Got my APC Arcee today. She's pretty good as far as KOs go and the new palate is closet to the what it was in the show. Much better than their first attempt and it's nightmare paint chipping.

I really hate that Open and Play died so soon. Big old Leader Class/Mp size playable toys for dirt cheap was a fun idea.

Also I might be one of a handful of people who really like UT Springer. Just really like the bubbly proportions. Maybe I'll get one eventually.

Indecisiveness. MT was an upgrade company, then it was a Classics scale company, then a stylized MP company, then an original design company, then finally a toon MP company. And only the former and the first few really did well. Their Devastator hit at the right time, and their seekers did, everything else fell flat.

Were they? I don't remember them doing any upgrade kits. Are you sure you're not thinking of FansProject? In fact, didn't a bunch of the FP designers end up working for MT in the end? Sure seems like it in some of their CHUG scale original designs stuff like Defensor, Computron, Striker Manus, Rioter Despotron, and the Dinobots.

Striker Manus seemed like it did pretty well but then Rioter Despotron and whatever they called Silverbolt didn't seem to go over that well so I guess that's why they killed the cross dimension line. Despotron seemed like people really liked it (though I never quite got why) but they abandoned doing stylized MPs immediately after. No clue why they decided to just drop their Autobot Headmasters. Chromedome looked like he had some neat things going on and I love their Hardhead. Highbrow looked solid too before they canned him. Their Seekers looked decent but the toon stylings (while also fucking that up with his many sculpt breaking seams they had and the hollowed out wings) ruined it for me and I wish they were more in line with their Headmasters. Jazz was the same way in that I wanted to want him but it had the same problems as the Seekers for me. I had their Defensor set and thought I really liked it but over time, came to hate how fiddly it all was and I imagine Computron was the same so I can see why that ended. But yeah, they really needed to just pick a fucking lane and roll with the punches on it. Every company has had its share of duds from time to time but they suck with what they were doing and usually managed to come back from them eventually because they learned from their mistakes and kept at what they knew instead of just jumping ship to something totally different with new unknown challenges the second things didn't pan out.

Fuck me. I just realized that I managed to confuse FP for MT there. But I guess if anything, that just goes to show how similar they were at points. Those Dinobots really felt like they could have been either company.

He's covered for legends scale with two excellent offerings but if we're talking MP scale? Fuck no since not one company has gotten him right yet. Both official offerings are shit, Appolyon is a mess, Despotron is way too stylized to fit well in a collection, and WJ's offering is OS so it only fits in an OS collection. There is still no good MP G1 Megatron yet. If MS would just give Doomsday the same upscale treatment they gave to Prime, then we would finally have a winner but until then, there really is no good option for him.

It's been most MP/Legends stuff coming out for the past few years now, which when combined with the fact that the show's artstyle is pretty ugly at the best of times and the fact that people can be pretty obnoxious about it (both for and against tbf) it generates a lot of shitflinging.

Gotta admit that I'm not much of a fan of it either, all the insane engineering these things get and imo it's wasted on these ugly-ass designs.

MP-5 is okay as a G1 toy update but spindly with a cannon that's too big. MP-36 is toon shit with fake parts that takes 20 minutes to transform. Apollyon is good from the waist up but whoever designed the legs needs to inhale the pandemic. It at least has a swiveling cannon mount for proper top positioning or the tooner "muh elbow bend" faggots to be happy. Mightron looks okay but has another hard transformation. Despotron is okay, turning the cannon up doesn't have giant kibble hanging off the side of the arm as most options do(though I'd prefer a black mount piece to slide on like the G1 toy, fuck Shitbow's laziness) & a transformation tghat's not as much of a bitch as the others, even if the torso is more Browning & the legs sit front-to-back, which is probably the best solution to avoid having the legs need to thin themselves down. Any sort of bulky robot doesn't work well with having to be a Walther but if they do a big gun then tooners get their fee-fees hurt.

