One of my favorite design constraints is trying to use large unwieldy pieces that are hard to integrate. That's the point, working with restrictions and limits garners creative uses.

I know people like to be hyper detailed and use very small curves / tiles to streamline stuff, but I am a sucker for some 90's style chunky building.

If you can make big and/or ugly pieces look like they fit, I am a huge fan of that. Big pieces = bad is the same train of thought that gave us silly price to part ratio calculations.

(Raised baseplates are cool as hell)

Build a simple gate house first and move on from there. Steal someone else's design and modify it as a way to experiment with an architectural style instead of jumping all in. Stealing is legitimately a great way to start out learning and developing your own methods.

If you have a lego store nearby the best way I like to start a build is to pick a theme and then the magic part, go and pickabrick a bunch of parts that speak to you and challenge yourself to use those as a core part, like maybe they've got a facet piece that would tell you "Build something with bevelled corners"

So last weekend I went to my gf's niece's 5th birthday party. I brought her a stuntz set (60299). When the niece and her 7 y.o. sister first saw it they said 'eww, lego'. A little later they opened it and we helped them build it. I think the kids are a little retarded because they needed guidance through every step but maybe it's because they're females. When they started playing with the bikes they had great fun and were laughing constantly. I've never seen them have so much fun and they have every girl toy imaginable and an actual playground in their backyard with swings, slides and a trampoline. It lasted only 30 minutes because they brought the bikes out to the playground, launched them down the slide and some sand got inside the flywheel and the wheel wouldn't move at all. I tried cleaning it by blowing inside really hard and forcibly moving the wheel but even after 5 minutes of doing so the wheel was still hardly keeping momentum. I guess the moral is, don't let kids play with the stuntz bikes outside. I think the stuntz sets are the best playsets lego has ever made, too bad the new wave is so expensive.

Contact lego for a replacement bike on the website. Go to replacement parts and then broken piece. The whole thing is free you just need to wait for it to come in the mail. Send it to your niece's address. I had the same thing happen with my nephew when he tried to jump his over a bowl of water. We let it dry for a few days and nothing. I took it apart with a screwdriver. And it slightly worked but it would lose velocity at weird intervals. I needed to constantly baby it after every other use of it. The motorcycle was broken and so we got a replacement

Unfortunately no. This was around Christmas time. And naturally my nephew kept both bikes. The broken one is just for posing now. It's quite easy to take apart and put back together if you have the right tiny screwdriver. IIRC there is like a metal wheel inside and a gear of sorts. that is revved up by the wheels you see on the outside. There isn't anything complicated inside but opening it may have caused further issues. It is possible there was some sort of factory tightness to the mechanism that was compromised by unscrewing it. So I wouldn't recommend it unless you are having a persistent issue over several days

it was about 2 years ago, they were waiting in my closet for the right time to build them but shit happend and I needed money.

I called it the Coelacanth Carrier. The tan technic liftarm landing gear use a technic worm gear to ratchet upwards.

It fits the small rover / buggy in the back, along with the Atlantis shark and squid warrior to pilot.

I felt like both the atlantis creatures and the green canopies of the hydronauts were underdeveloped / underutilized.

My only doubt here is that an 18+ XMen set would have a lot of minifigures, and the Daily Bugle was able to have that many because a lot of them were reuse from regular Spider-Man sets.

But maybe they’d do a few new ones and release a complementary X-Men minifigure blind bag wave like they did with the Simpsons.

Was looking forward to this and am not disappoint.

The only issues that stand out to me are that I think pic releated in orange would have been a better choice for van Gogh's hair and I would have preferred if the minifig scale version of the painting was on a standard 3x4 tile instead of the modified tile they used, which would have made it easier to use in MOCs as a regular painting on a wall. But those are minor complaints.

Yeah it is. Although we have gotten a whole slew of musical instruments over the years.
I opened my music accesoiries box recently and forgot just how many horns and guitars, mics harmonicas I actually have.

I bet if Vidiyo was more city-ish or friends-ish in terms of sets with more grounded locations and vehicles.
(tourbus, concession stand, merch booth, big stadium/podium) But kept the exact same kooky minifigs it'd be WAY more well received.
I'm a sucker for garishly coloured hair and skintones so I was all for it. The albumcover tiles were also way more useable and general appeal than for example nexo shields.

But the porta-boxes, while kind of a neat concept like the slizers ships you put on your belt, were just too expensive. The boxed cmfs a dealbreaker for people too. The app I'm guessing noone cared about.

If they just made the aforementioned sets with maybe a cheap Lego karaoke app or videogame it would've been WAY more fun.

