Nothing seems to be brittle from age which I am shocked about but was stored in airtight box in my shed.

Call me a boomer, nostalgia-goggles, whatever, but it's undeniable that the old, original themes oozes sovl. They might have sold badly, and of course that's the reason lego doesn't do original themes anymore because they sell like shit, but they were actually what Lego was meant to be.

Remember the old instructions that gave you ideas as a kid on other things you could create with your sets? When Lego made sets that could allow kids to be creative?

Now, everything is just statueshit meant to be built once and never taken apart. This is why I hate Lego these days. They went way too hard into pandering to manchildren that are willing to spend $800 on an AT-AT, and it worked, and the rest of us who just want to see some neat figures and original ideas are left behind for licensed disneyshit set #1132232200

I want to go back bros....

Ah, got it. I started out using it for hands, because it provides more detail and articulation. Then I started adding it to limbs or basing limbs of system. I can go with more individual shapes and looks instead of going with repeating Technic solutions, let alone basic limb pieces. Doesn't hurt the asthetics either imo, can be either smooth or greebly.

Given what LEGO has pulled in recent history, it probably would. I too wish that LEGO would be more coherent with designs. Especially since the set you mentioned is only a year old, and it would be awkward looking next to this Chinese set. It takes five seconds for a designer to look at a set and utilize past design cues.

Pirates has been brought back as a theme twice already and both times it sold like garbage. Pirates in general simply aren't relevant anymore since the big Pirate craze of the 00s died down after the original PoTC trilogy.

Western however I think could do with a solid revival. Just do a theme of various wild west town buildings like a bank, a saloon, a sheriff's office, a gold mine, a wild west train, maybe a set with some injuns.

They were all pretty rude and some would even try to sneak into the back to see if there was any about to be put out for sale. Freaking vultures, man.

If you want these themes to return you must stop buying licenced themes and stick to the few remaining original themes like city, ninjago, possibly monkie kid and non licenced creators/idea sets. Only then lego will "get" it.

I bought 4 while on a trip a few months ago. they were ever so slightly damaged and the lego store had them marked down to like $149 and I had to jump on it. they're sitting with the rest of my investment sets, and I'll probably wait at until they're selling for like $350+ NIB. I've found buying huge sets for investments to be a massive pain in the ass. They take up tons of space and often cost $30-$50 to ship which almost noone wants to pay.

I've found myself much preferring to just invest into small, easily shippable things. Minifigures, animals, rare parts like accessories / weapons.

Unless something is an absolutely surefire win like the UCS Slave 1, some of the older modulars, or the Barracuda Bay, I totally avoid them now, and at most buy a single one to sit on for myself. I'm sure it works for some people but my money and time is better spent elsewhere nowadays.

Shit is seriously expensive to ship and requires an even bigger box to fit a sealed one in. After fees and waiting 2-3 years you make like $50-$100 or something which in all honesty is not that much money.

Pretty much that year. That was the year the UCS Millennium Falcon came out, at the time the most expensive and largest lego set ever made, and nothing else came close until the Taj Mahal released a little bit later.

This was a set that retailed for $500. It was retired rather quickly too, meaning the value of the set skyrocketed within a few years to well over $5,000 per set on ebay. This set along with the Creator modular building sets pretty much started the trend of people hoarding lego sets to re-sell at a later time.

I mean, I did it too. I bought a few Cafe Corners and sold them for over $1500 each years ago. I sold all my other earlier Modular city sets as well like green grocer for close to $1k.

I even was lucky enough to sell my original Millennium Falcon UCS kit for over $3.5k back in 2015 before the newer kit came out a few years later, and now the old one is barely worth $1k.

The only thing Lego can do is either re-release the older kits so that the value of hoarder cucks gets destroyed, or just come up with a new version of the same kit that will also really bring down the value of the older one.

Really, it's on Lego. They should re-release some of their older kits from time to time, do a production run and keep them on the market instead of "retiring" them permanently.

I like how Barracuda Bay is both a base and a vehicle. And I like compact sets with lots of features. So, for Space or Aquazone I would build ships that could be converted into a base.

I got this in 2019 and built it during the first 2020 lockdown. It is truly an amazing build, only thing I changed about it is made the sub bigger so the back of it can fit a seated figure.
Wish I had my pics with me, alas, I do not at the moment.
I do agree that what appealed to me as a kid was that a theme gave you a general "setting" and then within that setting you could make your own adventure, your own MOCs, it was more open-ended.
I'll give you a tip - MOCs are the only way back.

Which new version of Mei do you like the best from the upcoming Monkie Kid sets?
I like the city of lanterns version but the white pants print on the torso kind of ruins it for me since it makes non-white legs look severely out of place for any customs.

I just had another 4x6 dark red plate with the 3x4 section of tile in the middle shatter after barely applying pressure taking it off a ARC-170 from 2010 while disassembling it. I was just taking another dark red plate off it and it just cracked with the tiniest amount of pressure. It happened to both parts on the set...