Because people learned long ago no one looks for "obvious repaints". They want the core cast of whatever their favorite show is, and thats about it. Which means Optimus, Megs, probably a Grimlock and Bumblebee thrown in there, and maybe some secondary's like Soundwave, Starscream, or Iron Hide/Ratchet, and Prowl.

Because MP-10 style toon/show hybrids were going strong for a few years until screeching to a hault in favor of toon style ones. So now you have one side that's upset their MP collection stopped a quarter of the way through and have to make due with toon MPs for the remianing stuff, and toon MP fans begging for older characters to get redone again despite limited returns(as we see with the deformation space releases imploding in sales). Really both sides aren't entirely happy, on the hardcore side at least.

I don't care about either side of the war but I really want redone carbots. Old MP Carbots might have looked nice but they're all just swivels and 90° bends. They make legends scale toys for like 5$ that pose better than hybrid-era MP carbots.

There are a few earlier figures with really stupid pricing. Like MP36 and Sunstreaker were only 2017 and way overpriced for what they were.

The worst was BW Megs, the thing is a skeleton with dino parts stapled onto him and he's fucking 300$ without even coming with a stand.

The KO is good but I didn't like how they put a light in the dino eyes and replaced them with clear plastic, it looks pretty bad. The electronics have too much passive drain on the battery too, I used it like once and it died the next day.

Because I have an original MP Dinomegs I ended up just frankensteining it and the KO together to put the crotch and shoulder joints on the official.

That's just because I got autistic about the dino eye colors though, I'd never tell anyone to buy an official version when the KO is like 90$ and better.

My biggest gripe was the fact that they bothered to add an LED, but couldn't have done anything about the obnoxious screw holes on the beast parts. Would've been a much easier fix than installing an LED into the thing.

Even though its dubious how they do it and execute it, I appreciate XTB doing toon and toy versions. The thing is once Takara shifted, EVERYBOY else did except for a few dying companies. Maketoys is the most notable for me because their starscream doens't match their Megatron despite coming with an accessory for it.

To be fair, that's not really the issue with him. If he couldn't transform without taking all those parts off and putting them in other places, then yes, that would be bullshit, but he doesn't need to partsform and those pieces coming off it's meant to be a feature for whatever reason. He was still pretty accurate to the show all things considered. Still, $300 was an absolute bullshit price for him because nothing about his posts count, engineering, or size warranted that. I'm guessing paint was their justification because he was slathered in it but it was cheap paint that scratched off easy just like all of their MPs from the last like, 4 years. $300 was bullshit even if it didn't have QC problems and the exploding crotch.

Slathering every single piece in paint is not automatically better just because it's more. Smart companies use bare plastic everywhere they can and save paint for metallics and details. FT's paintwork looks far better, plus it has a few extra painted details too give more visual interest, such as the tech details on the inner legs, compared to Takara's flat slabs of color. Also, sculpted silver details under translucent plastic always looks cool. FT's chest cockpit and red hip pieces look so much nicer than Takara's.

What are some of the biggest Monkey's Paws in 3P for you?

So far all their releases look like they dusted off something from the 2010 era of just learning CAD so everything is full of hard lines and hard angle greebles. All I want is basically the original figures with more robust sculpts and better articulation.

Just placed an order for Armada Megs, since I doubt any other company is going to tackle him except maybe Legends scaled (which I don't like) and I heard he was actually a really fun toy.
I don't really mind the stylistic direction but it definitely lacks the thicc daddy essence of the original design. I'm going to pretend he's just a younger version opposed to a redesigned take of the character.

