The reactions to Velocitron Scourge surprised me. Not that people aren't allowed to dislike it, but I had no idea everyone considered RID Scourge and Nemesis Prime to be completely different characters. I mean, they're both Black Convoys, they're just different versions of the same thing in my head.

So what I think happened is the black parts on the missile pods, shoulders and crotch are tied to the same plastic as the forearms and vehicle mode front end, so they end up black. They were red on Laser Prime, but they painted them to get them the right color. The problem is that the trailer, which was mostly unpainted on Laser Prime, is covered in paint for Black Convoy so it lost all that paint in robot mode.The pink clear plastic in the shoulders was also painted over on Laser.

The chest is all clear plastic too and I doubt they would have had the budget to paint the windows right, but the rest of the chest should have been painted grey with the fake grill being black instead.

A good chunk of the clear plastic on loads of recent figures is unnecessary. Ideally they should use clear plastic inserts like Siege and Earthrise Prime had, or failing that just remove clear plastic all together and have solid-colour windows; it worked on Siege OP.

Never got into transformers toys. But as a kid I loved G1. How is super 7 ultimates Optimus? I don’t care about transforming just want a decent cartoon accurate Optimus for less than $100. Eventually I would like to collect other G1 characters so if there is a better line that I can jump on I would appreciate it.

It's pretty limited, most of the joints go to 45 degrees, maybe 90 at best. If you just want an Optimus to stand on your shelf looking good, it's not bad, and it looks a lot better than the RED figure. I would recommend the RED if you want something you can pose a little better though, at the cost of looking worse. I've attached a pic of the Super 7 Prime (left) next to the RED Prime.

Some other options: Amazing Yamaguchi Prime (a little stylized, so not cartoon-accurate, but has ASTOUNDING poseability), or Magic Square's Prime. Both of these are gonna be a fair bit smaller though, they'll be even shorter than that RED Prime.

It kills me they did that with wild rider seeing as he's part of a combiner, and the fucking promo shots show clear plastic cracking. Motormaster doesn't even have clear plastic so it's not even internally consistent with the rest of the Stunticons.

Laser Prime had most of the paint budget.The trailer only had a small area on each side painted. Black Convoy here took a lot of the paint budget away from the robot mode to cover a much larger section for the trailer to make it silver. That's why the clear red plastic shows through on Black Convoy, while the clear blue plastic doesn't show through on Laser Prime.

The one thing they could have done better with the paint budget that they had to work with was to paint the chest grey instead of black.

You can tell what the factor is
there's a small notch on the inside portion of the black thigh that legacy slides into but combiner wars does not.
That would make the CW less stable.
But I'm not sure if it's any less stable than regular CW combiners

But yes the original is still the best version, I don't get why it's so hard for this toy only design with a very simple transformation to get a update that's the exact same thing as the original but with better detail and articulation, without some compromise.

The RTS is too stylistically different, TR is a headmaster and suffers from having to be shared with Octane (I still think it looks the best) and the Legacy is only half of Laser Prime with G1 legs, and the new upper half is incredibly poorly done.

I know what you're referring to with "bootleg aesthetic" and that's probably the really edgy/sharp stuff like MMC's stuff that'll probably make you bleed unless you sand down some edges. To clarify, it's only Japanese Airazor that's a trap; Beast Wars was American-made (Well, Canadian-made, but made for Hasbro America), and she was canonically female over here.
