I got a used lot a while back that had a bunch of parts for the big ships from Blacktron I, Ice Planet, and Space Police II. While I am not even a spacefag I couldn't resist tracking down the missing pieces on Bricklink and completing each set. Now you anons post pics of that big kino Space Police I ship from time to time and I feel like my collection is incomplete. Those are definitely the top 4 of the post-classic Space themes. Fuck M-Tron, fuck Blacktron II.

I don't really like any of the three I wish they would just rip of the Megabloks Dragon line complete with warring factions, forts, and different dragon colors.

Not into buildings myself, but I like how this one came out. In fact, I think it's better than the original submission. However, it's insanely overpriced. If the light and motor was going to add that much then they should have released it without it and made an optional upgrade pack in my opinion.

Got this at a deep discount at local toy store. Box was soaked all the way though from a water leak. Had to add a door and mod a bit since this apparently isn’t a stand alone set. Will Christmas it up and add to my Winter Village. Haven’t bought a new set in a long time.

The longer tan pieces and blue pieces with rails remind me of the hockey baseplates from that long ago sports time. The hexagonal pegged/popped pieces used on the far right I'm not sure about, I'd have to ask that builder himself sometime. All the guys that but this are really friendly on Flickr or social media.

The tan parts look like duplo cushions which were released last year - with that many I'd assume they bought a bunch on bricks and pieces.

Are the huge panel pieces on the middle building those disney princess storybook things? Really cool parts usage. The upside down light grey arctic panel windows on the top right are also really great to see upside down.

I had the chance to buy a dark forest fortress unopened about 2 years ago for $400 and I'm kicking myself I didn't get it. I wanted to find a cheaper opened one and now opened ones in good shape sell for that at a minimum.

The magic manor is sort of ugly desu. It's just a bunch of burps on a baseplate. Everything is awesome for parts to build on though. It's not built to be a single use model like lots of lego sets now.

As a kid, I loved my LEGO boxes. I was mostly into Creator, so I used them to store the pieces to each set. That way, I could pull a box off of the shelf, flip open the lid, and build wherever. I also repurposed the boxes from bigger sets with tape in order to store my collection and then take some of it with me on the go. However, my favorite ones were definitely X-Pods and BIONICLE canisters because they were more durable. And those blue LEGO tubs were also fantastic for building walls. Because of these methods, I still have many of them to this day.

As an adult, I don't have as much use for them because I sort my pieces now, but I still think they're nice to look at. One way or another, everything in my childhood collection ended up taken apart and dumped into clear plastic totes, and I have yet to put them back together. They're currently safe in storage for the promised day, but I can't say the same for all of the cardboard boxes that weren't being used anymore.

Although there are ones from my childhood that I wish I had kept, and others that I can't believe that I didn't recycle, it ultimately boils down to preference. Of the boxes that I didn't immediately recycle as an adult, I kept all 4 of the NINJAGO: Master of the Mountain wave boxes for the board game sets so that I could store them like my LEGO Games sets, and any that I couldn't decide if I would want to resell the set down the road or not. At the end of the day, I'd at least like to look at the box for 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens and then decide from there.

Monkie kid has some pretty cool sets. I bought this Turtle dragon thing with a gift card, and it's pretty great. I turned Monkie Kid's mini sub into a mech because of course I did. I'll probably do a mini mech for the evil monkey guy.

Most sets don't beat out inflation and the cost of selling fees. The odd ones like the Stranger Things sets see a good push upwards but overall, it isn't worth it.

The reason why old sets are worth a lot now is because they were produced in a lot smaller batches. Especially around the 2000-2007 era. Lego has really been pumping stuff out the past 5 years or so.

On two occasions I have invested almost every cent in my budget minus overhead and savings on lego sets. I invest normally but I have certainly been in a position where I knew maximizing my return wasn't as large if a risk. I identified the sets that would keep value - mostly Creator sets like the amusement rides and especially modular buildings- and roadtripped every retail and Lego store in the area to get the max I could. I put them in my old man's storage container for a few years and then put them online for huge profit. Blanket investing in every $150 set is beyond retarded unless his plan is to be a general reseller, which it doesn't sound like he has the raw capital to achieve. If he dedicates research into understanding the market he can mske better plays, but it sounds like he's been swindled by youtube hypebeasts. Continue to instill doubt or caution until it affects your friendship - he's making the wrong decision for the wrong reason. Lego investing *is* a great low-effort way to make money, but you need a balance of capital and brains to succeed. You can get away with an overwhelming degree of one or the other, but a balance of patience and willingness to spend is the name of the game.

100% agree. But at this point, Lego in general is overpriced, so MK doesn't seem so bad. Also, I had a $50 gift card from my Lego VIP card, so it was only 38 dollars or so for the dragon.

Also, I got around to building a mech for the evil little monkey dude. I tried to make it gorilla-like and bulky. Anybody ever see the Monkie Kid show? I kind of want to watch it now. I've seen a few clips and the animation looks pretty good.

Odd question for anyone who might know. I picked up Mines of Moria for cheap recently, and noticed that the LBG pieces are in two totally different shades. It's not sun damage, but it's extremely jarring. Was it normal in 2012 sets to have this colouration discrepancy? It's close to a 50/50 split.

When you don't have an audience the key is to make unique videos with enticing titles that might get picked up by the algorithm and make someone who doesn't know the channel click on it being suggested in the sidebar. If you look at his videos with the most views it's unique novelty things like lego vs lepin, pirate ships comparisons, star wars ships comparisons, sets to invest, large mocs...

Reviews is something you shit out consistently on schedule when you have already captured an audience that will watch most of what you upload. They do not capture new subscribers, as it is stands all those hours of work are unfortunately going to waste.

I think you might be right. At Jang's peak, he was getting upwards of a million views per review.

Then he restructured to put reviews on a new channel and the most famous lego reviewer on the net now gets like 20-30k views a video, and a little more on licenseshit. Reviews, especially of old sets that kids largely can't get, just seem to not please the algorithm or bring anyone in.

Investors that purchase out vintage sets to resale are awful. Investors that buy new stuff and store it for future resale and pretty based because they flood the third party economy and make things more accessible. Lego is doing larger batches and making more stuff now simply due to lots of investors.

I keep boxes but it just occurred to me I don't know why. They just fill up a closet, I don't have them out on display or anything. And if I got rid of them I'd have a lot more space to store other stuff
But I guess it feels like part of the product so it feels bad to throw it out

1, I hate stickers
2, even if they would use prints, I think Lego is being super lazy by using decals to represent physical details like headlights 90% of the times, when a transparent wedge or slope piece could do the job.

It has a few hidden gems, like this Challanger but I don't care for the line that much, best thing that comes out of it that it gives a lot of material for MOCs

My first suggestion of the recent sets would be this ferrari that I really enjoyed that works without the stickers, though I personally think it doesn't look right without the numbers. I'd also recommend the AMG two pack with the F1, both are fun builds, has good prints an works without stickers, but again the F1 doesn't look quite right without all the sponsors stuck to it. The Lamborghini Countach also works without stickers and was a great build but suffers from a bad print job on the canopy.

Such a rarity, I don't think it'll happen again. I'm also still salty Ninjago had it's train from 2012 cancelled and they never made another one.