MMC Lockdown was just so fucking bad. It was one of those figures that I thought the design was so cool at first until I actually got it and then I grew to hate the design as time went on. It looks nothing like his better IDW design, not even like a loose take with artistic license, has a lot of awkward shit going on like the super bulky shoulders, has weird proportions, the alt mode sucks and gives him a bunch of stupid wing kibble, the shoulders can't stay locked in because they chose to do weird round nubs instead of proper tabs, the trophy trailer sucks and is a bulky waste of space, etc. Just a bad fucking figure that I regret with every fiber of my being. I swear, him and Lugnut are the best things to come out of TFA and they're both totally underutilized and nobody has done anything good with them since the RTS figures, and Lockdow's RTS figure still has some pretty irritating problems.

Apparently a lot of the reported breakages were the result of poor packaging with the first wave. He initially released in a plastic clamshell which could break the arms if the box was poorly handled during shipping. Subsequent releases of the figure were sent in a foam insert to remedy the in-transit breakages. But if you've got a joint that's too tight, Jobby recommended silicone grease in his review. And if you do end up breaking it, just contact your supplier, they should be prepared to help you out. *Should*.

As far as the mold goes, the only differences are the new head, and the handlebars were put on hinges so that they can be folded down to tidy up the silhouette of her backpack a little bit. And she's not an upscale or anything, still the same size as FE. Other than that, the colors are more screen-accurate, like her lower arms and top of her hands being blue, as well as a black windscreen instead of blue. Angel Engine also has more accessories, you get the 2 giant arm blades that are copies of the FE ones, you also get 2 smaller arm blades that more closely resemble the source, and you also get 2 blasters that slot over her hands.

But to answer your question, personally, yes, I think there's enough improvements/additions here to justify buying angel engine, even if you have FE arcee. But if none of the things I listed are enticing enough for you, then don't worry about it and just enjoy your FE.

Those aren't bootlegs, they're new molds. TFSafara lists them as Super Model Souls Studio. I got their guns & face shield- the guns are a bit more g1 faithful with large tabs that slot into the right thumb for better support than DNA's terrible 5mm post to hold their gun up(of which tend to break). The face shield doesn't slip around the antenna, just clips in place, without lines on the front. Similar shoulder guns, but the leg panels the towers fit to are chromed. Their shield piece is a single part that doesn't fold up. They also have an oversized Black Zarak spear.

I appreciate the engineering on this guy, but he's more fit for an MP collection than a CHUG one like the Haslab (which is what I primarily collect). Had this thing had a more detailed robot mode, it would have been a no brainer.

Because that's going to happen with Unicron. Even the tiny figs Haslab got were too large. It would have to be human-sized to be to scale with something like even the WST line if you wanted them to transform with it.

The planet mode has good detailing, but look at how many flat surfaces there are in robot mode. The helmet, elbow joints, abs and rib area, crotch, thighs, and shins are seem too flat and boring to me.

The Haslab surfaces are just much busier, greeblier, which is the what I like in my figures.

MP isn't really getting accurate figures either though. And their transformation steps are overly complicated and bloated with kibble. Core Star reuses parts like crazy to keep the cost down, literally everything except his head is just mirrored left/right and front/back.

It does kind of look weird when you see how its inaccurate in some ways but personally if that's what it takes to make a fuckhuge figure cost only 300$ or whatever then I'm fine with it.

I think Unicron, by principle, should just be super greebly. He's meant to be fucking huge, and having a ton of tiny little details really sells that idea, even when the figure itself isn't that big. It's the same reason I like reprolabels for my titans but not much else. The added details really helps sell the intended scale of the figures.

I personally think Cell's greeble is perfectly fine, but different tastes and all.

I'll definitely disagree with you about not fitting well within a CHUG collection though, as long as the amount of greeble and detailing is on-par with the rest of the collection it'll display okay.
The Haslab Unicron has so much detail it wouldn't even fit with my own CHUG collection (TFC, MMC, etc) because there's too much of a difference lol

It is. All in all he looks great from the front. When you actually play with him then you start to see the usual XTB cut corners. The paint chipping on the shoulders can range from minimal like mine to huge chunks of paint missing. The plastic quality is good in most places but the backpack/car top is quite thin & I could see breaking.

