Bros, I made a list (pic related) of sets that I could buy for my birthday but I have no idea which ones should I choose, which one do you think is good?

I can't buy both the castle and pirate ship together, I try to keep it to 1 set. Or 2 sets IF they are not expensive. I want a good building experience.

I'm not sure how this works anon but those sets vary quite wildly. Trains are cool but I'd go for the slightly more expensive cargo one, I'd skip the city space sets imho they look shit and the 3in1 rover looked better. I'd skip the Ninjago set because it's ninjago and looks generic. I'm not a fan of the brand brick-built sail and the castle isn't very impressive.

I'd say train, try for the cargo one but regardless you can mow down crowds of minidolls or make a carridge to carry them the the concentration camp.

When I sold the 10179 Falcon I had, it was right before rumors of the new one came out and the guy who bought it immediately tried to return it upon hearing news and then tried to relist and sell it immediately after getting it.

People who pay several times over msrp for a set are asking to get hurt. Lego re-releases stuff that gets too popular.

Personally, I just think Metroid is extremely overrated. If Samus was a dude, it wouldn't have nearly the massive fanbase it does. The designs are dull and only Super and Fusion were really good

This was so fucking ugly but I wanted it cus it was like $30 and the figs. Missed out on it, but got the better figs from Lego Dimensions. Now we get a DeLorean that actually looks correct so that's awesome.

As for the anon who said figs in a non scale vehicle is souless I gotta agree, but you can always sell the figs and keep the set for parts or display. The Ecto-1 should have honestly come with figs tho. At least a ghost or slimer or something.

I recently modified my Super Robo with additional pieces and seeing how you said mechs are cringe, I'mma post it to spite you some more.

aside from that, I might have to buy another super robot set to replace the shoulder ball joints with what it originally had.
plus they were on sale for $7.99 nearly 3 dollars off at Target!

This obviously looks very inaccurate compared to the new one, but I would argue it has more soul. It feels like proper Lego stylization, which is cute and comfy and feels like perfect pixel art. OP pic may be a thousand times more advanced, but it has only a fraction of the charm of this cheap one.

Leaker Anon here.

In about a week's time a couple photos will drop of 75331, Geonosis Petranaki Arena. It will have 28 mini figures and about 4700 pieces.

Minifigures include; C3PO, RD-D2, Padme (new), Anakin (new), Obi Wan (new), Jango Fett (new), Mace Windu, Shaak Ti, Kit Fisto (new), Plo Koon, Young Boba (new), Count Dooku (new), Poggle the Lesser (new), Nute Gunray (new), 3 Geonosians with wings (2 variations), 2 Super Battle Droids, 1 Droideka (new) and 8 geonosis battle droids (1 of which has C3PO's head).

It will feature 3 towers to which Padme, Anakin and Obi Wan are chained to, 3 brick built animals; acklay, nexus, and reek and 1 new custom molded animal, the mongworst.

The main structure is in 3 pieces connected by technic pins. Behind the arena is a droid factory that has 2 conveyor belts that work with a hand crank as well as a small catacombs area. The towers are separate from this built and are a separate build.

I don't understand why people think modern Lego is "soulless" (beyond stubborn nostalgia). Of course some of the themes/sets suck but that's nothing new, and the plethora of new parts we've gotten in the last decade have expanded creative possibilities exponentially. I like it, nice for Lego to revive an obscure theme from the 90s. Same we'll never get another spiritual successor since most original themes are integrated into Lego city or Ninjago.
As for the original theme, I miss the most.
Probably Monster Fighters.
I like the designs of the monsters and it's steampunk style. Hidden side came close, but only focused on ghosts and for zoomers. What else can I say, I like horror themes.

Bionicle, vikings, and power miners were all some great themes.

While adventurers were from before the period, got to put in Orient Expedition as well. Wish they would do a theme of location based adventure again with minimal vehicles.

Don't know if I would make it Adventure specifically, if designing a theme I would be tempted to do a 'trapped on an alien planet' kind of thing. Pit the heros against stuff like animal/plant hybrids.
The goal of the heros would be to fix the stargate they arrived through. Stargate would be the big set of the theme.

If it HAD to be adventure that would be tough. Either something inspired by the 'Oak Island' scam or a greek mythology themed set. Just imagine a Minotaur labyrinth set for Johnny Thunder to navigate with moving walls and secret passages.

Those are really neat changes. I don't care that much about added articulation, but as a super robot anime nerd that head bothered me, so I just used the included pieces to make it more accurate to how a super robot should look. It also gave me the chance to make the wing lights disappear and add a chest gem for more classic mecha goodness.

I love the pre made wings. I just don't have the creativity to make my own wings from bricks. It'd also weigh down the mech.

Speaking of which, I made the final modifications. Changed the ankles for more stability and more fluid rockers. I also gave it a waste swivel, New crotch piece, and made the tail even longer. I'm satisfied with it now, and it's definitely my favorite mech at the moment

I believe these old raised baseplates were colored via something called aqueous printing.

Basically, there is a thin layer of paint / print on top of water, and then the item is dipped into it to apply. You can see this done with high end things like helmets or car parts.

Basically, this was dipped upside down.

Thanks for the heads up. I am a collector and will be bidding on this, I have at least one of every raised baseplate. For example, picrel is oddly rare and I didn't know it existed for a good while.

If it is dipped sideways it gives a chance for air to escape. Note that there would be an air pocket in the middle gap / crater of the standard dip as well.

If anyone knows for certain just how these plates were printed or created, please do chime in. Baseplates were created from subcontracted companies /out of house for a long time much like monorail track, so there is less information about in general.

It is indeed a different mold! Even the rare Dark Forest Fortress baseplate has the raised mound on the far corner.

If you are patient, you can find many of the more common raised baseplates for about $15-30. Some of the rarer ones like the pirate ramps will be more like $40-50, but I still don't think that's too bad considering they're 20+ years old and that would only buy you a pittance of a set at MSRP.

I just got a pstd flashback to being a kid spending a night building the Time Cruisers ship and falling down the stairs whooshing it around and dropping it shattering it.

That and a giant red baron plane thst took a long time to build that my asshole cat tipped over. It fucked me up so much my current cat is now disciplined to not jump on anything he isn't allowed which honestly feels like a miracle.

I got my first fucked up part, I just got the 60297 stuntz bike, one of the shoulder pads is half melted, also pretty funny as I was one of the guys a few threads back that said I hadn't, in 20+ years of building Lego, ever had a set with missing or damaged parts

yo I remember this from the bonus level in lego Star Wars. If I remember correctly the police station from around this same era is also in the level and I think one of the earlier creator houses was too.
