavoured.
It's kinda funny just how who gives a shit these things were. I mean, I don't think his legs are even the same length.

One side of vehicle mode doesnt tab in, shoulders and knees are loose, and it just feels really light and cheap. Studio series WWII Hot Rod felt better quality than this.

Fuck me, what a transformation.

I think Roadbuster is permanently in robot mode now too. I had to flex some plastic to fit onto a peg and now I can't flex them back off.

What a mixed bag this robot mode is.

Good proportions and posture. He has a decent bulky frame and a good heroic stance
Specifically I like his shins and feet and his arms. Maybe if there was one more layer of parts to his chest it would be perfect too.

Roadbusters entire mid section, from his knees to his ribs, is kind of a disaster.
The thighs have these awkward panels floating on the front and wheels sticking off the side.
And his whole belly is just missing. You can disguise a bit but other than the connecting spine stuff there's nothing in there.
And lastly there's his stupid head. With his big dumb hat. He's got little shades you can flip out like Hot Rod but Roadbusters are comedically small, like he's wearing child's sunglasses.

I'm glad I like Roadbuster's standing there doing nothing look so much because posing a major drag.

He's missing too many points of articulation for a toy this complex.
No waist. No thigh swivels. No ankle tilt, No wrists.

He's got two different elbow joints but neither works right?
Shoulders work alright but the two different axis are on two separate joints, so that's awkward too. This toy is just crying for a butterfly joint.
Hips and neck work like they're supposed to.

Weapons of choice are a flamethrower and a chainsaw. That's pretty metal.
These later HA toys kinda phased out the human Alliancing as much as possible. All Green Man gets to do here is loosely sit, not pegged standing, on this piece of car kibble on Roadbuster's back.

Don't get me wrong, the MechFansToys one is probably the objective best representation of the G1 cartoon Gears that we're going to get, I just want Hasbro to redo him since the T30 one had shit distribution, didn't look anything like the cartoon and commands outrageous prices now as probably the single most difficult to get Ark crew member. BB Ratchet is very slightly taller than ER Wheeljack, but yeah he really should be a bit more taller, since his body type is the same as Ironhide and he needs to be tall deluxe height.

BB Wheeljack is also a bit small too, but it’s manageable.

Chest pulls up and arms straighten to form car front.
Backpack folds down/out and rotates to peg into legs with a thin connector.
Legs straighten out, back calf kibble folds up and around backpack connector to peg into upper back.

Not sure why the windscreen of the car had to end up as the back of his calves but okay.

Soundwave is cursed with THE most integral yet esoteric physical feature of any of the cast- that damn tape deck rectangle. The only one that comes close is Starscream with his cockpit chest, but a pointy bit that’s differently colored is pretty easy to incorporate into a flyer. Pretty much EVERY other main character can have a hundred permutations all be recognizable with the head and general color palette.

So our Decepticon Intelligence Officer is pretty much forced to have a big awkward chunk become his chest, severely limiting what forms he can take. And when they ignore this rule, you get stuff like Movie 3 or Prime Soundwave- ones that look cool but don’t feel like the Soundwave everybody wants.

Cybertron Soundwave pulled a new vehicle mode off pretty well while still having the chest rectangle, but he actually had an altmode in mind when he was designed. the BB design has almost nothing to work with kibble-wise, but the robot mode is perfect enough and the altmode looks enough like a generic scifi greeble chunk that I can live with it, even if it's a little disappointing when all the other BB Cybertronian figures have pretty cool altmodes

Not a fan of the face, and those shoulders are a bit too broad for my tastes, but at least they weren't afraid to give her actual hips n' tits this time around. Also, that's a pretty clean and not-overly-obtrusive backpack she's got going there, so it's a plus. I'll wait for the actual physical toy reveal before making a final judgement, though - a lot can still change between the render and the finished product.

