I hear the frame that comes with the hello kitty one isn't the same as the cross silhouette frame, so the proportions are kinda off.

I plan on using some weathering on this kit when done due to just how crisp and white it is. Not big on the idea of color swapping honestly. Maybe color adjectenting? Like if the peice is a light yellow, getting a deeper yellow to use instead, so it's still different but keeps the original design.

Well I did thin it before hand, and it's it very small amounts. That picture was within minutes of me applying it and it was still wet. Now that it's dry, and from 10 inches away, I don't think it looks too bad. But I will keep that in mind.

Yeah, still constructing it, working on the jetpack now. Going to try adding some weathering, got the Tamiya B kit for the soot dust and top coat it. It's been a slow process, I burned myself out a little recently.

Yeah, these fuckers break if you look at them funny. After breaking 2 Tamiya 0.2mm drills in a row I went and got a bunch of PCB drills and they turned out more durable (despite being ~3 times as long) and also singificantly cheaper.

So I got myself one of these

I am think about doing a full paint as this is probably one of the easiest to do in the line. I usually just do masking and can spray the paint, but for figure like this, there are just too much detail. So I am think about using some VA's model color to fill in those curvy details.

With that being said, how durable is Va' MC on Tamiya's lacquer paint surface? I tried bare plastic with MC before, it literarily just scrap right off. Other case they are used in mostly tiny details parts that won't be touched. But with world heroes kits with their sharp edges there are more chance of part come in touch with the paint. So, do they work well on with a lacquer foundation?

Remember-less is more on the weathering, its easy to go overboard. You should try dry brushing for weathering too, its simple but effective

Hand painted will never look as good as sprayed. Take the time to mask instead.

The masking will be insane and using cans won't give me the the precision I need with my skill.

I am more than capable enough to do brush work. But I never did it with a non military stuff using Model colors. The military set you complete them and put them aside. But with Gundam stuff thing bumps into each when you pose them, hence my question.
It is a legit issue and it ended with VA making Mecha colors. The model color crumbles on bare plastic.

unlikely, macross delta kits is a possiblity. Plus those vf-1 kits (and just the bandai macross line in general) are riddled with alot of issues.
Better off buying that upcoming plamax vf-1, or hasegawa kit if you want more surface detail.

What would be the best kind of stands I could buy a lot of to put these guys in action poses? Preferably something modular that can all clip together so they don't fall over as easily.

How do you sell used Gunpla? I've come to the conclusion that I don't want most of what I've built over the years. Some of it is missing pieces, some of it has instructions, labels applied, it varies. Is it worth trying to sell or should I just goodwill it all?

Found this cleaning out my closet. My dad got me this like, 5+ years ago and I remember having fun with it. Seeing it again after so long, I'm kind of interested in getting into Gunpla stuff properly. Maybe start with a small set and work my way up to those absurdly large and detailed ones.

Ok, so which one is the best for bulk ordering? I have about 30 144 scale suits here and will probably have more soon. I was looking at the bandai one with the hexaganal base, do they come with enough clips to attach them all together? Or would it be better if I went with the 30mm truss stands?

being transported? then its the trailer truck. though I don't think Bandai print these anymore, so you're stuck with Kotobukiya's Trailer Base

Custom flauros I'm currently working on, first time painting a kit while replacing the whole color palette. Next I'm going to cover up the little pink parts showing with a chipped paint effect and apply some decals, lastly do some mild dirt weathering.
What do you all think? Any suggestions for improvement? Next kit I'll be building is the ground urban combat type, looking forward to it.

I used army green spray paint primer and did the whole boiling water trick before painting. But I'll start practising with primer soon, I just got it yesterday.

I applied a first layer of tan-white primer and then the green army spray color. I then just sanded it off in the corners and edges and such. I didn't use thinner for this part as >>9835371 said.

After that I mixed abbadon black with thinner and applied as a shading, it looked really bad, like it was soaked in black cum. I just sanded it away and was satisfied with it.