Now I have to buy another one so I can sell this fucking set. I only have 4 of them left in my collection and I need them for 2 other sets I'm gonna sell.

So much for quality, Lego. as I sort through my collection I'm finding more and more brittle blue pieces too. Nearly 1/4 of my blue technic studs are brittle blue. A bunch of 1x2 technic bricks with a single technic hole in the middle are brittle blue. A bunch of my plates are brittle blue. I even have a few sloped bricks that are brittle blue too.

Does this issue of brittle bricks still exist with modern parts?

I think a lot about it is fucking beautiful, but in their effort to make it unique with that wedge shape they kind of fucked up its effectiveness as a hotel and diminished its presence. As pointed out by an anon in a previous thread, there is no reason for it to be shaped like that when the road is 90 degrees.
It's really a shame because I think the shaping, details, and coloration of the main building are really spectacular.
it is another "so close, and yet so far" execution by current year lego.

I think I would've liked it significantly more if the middle floor was the same color as the bottom. so two brown floors and the green top. io think that would've helped a lot. they should've just went full corner building, and dropped the little seating area and art gallery. they they could've fit more shit inside and possibly added more detail to the outside. I also think it overall just looks small, you compare it to the bookshop and police station next to them, and it's shorter than both of them. so you have a 'boutique hotel' that is the same heigh as a townhome connected to a bookshop. I fully agree on the 'so close, yet so far' sentiment.

I had to figure out what set the box in the background was for, and it's 8675: Outdoor Challenger, which is part of their 'outdoor RC' subtheme, which I'd never heard of before. I was even collecting lego in 2006 when it came out, but somehow any memory of these is nonexistent. it actually seems kinda neat. on bricklink there is only a few listed for sale, and they aren't cheap, so it seems pretty uncommon. however it looks like it is made of a unique system of parts so I doubt you could do much with it outside of the intended purpose.

Checked. What's your budget? I recommend 3 in 1 which are among the cheapest and go up to ~$100 USD like the recent medieval castle. 3 in 1 is the mocfag theme because they're good sources for basic pieces, clips and bars but they're usually light on minifigs.

Sets like these are what almost bankrupted Lego. The baseplates were all outsourced to another company, all of the chrome bits costed a fortune to produce, they were overproducing molds past their capabilities and packaging was extremely ornate and expensive with pieces in trays and opening box flaps. They are definitely neat, but between 98-03 Lego was hemorrhaging money and going bankrupt.

Right now we have more pieces, colors, set releases, etc than ever and Lego is producing record profits and is the most successful toy company in the world.

Something had to give and ultimately market demands shaped Lego into what it is today. I do agree though, there is something innately special about old sets that isn't present in new releases. The overall style and quality just isn't the same. There's something incredibly charming and beautiful about that set. But if you had that side by side with the $200 AT-AT or Elsa's Castle, most kids would pick the new release.

Thanks anon. For the damage discount you have to prove that it's the fault of Target which caused the damage. The best way is to target (no pun intended) the more expensive sets which they put the security wraps on. The wrap is tightened manually by the workers and they sometimes tighten it too tight which causes slight damage to the box. Under this circumstance you can get the discount. The more damage, the better discount. Just take it to guest services or ask for a leader at the register you're at and show them the damage and explain that the wrap caused it. You should get 10% at least without much issue. If you're more of a POS you can just manually tighten the wraps and cause the damage yourself then request the discount. No matter the case, it will take a little bit of autism mode to save those extra bucks.

While those things you listed certainly hurt them, those aren't the main reasons lego was hemorrhaging money. During the 90's and 00's lego did not have.

It's preddy good feels sturdy can pick it up by the top fin, front landing gear is average and there's a gap under the cockpit, and not much space as storage.

Annoyingly I found for a couple of bucks cheaper at a different store but had I gone there I probably would have got the bad batch set instead even with the bad batch ship looking worse.

I understand these points, but as a consumer I feel it's natural for me to lament the loss of quality.
Like you said, the sets had more work put into them, and that's what made them good. I have no doubt Lego could improve standards in a lot of areas now without much risk in the way of going bankrupt.
In any case, that's why I buy/get old sets and mostly ignore new sets, it just isn't the same.

The set itself that was redesigned by Lego uses the half-long tan pins while the original Ideas submission used blue stud-pins which don't hit the black brick between the Technic wheel and the grey dial.

when i worked at a lego store we sometimes had resellers come in and buy sets that were discounted in bulk. one guy would open the packages in the store and just take the bags home with him and leave the boxes and instructions for us to throw away. we also had this one guy who would make purchases at different checkouts to get as many GWPs as possible on multiple days of the week. when we told him that we couldnt give him any more he tried it again at a different cashiers checkout. these resellers werent exactly straight up rude but often kinda weird and disrespectful

here it is in landed mode (wings down) with the pilot climbing in. The cockpit isn't a typical "fighter jet" cockpit, more of a "the pilot gets plugged into the ship" cockpit, which is the reason for the strange helmet
