It's funny how this is phrased as if "Toa" was some specific mythical beast, rather than the title given to the heroes of the story. I know there were stages of development where the Toa were basically elemental spirits with much less of a human-like personality, but this goes a few steps further in that direction.

Any good fan sites for sharing mocs? Bzp and Ttv seem a little too toxic, the former hasn't even been accessible for months now due to technical issues. Would Eurobricks be worth it? How do you REALLY know if a canister is unopened and new? How would you know if some guy carefully opened it and replaced the stickers? Bricklink is the better option honestly. You used to be able to get lots of parts or masks pre reboot for cheap on EBay, but it's all very much overpriced now. Which now that I think about it, I'm not sure if joining Gab would be considered a sin by MoD or not, since it's been labelled a haven for the alt right in some spheres due to it's free speech leanings. I'd like to use both sites, but I'm almost positive someone would make a stink about Gab down the line.

Bricklink sellers tend to be less casual collectors of Lego, more in the know of proper treatment of parts. Not every seller is perfect, but most are decent. You also have the "easy buy" option which lets you wishlist parts, then gives you the cheapest combination of shops in order to get your desired items. To the other issue, I just want a site to boost my reach, so i might judt go with MoD since I don't have any other incriminating social media.

Even parted out used, with the cost of masks alone most sets will be more than ten bucks, I assure you. Maybe twenty if you're getting the canister. Honestly, the sets are so old anyways, sealed doesn't really mean much anymore at this point.

The thing about Gab is that the Twitterazis tend to make the stink about it because they want it to be taken down rather than have actual merit to their arguments.

One of the advantages you do have is that they have access to people that have profiles like Skeb or commission profiles that you can reach out to if Twitter isn't an option, and/or you can even consider Minds.com where there are also people posting MOCs and even a group there as well.

The plastic, sealed or not, is twenty years old more or less. Not to mention the pieces undoubtedly already bumped into each other enough in the container to produce some level of surface scratches. Spending 100 or so dollars on an item that's only.in marginally better shape than the used option seems lime it's not really worth it. But you do you.

On the contrary, with a sealed set at least you can be 100% sure that those pieces have been touched by nothing but other pieces since the factory, which makes me and most feel better rather than a piece that has passed through the greasy palms of 9 year olds for a over a decade

Idk if I didn’t explain it well enough or if you didn’t listen to me but I only have the perspective of a fan from the first few years, basically just the matanui arc. I’ve heard a lot of people complain not just about the sets but also the story arc as well, and I figured I’d ask since there are a lot of people here that know the entire franchise inside and out.

I'll bite. Most people don't like 05 story wise for being edgy, but unlike 06 where it continues the story and raised stakes, it way extremely status quo. In the end of 04 we already knew the Toa Metru make it to Mata Nui with the Matoran. So going into 05 we already knew how things would end. Then when it came to the sets, the Toa for the first time were 100% identical builds. The Visorak and Titans were pretty good however, and the combiners were also pretty sweet. But the clone Toa, without proper masks, and then the Rahaga reusing Rahkshi head and staff pieces, made the heroes of the year seem below average to most. I personally loved 05 though. Making Hordika versions of various Rahi and Matoran was fun for me. Yes, Rhotuka were lame as collectibles, but I enjoyed the function.

The Tia hordika do seem like a step down from the Toa metru, but I think the visorak themselves are pretty cool, they seem like a hybrid between the bohrok and the rahi aesthetic. The little tiny guys did look really boring though. We’re the small rahkshi head guys mutated Matoran? I’ve always felt like instead of pumping out subpar “new sets” lego should have scaled it back sometimes and just made a new part tub or something with recolored unique parts so people could at least make their own stuff. I guess legos strategy though was they always needed to have a impulse purchase line of sub 5.00 sets for some reason even if they sucked that year.

Just to add to this real quick I feel like Lego could have made a lot of money doing a yearly reprint of things like toa tools, bohrok shields, masks, etc in different colors, it would have been free money I’d think but our world is too cursed to allow something that based. In my mind I imagine something like a 19.99 set where you’d get a handful or random masks, and there would be things like Lewas axe in few colors, kopakas shield in various colors, toa mata bodies in lime green and purple and stuff, I feel like they already had the molds and they had the dye and all they needed to do was just mix them. If nothing else it could have been a collectors Lego club thing even they felt compelled to charge more for it.

