The Turtle Lair will be sold in three sections, living room, kitchen, workshop. First one (living room) will very likely be sold around September.

The toon accessory pack has the Turtle Tots, MACC, and a bunch of random bits and pieces.

All Lootcrate stuff has been ironed out and Armeggon is in the warehouse to ship next. ALL sets will be shipped out, even if you're missing one so far. They're going out "very soon."

Last Ronin line will be around 12 figures. There is a toon Last Ronin coming, and this is leading to other characters being put in the Fred Wolf line that weren't on the show.

More stuff will be shown at Power Con and NYCC.

Also revealed, Brian cannot make Sgt. Bananas. Turns out there's a number of figures in the vintage line that have legal issues wrapping them up, including Sgt. Bananas. So they made this guy instead. Seems like the vintage line is a bigger minefield than anticipated.

That's bizarre, I thought all the Playmates designs were work-for-hire, i.e. the company owns them and not the designer. I never even had Bananas so I don't care bout him, but now I'm worried about what other characters might be affected.

I really hope the Napoleon Bonafrog design isn't affected, tbe biggest thing I'm anticipating from this line are ultimate versions of him and Genghis and then for Super7 to do new designs for Attila and Rasputin. I feel like the whole idea loses its appeal if they can't do Napoleon or have to do yet another original design for him, or worse if they just make him a Genghis recolor.

We know sometime before 1998, Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman went and had a bunch of freelancers sign retroactive work-for-hire contracts(probably around the early 90's.) The one persona we know who refused to sign is Rick Veitch. So it might be a Rick veitch concept they never got the rights to. This also might be why Gorilla Guerilla was created for that magazine comic years ago, too.

Well, it might be bias but eastman said they were pretty generous with the contracts. Basically they got a cut of the figures profits.Veitch mainly refused out of principle, though I am just making a guess about him being the creator.

We know the Chinese factories steal molds all the time, and given how many bootlegs there are, that's likely what happened.

What I think probably occurred was: NECA's mirage figures came out, were a success, wave 2 was sculpted and ready to get into production. Playmates, in their jealous bitch rage started prototyping their own Mirage TMNT figures (the first time) just to cockblock NECA and keep a stranglehold on the rights. That's when NECA's wave 2 plans got toasted and sat around as 2-ups in their office...

PROBABLY around that time the Chinese factory either stole the molds or NECA decided to leave them because they wouldn't be able to use them at all and it was likely to expensive to try getting them back. And then all the bootlegs started happening, and during that period there was no more TMNT in NECA's future, so it was whatever.

I don't know much about how the TMNT figure rights worked during that time other than Playmates holding pretty much all the rights. Was it something along the lines of Neca being able to make figures on my of the Mirage versions since Playmates wasn't? And when Playmates decided to cockblock with their own Mirage line, Neca lost that right?

Yeah, it was during one of Playmates' many periods of not releasing any TMNT toys. The CGI movie toys had come and gone/hit clearance, and I think Neca was able to get their figures out under them being specialty market and yeah, possibly because they were comic versions.

But yeah, Playmates shut them down before wave 2 could get produced (I remember them being shown off in ToyFare). I think it was the first time Playmates really had competition foe their baby.

Speaking of TMNT rights, this is unrelated but one interesting thing is that Mirage had the ability to shop around turtles characters to other cartoon companies. They wanted a Mighty Mutanimals cartoon, and when Fred Wolf passed, they were able to go to Filmation for it. The only reason it didn't happen was Playmates not wanting to do a line for toys they had already released. So there's a whole bunch of alternate animated designs for the Mutanimals out there(which are all similar to their archie/toy looks)

Super7 collector here. After this SDCC, seeing the plans NECA has for everything and that Brian couldn’t even get the rights to Sgt Bananas, I’m regretting my choices. But now it’s too late, there’s too many neca figures that have crazy secondhand prices.

the big problem is playmates is the leader in keeping status quo

they have resisted almost every innovation in the realm of action figures in favor of keeping in the realm of low cost childrens toys with low articulation and minimal paint aps. They also never push the envelope within these lines, the most interesting and innovative thing they did with the 2k12 tmnt line prior to the wwe crossover figures was...swappable limbs between figures, which was arguably just an excuse to save money via removing peg systems. other than that they always play it very close to the chest. They rarely come out with any new action features that haven't been seen in literally every previous toyline and pretty much only make figures based around things seen directly within the show. I've never sat and watched any of the other licenses they produce toys for but I'd bet my last dollar the same can be said about any and every other line they make.

every other toy company grew with their fanbase and slowly expanded the various licenses across multiple toy lines catering to both their long time customers who were turning into adults as well as the new fans they spewed from their nethers.

tl;dr Neca did was playmates ninten-dont

You people are fighting over TOYS!! Adult collector lines for sure but still toys. I understand when qc is terrible and I hate that too, but please stopping trying to make a war over whether neca or Super7 make the worst or best TMNT toys. I own a few neca toon turtles and I’m really enjoying them. My Mondo Gecko has a leg that pops off if I move it but can still pop it back in. Probably gonna get something to fix that.
I don’t own any of super7’s TMNT ultimates but that is mostly due really wanting to focus on one line and not spend so much money.

seriously. i've always loved the toy colors, and while other versions have done it pretty well, nothing quite matches the way purple-with-yellow-brown or blue-with-olive look. plus mike being darker makes the orange really pop.. raph being the generic middlin' green works because green contrasts with red regardless

With Neca doing figures of the Archie TMNT adventures comic characters I would love to see them do figures of Armaggon, this comic’s version of scumbug and Wrym, Maligna, her warriors, Scul and Bean, Null, and the four horsemen.
There’re probably gonna show off more characters in the coming cons with this version of Wingnut & Screwloose, Mondo Gecko, and Leatherhead to finish up the mighty Mutanimals. But just think of the possibilities.

They'd probably just repaint their Tournament Fighters Armaggon, which would be...ok, I guess, but I'm really not a fan of how his general body shape came out. He looks awkward, and his head/upper body should really be way bulkier so he has this hunched, leaning forward stance.

Hmm but going by this, another issue is the entire torso-front needs to slide down. it's not merely about tilt/hunch, look at his pecs and how anatomically disconnected they are from the shoulders in this sprite. not that that makes sense

The problem isn't the pixel size. NECA's pixel thing has almost always been a horrible idea. The pixels don't really correspond to anything, they're just slapped on there with no rhyme or reason. Sprites were never supposed to be visibly blocky anyway, the goal was to design them so that when viewed on a CRT they would take on a smooth, almost painterly looking image. So nobody would nostalgically remember games looking blocky and shit, they would remember smoothness.

They've done it right before, with a layered cel-shaded type look, on NES Predator and Terminator. These figures look fucking awesome. But they really only work with strongly lit color schemes like the ones that were necessary on NES. As games got more colorful, more of them just started making shit the correct colors, which is boring in a paint scheme like this.

Basically, after the more abstract NES ones, NECA should have just dropped the whole pixel idea and either do soft-shading like in >>9943847, or at least cartoon looking solid colors. There was never any need to slap those ugly huge pixels all over.