I remember (though I could be wrong) reports from the Botcon reveal made it seem Hasbro was proud of how the purple used was so dark to be borderline black in certain light, since Universe was where all the REALISM went in the lines at the time. It's a really lovely shade, and it's a shame every OTHER part of the toy's deco lets it down. I don't even mind the suspender strap look of his chest coming together, but the unpainted grey of it and his face just eats up all the detail, and that his own thighs can't even match up was something that made the hype deflate a bit when the non airbrushed stock photos came out after the initial reveal.

I have to admit I'm very tempted to get Transmutate despite her obviously not being the same look as the show, or even really compatible with it as a concept (they would never have a big weird reassembling dino skeleton thing in teal and gold on beast wars).. if i had any real attachment to the character, I'd probably get her, just to have some version of her.
and I definitely would have gotten the new covert agent ravage, if he'd been a normal price. Some flaws, sure, but it's the guy. and even if he was only in two episodes... he was memorable.

you're probably right, then he'd have a nice thick jaguar altmode. but as it is, it was a clever way to bulk up the cheetor mold
I hope we get a more extensive retool later that uses tigatron as the base, gives him the rear helmet lampshade, and reshapes his feet as proper clawed paws. (But leave the proper realistic beast mode paws the way they are. just tuck these away as robot-mode feet and give them an extra joint so they can hide properly in beast mode. god it's so weird that they didn't do that for cheetor and tigatron)

He kinda had to - he was originally an Action Master, and Sights was his primary weapon/gimmick. Funnily enough, despite now being a pterodactyl, the new Sights has similar engineering to his original toy, and his intended weapon mode is the unadvertised blaster form (fold the wings in, use the handle as the gun barrel, and hold him by the peg under his chin) rather than the axe form the other Battlemasters of his mold typically use as their 'default'.

I have my doubts new Slammer was designed with a tower mode in mind. I think they were just doing the best they could with the fact he's a weaponizer, hence the top antenna being off-center. If you notice, original Slammer divided into two different tower parts, while the new one only forms the one. Neither he nor Siege Sixgun were really designed to incorporate into Generations Metroplex.

Transformers Animated Soundwave

Soundwave's second ever reimaging, I believe.

This boxy techno-van blasting its phat beats must have been a major contributor for the rest of Soundwave's cybertronian modes like FoC and RiD and Cyberverse

To compare against Lockdown from last week, Soundwave is much rounder.
A bit strange to see for a guy that had only ever been a sharp stealth bomber or a literal rectangle to this point.

What he has in common with Lockdown is a lack of doors. This does make the windows wrap all the way around and that looks super cool.
Laserbeak is a bit on the large side this time. So he stows on top instead of inside.

Transformation is a good mix of standard steps and unique moves.

Soundwave becomes one wide boy. He feels hollow for how chunky he is but the weight checks out.
Other than being Animateded his head is the real feature. The combination of the conical shape and the shades is very eye grabbing.

Now that I've done the transformation for the first time in like 10 years I notice two things about the chest.
1) it's harder to get in place than I remember. My fingers forgot the movement.
2) cool how it's specifically designed to prevent scratching on things in vehicle mode. It would be a bummer to see it all scuffed.
Trying to include Laserbeak made taking this picture 3 or 4 times harder than it would have been.

The fact he can play the guitar is the best bit.
He can even play left or right-handed if you choose.
My Soundwave isn't a freak so he plays right-handed.

Posablity is alright, Legs are just balls joints, so they're good. Even have ankle tilts.
Arms are a bit weirder. And by arms I mean shoulders. The can swivel forward and back and roll up and dump but have a hard time doing it in combination.
Neck and waist both swivel.

It's a combination of a design flaw and a missassembly - something about the mold being made wrong, so the bits are asymmetrical and can't line up properly. The heads are deliberately assembled with one half slightly higher than the other because they won't fit together any other way, which leaves that huge ridge down the middle of his helmet. Sadly, this is visible in all pictures of him, even the official ones, so it's likely they're all defective like that.

You have to play with the joints a bit to get good poses, but it's generally much easier than the older combiners and looks great. The only complaint is that Scylla as a leg has issues staying tabbed in (I guess that's show accurate?)