No, they were small BECAUSE that was their mutated form. They were all about the size of the two you see in the image, Iruini and Norik, until they got mutated by Roodaka. They're back to that form now though, and they're searching for the toa mahri now. We didn't know what they originally looked like, but they've held contests over the years to come up with their designs, and got Greg Farshtey's seal of approval to make them canon now.

Turns out the Inika failed or never came to be. The corruption is caused by Makuta's Kraata/Shadow Leeches. His plans require someone with the element of Shadow, but he is not willing to put himself at risk. Some of the bosses are members of the Order of Mata Nui who are trying to prevent the corrupted bonkles from completing Makuta's plan. One ending has the player die and restoring life to the GSR but with Makuta in control. The other has the player fleeing to the outside with the Mask of Life so that Makuta will not get his way.

Yeah I used some red hooks and a red gali mask to make a red Gali recently. I think the red hooks are from a creature set but I don’t remember. Sometimes Lego is retarded because I feel like it would have been cheaper to just revolve parts (which they did anyway in some sets) and to just make a box centered around that concept. would have been a Nice metru set if they did it with some of the masks.

yes, there are a number of parts that originated with bionicle that lego still uses in the current sets. this wing piece from mistika for example has been made in many different colors in countless sets from as recent as this year.

Because it was a filler arc - Lego wanted to squeeze one more year out of 2004's setting since they spent so much on assets for advertisements and such, so story-wise it doesnt really need to be there and doesn't add much, like the Bohrok-Kal arc in early 2003.

Personally, I adore both 2005 and the Bohrok-Kal story because I just find them fun and fucking hilarious too. As "filler," they got way more wacky and out there with their ideas, and at times it's so easy to take the story from a comedic point of view - it's inherently funny. Like, 2005's main villains are an extremely gullible, cowardly pompous [king of the spiders] and his dominatrix viceroy who wants to fucking murder him, that's great.
Or the Bohrok-Kal arc, where the villains are OC donut Bohrok with gigantic egos as a direct result of their donut nature, but they're fucking idiots and canonically run around the island in a wild goose chase for a while, and the Toa defeat them by specifically manipulating their donut-fueled egos, all for us to be treated to the most elaborate and gruesome deaths yet - and then the Toa and the Bahrag just awkwardly stare at eachother for a bit, both comtemplating the Kal's utter stupidity. I find that hilarious

I found all the Bionicles I had since childhood. The last time I messed around with them was probably a decade ago. I remember some asshole stole a lot of masks from me and I damaged and lost a few too. I barely have enough to rebuild the main Toa besides 3. I'm missing a lot of limbs for some reason.

To add to what >>9647349 said, it also had the issue of having a plot that was JUST compact enough that you could watch the movie and you'd get the feeling you've experienced the entire arc, but would still miss out on all the shit going on during it.
Factoring in comics and books (personally I think 2005 was a decent year for Greg. He doesn't fully go off rails til 2006) the story is pretty enjoyable. It's got this whole vibe of the Toa Metru/Hordika trying to survive in what is from their perspective a post-apocalyptic environment filled with spiders, with Vakama in particular kinda gradually having a mental breakdown since before they're even mutated and eventually becoming something of a rogue agent in their ranks.
The movie summarizes the whole arc but without the pacing it just becomes this weird episode where they come back to the city, immediately get their asses kicked and mutated, Vakama immediately becomes a villain, Vakama immediately becomes a hero again, and then they go on their merry way without any real repercussions to the overall plot.

This is a problem with the films in general. The arcs and premises would work better as a cartoon than an hour long film. In theory, a cartoon would be better because you could showcase more of the products that Lego is trying to sell. After all, isn't the whole point of a show, game or comic based on a toyline meant to usually sell you on that toyline to some degree?

Case in point. When I found out there was a massive arc before the majority of the Metru Nui film picks up, I was annoyed. Sure if I go read the comics or the books it'll not be that much of an improvement, but it shows the characters doing badass things and earning the title of toa, which makes the scene of them being forced on the run have more impact. All that work to do the right thing, only to get cucked last minute by some bullshit over an arbitrary test designed to purposefully screw them up.

So I noticed all my Kongu Inika feet are cracked at the toe piston. Thought it was because of the marveling, but then I found picks of bacially every color of the mold having the same crack. At least it's not structurally ruining it, but still. Shit sucks, man.