Hasui's MPs were exactly what modern transformers should be, realistic car modes with a robot mode that combines realistic detailing with the classic G1 silhouette. And if you still want toon styling there's Studio Ox which is perfectly fine but G1 fags still screech about it.

I grabbed my Transcraft Bee off my shelf for the first time in a while and honestly I'm incredibly impressed with myself that I managed to transform it from memory without fucking it up. Last time I tried transforming him it must have took me like half an hour just to get his chest plates tabbed in properly and then I couldn't get both halves of his hood to close.

I hope whoever designed this fucking thing is still making changeformers because man it's engineering is nuts.

You forget just how long reformatted actually went on. It did very well in terms of sales up until the guy that normally edited Sark's designs and engineering left and all we were left with was Sark unfiltered. Plus, questionable decisions like jumping the gun (pun not intended) on Megatron's alt mode before concept images showed up didn't do the line any favors.

I actually didn't mind the inaccurate alt mode, I prefer to display him as Megatronus anyway since MMC made his face way too youthful. The longer forearms and the disgusting gap (which could've been solved by simply including a cover piece) is what bothered me more about the figure.

It's not even entirely because of the inaccuracy. That's part of it, sure, but what really bugs me is that the alt mode they gave him is absolute shit and the concept art alt mode is actually pretty decent. I'll admit that I pretty much never display my transformers in alt mode but I still like to periodically take them off the shelf and flip them back and forth so terrible alt modes are going to make me less inclined to do so.

Also, you're spot on about MtMtE turning to shit and MMC failing to capitalize on when it was still good with their dawdling release schedules. I didn't mind how they died because admittedly, that was more meant to be Megatron's moment than theirs and it was fitting for him to be the one to end it when he's the one who started then to begin with. Tarn's true identity though... THAT was a colossal fuckup and I'm still convinced that the only reason he wasn't Roller was because the writer was salty that people picked up on it before he got the chance to shock everyone with the reveal. Protip for any aspiring writers out there: just because readers predict your twist doesn't matter it a bad twist. In fact, you're SUPPOSED to leave hints and clues to it for clever readers to pick up. Obvious twists are bad but you still need to leave something to set it up instead of just throwing a hard arbitrary pivot in for the sake of shock value.

I actually like how the alt mode looks, just wish they made the forearms shorter at the expense of the alt mode looking a bit worse. The robot mode should always take priority over the alt mode, especially when said alt mode is made-up
What's funny is that iirc, Milne always had the concept art for Megatron's alt mode--he just didn't post it at the time of Tyrantron's development.

DJD (except Nickel imo, never liked her qUiRkY inclusion) and the Scavengers should've got their own mini-series honestly, they definitely had the popularity at the time and it's refreshing to get Decepticon-focused stuff. And god forbid we could've got some further backstory and development on the characters, and not be left with the retarded tweeeeeest of Tarn's identity.

Jesus, seeing the toon version in motion and next to other figures , it really just looks even fucking worse than the promo pics. It's just so drab and bland looking and the yellow chest window just sucks what little sculpted detail into it and makes the entire torso look like a big yellow void. Toy deco is definitely where it's gonna be at with these guys.

Also, kinda makes me wonder if the dino neck is still going to have the sculpted detail piece under it like SS86 Grimlock did.

As far as the accessories go, the guns both kind of suck for both the toy version and the toon version and neither one is really all that accurate. It's a bummer but it's whatever. I don't care much about the flame sword so that's whatever too, but you are right in that it should have been included with both. As for the legs, it would be shitty and it's still an amateur movie for NA to have to fix a figure post release AGAIN and sell said fix with another toy but let's be real here, it's hardly that much of a scam when everybody was going to buy the entire Dinobot team anyway. Kind of hard to be suckered into having to buy another toy that people were going to buy regardless.