It's two parts. the transparent red cones apparently are to give color to the light in the white brick.
I haven't seen the light and sound working, but it's cool how if you tap the piece, you can hear the metallic reverb from all the mechanisms inside

These are done plain jane like creator sets to give the lowest price per piece ratio possible. No special parts made for these particular sets, no instructions and only a few reused prints and stickers.

The only part of them you couldn't just order from lego directly today over bricks and pieces is the box and stickers.

Resell. 10000 units is a stupidly small amount on a global scale and past price activity for every single one of these bricklink sets shows a huge price gain. It's also a beautiful set that I think will gather even more hype down the line. I set an alarm for 4:45 am and had it payed and processed within 30 seconds of the release. Chink shit aside (Both mould king and the prototypes they chose) I've heard bad things about their QJ from youtube reviews (The electronics are somehow even worse than Lego's stuff). I just got a cool idea that I might add to the stage once I actually build it. So at every Kiss concert there's a big curtain hanging infront of the stage that drops when the concert begins. I thought about how I could do this in lego.
Picrel is how I want to do it. Basically there's two axles. One attached to the top of the stage and another on the curtain itself. The curtain get's hung up on the thread reel but is only attached with a loop connceted to one stud with a round tile on top. If I then over turn the top axle the curtain will (in theory) fall down.

Whatbi do is place the piece that needs a sticker on the orange Lego tool thingy. Just so I have something sturdy to hold and away from the rest of my fingers because I have fat hands (lel). Then I apply the sticker with my other hand. I know some peeps and model builders choose tweezers and such. This would keep you from putting your finger oils on the stickers and surfaces but personally I don't mind. Also I first check the size of the piece and the size of the sticker newe the surface. I try to align to to the center as best I can or align it as best as I can to where it should go. I placedown a corner and rotate it/shift it if I need to. Then I apply the nearest second corner for stability. If both corners don't look good I'll pull it up and do it again. Once I'm 90% satisfied with the placement (cus really you'll always think "I placed it wrong" and never reach 100%) I slide my finger across it in one swoop, pop it 9ffnrhr tool and apply it to the set. 99% of the time this works for me.

Also forgot maybe wash your hands before working with the Lego or just wipe down the surface to where the sticker will go. This helps to avoid finger prints from see through stickers or seeing small fibers/hairs. Just have fun with it too.

I use the edge of a box cutter and put the edge of the sticker on it, then I line up one side and slide it down from left to right. No air bubbles or oils between the surfaces

The one thing I'm struggling with is how to replace the pillar... I made another pillar in the Fright Knights style based off the Traitor Transport but then I realized it's stupid because the pillar doesn't make any sense as an object. So I'm trying to figure out something thin and vertical that can fill that space. It's tricky because of the wheels on the right-hand side. Maybe I'll try to make a microscale version of the Night Lord's castle, like a miniature model of it...

Sorry for CAD I am going to order all these bricks once I've figured out what I need.

It's more expensive. I made a part list of the castle from round 1 and some retard sold the sticker sheet for 90€. Then you have to take into account that normalfags are retarded and don't know how to order the parts themselves.

If I leave out these stickers I'm at 240€ compared to the 150€ it cost when it got funded.

Unless you didn't notice, piece cost for the designer program sets is under 10 cents. For sets with large pieces, they're some of the cheapest, most detailed sets Lego has made available.

As such, they part out for 2-3 times retail cost. If you tried to piece together the Studgate Train Station, you'd be spending over $1000 and wouldn't even have the box for it.

People saw how much round 1 appreciated in value and fueled their buying on speculation.

What's in a good build to you? Any recent pics of sets you liked?

Not sarcasm, a lot of sets I find monotonous to build, like anything with massive symmetrical sub-assemblies. I didn't buy it, but the idea globe looked miserable to build, and obviously anything that is pixel art.

I like technic things but sometimes but they literally hurt my hands and after I learned how a transmission worked (and after I built one wrong and destroyed my hands undoing progress) I was sort of turned off the most complex ones.

Things like the blacksmith and most modulars are asymmetrical and have interesting building techniques. Which, speaking of, I really like the new hotel, I should buy that while there are some gift with purchase promos active

Well it depends what you're trying to do. If you have modulars in your city you can just put them on a plate and call it a day but if you want to really attach them MILS is the way to go. Since it's a brick and a plate high you can also build into it which gives a lot of depth to it.

I'm guessing budget restraints. I just looked at the guys channel and his entire, massive collection is like from the last 5 years. I also think youtube is his full time job and he's getting like a million views per month, which only pays 2-3k in income per month. Which is okay for an at-home job, but he seems to spend more than that on Lego.

I've never seen someone acquire things the way he does. Usually Lego collectors slowly build up to giant collections, or dropping thousands on projects, this guy just went all in the last couple years.
