I just like the sets, I currently have the shrimp shack, shrimp boat, cemetery, the hidden side,the beach buggy, and 2x of the train and am waiting for stuff to make matching carriages. I don't give a fuck about the app but I like the semi spooky town asthetics.

Also planning on making a biker gang pad. And a gun store. I'm kinda sad I wasn't being a lego nerd when it was on shelves.

I love that they tried to make them a base, but am really sad they had to waste so much of the parts budget on four small vehicles. Imagine if they had one small vehicle and doubled the large transparent panel count or something. A bigger space gas station is cooler than 3 space gokarts.

The "conflict in every box" mantra is mostly a curse when it detracts from the main set you are trying to design.

Do you got a semi/truck/bus to go with your biker gang? Are they just bikers or post apocalyptic raiders? Because if the latter, the hidden side bus is really cool and I'd use any excuse I could to buy one and mod it up mad max style to go with your bikers.

I'm honesty not a fan of the vehicles, I'm getting the stunt truck with the trike and the dragster but that's solely for the torso. I'm pretty oldschool and I have only really warmed to 6 wide things so the 8+ wide things are a hard sell. I might either make or buy the old Ford truck and model a hotrod for the biker gang or the small service station. I also might make the car from the old OP in a minifig usable nature to go with pic related. Next lego order will have more of the Newbury Squids varsity jackets. Also plan on lengthening the shrimp boat 4 studs so I can have a lt Dan in a wheelchair on it.

Out of all the classic castle stuff, why is it that the 2 Dark Forest sets are some of the most expensive / sought after? There's nothing particularly special about either set yet they are going for $500 / $250 used for the Fortress / Stronghold respectively. More expensive than the vast majority of far larger classic castle sets which are much better and have many more minifigs.

Reading up some more, these sets were not featured in European catalogues, but were nevertheless available at some shops in Europe.

This period after 1995 lego started screwing up
themes some released in amercia but not in europe and vice versa , Also design was suffering and some themes where half assed like dark forest is only 3 sets. in one theme un , one set was released in europe and rest in usa

Yeah, especially the early to late 2000's had the most egregious examples.

Massively underpriced creator sets, the Titan XP 4508 had almost 800 parts and was $50 bucks, the giant dark red T-rex dino was $30.

The most egregious underpriced examples as far as production costs go were the 'Inventor' line, they had highly complicated electronics, such as picrel which has a motor, battery box, self contained gearbox, custom monkey tail, string... it was not cheap to make, and the "play and record" grasshopper was not a cheap thing to produce either (like imagine a mindstorm set costing $50).

Restructuring to remain solvent is well and all, but I wish we could find a good medium between the charming vintage lego and the small piece overproduced modern era. It's a hard balance to keep logistically when trying to shoo profit hungry shareholders away I'm sure.

Lego has always been an expensive toy but I feel like it always costs ~25% more than I'd like to pay. I assume parents have always felt this way.

That looks like a really good castle era, I hope the new castle coming up doesn't suck. It's definitely possible to make a vintage inspired set appeal to a general audience rather than just being nostalgia bait.

Huge sets with alternate models and above average piece count, it'd be like if today's creator 3 in 1's cost 33-40% less MSRP, they felt like a steal even at the time. I can definitely see how LEGO is making more money now, and losing money back then.

I unironically miss the design philosophies of the sets at that time. Inventor was a weird mini-line, I wish they did more with it.

Personally I do not want to see studs when building something like the DeLorean or a Star Wars helmet. The Scout Trooper looks the best because it has the fewest studs showing. Something like Boba Fett reminds me of Chia Pet shit. I get how people would hate on the flowers like, and I haven't gotten any of them, but in more impressed that they look like real flowers by using all kinds of odd and unsuual choices for pieces. I feel like that's hitting back with classic Lego where a bunch of shapes can create something if you take a step back to look at it. It's more in line with imagination. Imagine that they are real flowers.

I liken it to a curator in a museum maybe? They have done nothing to own / earn what they display, and did not design anything from scratch, but at least they are willing to share / show what they have a passion for and are knowledgeable about it to boot. They have bought instructions for custom builds and actually built rendered designs with real bricks, that takes dedication from a superfan.

Being born into generational wealth is pure luck, but they don't throw it in your face from what I've seen. Gloating is different than showing. If I was in their position, I'd probably have similar LEGO buying habits but would be too lazy to upload and edit videos.

I'm a poor dipshit living in a crapshack that is happy to own some nostalgiabait from my childhood, and I am cool with that. I am thankful for whoever takes time and effort to upload pictures or videos of their stuff, whether it be vintage collections or MOCs (noone needs pictures of a recently released set box on your carpet though).

It is, in general, very fun to look at people's lego collections and creations. Even if no one responds directly, it's worth more than a text shitpost.

How come Lego Friends is the only Lego theme in which we can actually get sets with substantial buildings that aren't just paper thin facades?
This shit's gotten 10 times worse with the recent introduction of road plates, too. And while I personally like the idea of them, they should be something that's encouraged to be a side purchase that can be added onto the main set. Right now they just eat up the budget of most city sets.

Developed in early 90's but made their way into production for the 1997 UFO theme, the stingray cruiser, and ogels underwater base.

The upper and lower 10x10 panels of UFO sets are the same dimension as the big transparent quarter panels from space sets. Those parts are hard to use, but hugely satisfying if you can make it work.

The coolest lego parts I own are either gigantic transparent panels or colorful raised baseplates, I miss both dearly.

really loved the Designer sets. pic related was my first then the airplane one, the three robots set, i DONT remember if i got anything else before getting the Titan XP set, the best Mech Lego has released and perhaps where mech robot builds peaked and we never got anything like that ever again...
well accept for Zane's legacy titan mech, but eh, never REALLY got into ninjago, so i dont see myself getting it just for the mech (remember that set gives you 2 henchmen minifigs and a golden ninjago character for you to collect)

but basically, [spoiler:lit] think what 'Interstellar' did except he does it multiple times, for... some reason and Emperor Zurg is himself in the far future preventing the timeskip. don't know if you'll consider that kino, but i much preferred if Buzz and Zurg were completely separate characters, and made the story more adventurous while figuring out a way to take his space colony back home, instead of this "this is our home now" timeskip thing.
