They're supposed to be things that wouldn't work as regular retail releases in smaller sizes.
TR overlord was great, and there's no reason to think a commander class wouldn't do him justice.

Also, technically Black Zarak was the tallest g1 decepticon, he just wouldn't be without his horns.

Yeah, no massive backpack, using the actual cab for the chest, wrist hinges for sword poses. If it weren't for his size and the panels on his arms he'd be perfect. They should have just recycled his transformation like did with earthrise Starscream.

Of all 3 attempts at G2 Prime, Legacy is the worst:

-RTS: Tried a new look and transformation, has tons of articulations. Weird attempt at a new sword, but it's not awful. Basically, the toy has it's niche.
TR: Triple changer, bitching sword, shitty articulation caused by TR's stupid voyager pop up collar gimmick. Still has it's own niche and it actually looks the closest to G2 Prime out of the attempts.
-Legacy: Half assed trailer (expected), includes an awful axe thing, sword is pathetic, awful shoulder articulation, wrong legs, horrible transformation. This one was expected to be the successor to the G2 Prime mold after WFC did really good figures for plenty of G1 characters, and it fails spectacularly at that.

Essentially the torso has a needlessly complex transformation when the original had a braindead transformation. It wouldn't bother people too much, but it also suffers from proportion problems like ER Prime while also reusing ER Prime's. Many would rather it have a simple transformation if it ended up close to the original in appearance, but with more articulation.

Also that same needlessly complex transformation keeps the massive cab backpack of the original without the excuse of being stuffed with electronics and ends with the arms just sticking out the back as kibble in truck mode instead of just being fuel tanks like in the original and RTS.

I'd hazard a guess to say that it was to justify the price point since they ditched most of the trailer gimmicks that the original release had (disc firing launcher and air pump propelled missiles) and got rid of the actual "laser" gimmick for Laser Prime.

It's just the natural ebb and flow of Transformers toys. Look back in history, we'll do good for a while and then have a dark period of trash. Then it'll start to get good again and the cycle begins anew. Legacy just means I'll save a lot of money over the next few years. Which is frankly a good thing, the Earthrise/Siege/Kingdom combo was really taking a hard toll on my wallet.

Nearly all the legacy toys look like the best each character has ever had. Only Prime and maybe Blitzswing are mixed bags. And Bulkhead and Arcee look weird but their molds are stellar.

Most of this stuff is “WaterTransformers” concepts, which to be honest, I’m kind of skeptical of being viable as non-extremely rapidly rusting and degrading toys, if they were actually played with as intended. Though I guess actual kids probably care less about that stuff compared to the immediate actual playability and enjoyment of the toys.

Well what happened was he complained about Cyclonus being released in toy colors and said "They should only release the cool colors for the character and then repaint it as a new character" and then used the three Galvatrons as his main example.
Not that he gave examples of a character he'd want the Galvatron mold to be used for. It's just weird. overcomplexity is such a tragedy, i'm reminded of the non-motorized Zoids line that has dominated the franchise for the last decade or so, reimagining them as more gundamesque posable model kits at the Perfect Grade level. Just a billion tiny parts. yet they have not succeeded in preserving the proportions and shapes that made the original fun little motorized kits work. they all look just weird.

These SS proportions look like shit. This makes me long for the coolness of the original ROTF Sideways. I still maintain that if they had cast his torso in black instead of that cheap-looking red, he would have been one of the slickest looking figures in the entire line. His polished gunmetal paintjob, complex headlights, detailed head, and cool clear pink parts already had him at a visual 9.5/10. It's just that fuckin unpainted bright red torso that cheapens the design.

His altmode was also perfection. Really sleek, minimal panel line division, and many of the ones that ARE there actually make sense. The detailing on the back window looks great too, and helps conceal the robot parts underneath.

This figure was really underappreciated and misunderstood due to its odd leg design (which many mistook for plantigrade legs with strange tiny feet). It's supposed to be digitigrade, with the wheels forming the heels and the frontal bit people mistook for feet forming the toes.

Red Cog apparently just comes in a normal box with all the guns in tissue at the back (the SS hot rod repack did the same with it's blast effects and accesories). Weird.

remember when the econauts were all whining about anything being made of paper or cardboard because ohnoes trees, we don't understand the life cycle of trees.. so they preferred everything to be plastic

The weird thing is that not all of them do it, so it's strange when you have figures like the BB SS toys having the guns up front so you don't toss them, while these guns are all in wrapped in tissue. In the old packing they'd be on the plastic tray so there's no way you'd lose them.
