They're going out of their way to add pointless parts to mimic g1 kibble now, rather than focusing on a tanky looking tank, a minimal kibble jet, and a decent robot.

I said the titans return toy had a better overall designed jet mode than legacy.
And then I said that it was less g1 accurate. So depending on what you mean when you say "better" it could go either way.

But I specifically said the more G1 centric legacy is NOT the better design.

I've not seen much much positive said about it, but when I realised I could give these two a faux abcrunch by mistransforming them, I grew to really like them. They aren't without issues, the amount of translucent plastic is obnoxious and the side panels at the front of the car that form the side of the legs are as terrible as everyone says.

I really don't notice those traits in hand. The arm kibble rarely gets in the way, the bigger issue is it being connected to the hands.

Nah, it's mostly just people from the 3rd party threads.
Happens every time a new figure that improves on 90% of the previous ones come out.
It causes the market for their third party "more accurate" figures to shrink and they get mad.
A lot of 3rd party buyers justify the cost because of it's relatively high resale value.

It's more like a combination of general burn out and Hasbro releasing the same characters, slightly more accurate to the cartoon. At this point most people have a full collection, AND Siege raised the bar on articulation, so standards are overall higher if you've been collecting the past few years.

Legacy just seems backwards so far. Articulation is still there, but some figures look weird, other have gotten figures before, and a few have bizarre choices on them like the shoulders on Optimus and Blitzwing.

I find it SO very difficult to accept that the company responsible for TF Prime's Deluxe Vehicons literally folding half their altmode into their own seamless leg cavity would purposely stick half a faux jet canopy out the front of a $50 figure with no alternatives.

I believe it, I just have trouble accepting what a step backwards some of the engineering choices were on this figure, in the name of some back-asswards recreation of the toy/toon kibble. Like how the little fake shoulder wings aren't even used in any of the alt modes. It's a waste of parts count.

Transformers Robots in Disguise Omega Prime

There aren't many other combinations in Transformers quite this involved.
Omega Prime feels like an earned reward for the task of getting a hold of both Prime and Magnus. He's damned impressive.
And handsome.

He's be more handsome if his eyes weren't completely dead for the light up gimmick.
I forgot to mention yesterday but RiD Ultra Magnus has some of the best electronics I've seen in a toy.
There's a default noise when you press the button, a different blaster sound depending on which side of his gun he's shooting with, and another sound if he's using both at once.
Then each one of those gets swapped out for yet more phrases and blaster sounds when combined.
It's the sort of context sensitivity Sentai and Rider toys wouldn't get until years later.

Other than that he keeps are of Prime's basic mode articulation, trading forward arm movement for thumbs and fingers.
Wild to me that this toy has functioning ankles.

Lined up like that I think Legacy has the best robot mode and TR is my favourite for vehicle modes, even if I'm not fond of the way the wings fold around the back of the tank.

It uses the shoulders, chest sides, head, and weapons from g1
the jet mode is sorta mig inspired, but with boosters on it, so that's KINDA G1, but let's be honest, it was pretty much it's own thing and no blitzwing before or since has looked like that.

Magnus makes a lot of sacrifices for Omega Prime, but ultimately it is an impressive piece. Its probably not intentional, but it's almost poetic that Magnus is this rigid, Early Brave/G1 feeling figure, while Fire Convoy is this really sleek and modern articulated one with Beast era asymmetry and curvy lines . Together they make a balanced robot, keeping Fire Convoy's ornate design with God Magnus' blockiness. Almost feels like a predecessor for the big Super Optimus designs of the UT

That's just what Generations was doing until Hasbro realized if they made toys more accurate to a source material, instead of just recognizable as a character, they could get consumers to double or triple on characters they already bought

That didn't really happen until Earthrise.
the whole prime wars trilogies were just modern takes on the old gimmicks, but they definitely threw out any hope of being "source accurate"
Siege started to come around but still had very different alt modes like soundwave, starscream, shockwave, and then of course the weaponizers

I feel like we have different winners in different catagories. For example, I like how T30's Plane mode is straight up a Super-VF1 Valk and I don't mind the tank mode (although I don't really think any of them have great tank modes) But I'd put the bot mode at the bottom, mostly for the legs, they just don't work for me.

TR's probably got the best overall, but Legacy has a lot less kibble on it's bot mode and maybe just edges out the TR there, but that faux cockpit on Tank mode and the absolute mess that is Plane mode... yeah I know G1 and Original toy and all that, but even the Plane mode on the original toy looks better than Legacy, somehow.
I guess after TR's threw the Tank mode under the bus (because AT LEAST one form must be on all triple changes and/or combiners, it is the law) they decided it was Plane modes turn?

you know I took a good look over wolfang and cybershark and I think I can pass comfortably. I want a barely-changed remake of them, but with better proportions and better handling of the weapons.
Ideally the wolf back should help form pauldrons with the wolf head-halves, so they're not just these creepy hollow shapes.. and then what's left can become a smaller, more reasonable shield (though yes I am aware tower/riot shields are more effective) and yknow, let the tail transform into a betterlooking gun, stuff like that.
and cybershark needs only for the head-missile idea to be rethought, and turn into some better weapons.. the tail knife is probably just about fine as it is.. then tweak up the part of the torso that the head pops off of, and you're golden.