How should I have done it? Also the tan primer I used first was styrofoam spray primer that I had lying around, it was what created that rough texture.

i mean it makes sense, it's like edge highlight through basecoat
that being said, very easy to oversand, as you've done in some areas

the hairspray method is good for chipping
>layer one: the colour of the base (i.e. rust)
>layer two: decant hairspray into an airbrush, then cover the parts in a couple of coats
>layer three: colour of your model (in this case green)
once the paint is dry, submerge in in water for a minute or so then scrub it with a hard brush, focusing on the edges. the water dissolves the hairspray and takes the top coat of paint off, leaving the one below

Base white 1000 is not a primer, it's a high-density-pigment white paint. It behaves like any regular paint so of course if you dump a bunch of thinner on it with a brush, it will eat through it. DUH

Get a proper primer, Tamiya would be the best if you want to use Tamiya paints.
Let it cure for 24hr.

Depends on the size/shape/position of the accents. Could be easier to paint red and blue first, then cover them with masks and paint the whole thing silver.

that isn't really too hard to do when you have masking circles(inverted or not) of the correct dimensions, you can do it from the inside or from the outer part of the shield too.

Yes, although waterslides would work better for that purpose. They're much thinner than stickers and their outlines are much less obvious.
Applying weathering dust over stickers will highlight their edges.

IBO plot makes zero sense to me, they only had one Gundam in the first season, everything else were just mobile suits, and season 2s plot is making even less sense to me. It ain't even bait. The excitement of a new kit gets me happy. I get it, add it to my pile, and then don't get around to building it. And when I do build and post the kits, here, or elsewhere, people just tear the work apart because of tiny imperfections or arbitrary rules they set. I cut and sand down my nubs, panel line, do some small brush paint details instead of stickers, and top coat, but there is always something people flip out about.

Mostly self taught while breaking a couple chink shit needles in the process. tutorials are handy, but utlimately you're airbrushing experience is going to vary wildy from the type of paint to the airbrush, PSI, temp+humidity. All linked together that will ultimately effect your paint job and thats something you'll only get to know from experience.
eg, I only found out i had to use flow improver when airbrushing model color recently when the temperature rised + humidity fell because dude summer.

First time highlighting/shading.
My paint sometimes shoots shit like this. They look like solid pieces balls of paint out of the airbrush. Any reason why? I find myself having to clean the tip of the needle with a q tip with lacquer thinner frequently. I am using mr.color lacquers, with leveling thinner. I am spraying at around 14-17psi. Should I thin my paints more?

Lacquer is hardened and can be painted over in minutes anon. You can speed it further with a hair dryer, yes, but shouldn’t really need to. By the time you finish the last of a handful of pieces, the first one will be dry.

I used to paint t-shirts and caricatures at parks and fairs, then motorcycle customs. Gunpla is baby shit. The paint is the easy, fun part. It’s the surface prep that sucks.

If you're airbrushing acrylics thats more than enough to get all the basic stuff and a fair amount of paints.
For laquers, that would be barely or not enough if you don't have a spare well ventilated room. You'll have to get your self a proper paint booth.

When will this meme die? Probably when all the idiots who propagate it go take a lung x-ray.

If you atomize thing that is not pure water, you need to extract thing from environment, plain and simple. Respirator alone is not enough, "good ventilation" that moves air around the room is not enough. Either the contaminated air leaves the room or it passes through filter that removes the contaminant. That remains true whether you spray lacquers, acrylics, gouache or food coloring.

Spraying acrylics in a well ventilated room + wearing a respirator is more than enough. The acrylic dust lingering about will be bad, but won't be any worse than going to a busy road outside. Unless you decided to blast alot of paint beyond 20 psi, in that case you or anyone not wearing a mask will likely end up with a blacked nose.
Compare that with laquers or enamels and that shit without a booth to extract the fumes will give you a nasty headache/brain damage without any sort of respirator.
