On the subject of Licca, I got some clothes from the local Daiso thinking they'd fit but they're very slightly small, and the shoes are definitely too small. Thought I had a source of cheap doll shoes, sad. This Kimono is still really cute on her though

“Speculator“ type of collectors have always been cringe to me.
Every single doll I’ve ever bought, I got because it was a pretty well-designed doll, that’s the primary reason anyone should collect.

Don’t get a bunch of dolls you don’t want just to “complete the wave“, don’t leave one sealed in the original package when you really want to pose and play with it “because it might be worth a lot of money someday“, don’t get a doll you don’t like just because “everyone else in the collecting community has her and says she’s great”.
Collect dolls because they have inherent aesthetic appeal to you personally. not as a future investment, not to be trendy, not so that you can resell it later to desperate casuals with no impulse control who “missed out on the trend“.

I’m probably the only person in this thread who likes the She-Ra Netflix dolls made by Mattel from 2019 (I have She-Ra and Glimmer).
I don’t care that they’re not show-accurate, I don’t care that the source material they come from is poorly written and drawn; they’re neat-looking on their own without any other context, I like them as dolls, independent of their IP of origin.
They make me happy enough to justify the purchase, and that’s all that matters.

I will admit it is pretty cool to know that something you have is worth something but it shouldn’t have been the goal. I got the original MH ghouls 6 pack as an Xmas present years ago from a good friend who knew it was something I really wanted. Today it’s worth like $400. Cool to know but unless I’m about to become homeless, I won’t ever part with it. Just like how I won’t part with some of my dolls that are worth less than retail.

I'm hoping the live-action She-Ra v3 that Amazon optioned happens. Mattel teased a gorgeous line of vintage-clothed Princess of Power dolls in 2016, but apparently only the male GenXer He-Man fandom could support toys in the absence of a show.
The important part is that they had nice realistic faces on super-articulated 12" bodies, not that the outfits were vintage. So something like this could still be done for a reboot.

I don't think anonymous online imageboards are the place to scream and shout your personal life unless it somehow pertains to the thread topic. But since you asked, I'm a married woman who rarely posts pictures of some of my dolls here but I mostly lurk for news about upcoming dolls.
I'm defiantly more into barbie sized dolls but I recently got a bunch of old Monster High dolls from my younger sister(who also lurks here). Also got my old collection of bratz and porcelain dolls from my parents. But even now I keep it tucked away because I don't want to deal with dusting them all.

Tbh there’s plenty of out of box collectors too, so if you want the resale ability just save the box somewhere and don’t fuck up the doll. It won’t go for nib prices if it happens to inflate (which is a big if) but you can probably resell for the what you bought it for if there’s any market.

From what I have seen online (Bratz were never my thing, so have not bought any myself) the QC is far worse than the usual MGA issues like clothes being too small to fit the doll. Like, so bad that they had to re-issue some of the dolls because of how fucked up the faces were.

It depends, the original first line is pretty good and Sweetheart Meygan is excellent besides the warped rubbery arm. The worst offenders were Rock Angelz to the point MGA rereleased an updated Roxxi. Girlz Nite Out is meh, they lack so many accessories and the third outfit. Not to mention the dolls aren't similar enough, as well Jade's and Jasmin's dress pattern is just crap and unflattering.
I pray that Pretty N' Punk won't be monkey pawed!

That one Xoomer had a point about She-Ra’s concept being “between demographics”, this is both why it became memorable in pop culture, but also why it didn’t sell as much as MOTU.
It was a sword and sorcery fantasy adventure where the main character wielded a sword and fought an evil empire, but they were also slice of life elements and the playsets were much less conflict focused with blurbs like “mystical hangout spot for She-Ra and her friends!”.
I am with you anon, I would love a line of warrior-Princess action dolls with athletic muscular bodies, gripping hands, but also long brushable hair and sparkly pretty costumes. But it just wouldn’t sell except to a very niche collector audience.

Boys and men who buy action figures would think they were too large in scale and too girly, young girls would think they were too scary looking (because of the Amazonian bodies and comicbook-styled mature adult faces) and wouldn’t care for action play and weapon accessories.

Different anon, but Mattel could have saved A LOT of money by reusing G1 shoe tooling if the new dolls’ feet were the same size.
Fans are already trying to re-dress the new dolls in G1 stuff and it sucks that the shoes don’t fit, because the designs are superior to anything G3 has put out so far.
There were quite a few shoes in G1 that were only used once or twice that fans and collectors would love to see casted in other colors as well.

With all of the Mattel shills STILL making excuses for low quality outfits by saying “fabrics are expensive they can’t afford to use luxe materials!!” If they hadn’t spent millions of dollars on tooling for new faces and bodies (even though Mattel has all of the original MH molds), maybe they could’ve allocated the budget towards decent fashions, where it SHOULD have gone in the first place.

When Monster High G3 inevitably gets reduced to five POA budget trash in 2-3 years I don’t want anybody to say “well they ran out of budget“ because they had the budget and they wasted it.

Honestly, even as a Licca fan I wouldn't be crazy amounts unless it was a dream doll. Mattel switched to a glue that doesn’t degrade in 2014 for Indonesia-made dolls.
China-made MH dolls with glue (some China-made dolls have glue and some don’t, it’s really random) can occasionally still leak though (my Ghouls Getaway Jinafire from 2015 has sticky hair).
The g2 MH dolls have the hair melted into the scalp after rooting, and so do Haunt Couture so Mattel finally stopped using glue in 2016.

There isn't a US based distributor for them which is why they cost so much; the playline dolls only cost about 25$ and the "collector" Castles are about $30 if you buy them from the actual factory. The problem is the shipping and also the reseller markups, since they're so hard to get outside of Japan you have to rely on ppl buying them there and reselling and they flip them for a lot, especially castles. If the collector market for them was bigger here maybe some US based shops would start importing them and we'd get reasonable prices.

You can try looking at Mandarake, they have playline stuff for good prices, but the shipping will be high. I usually get a few things so at least the shipping cost is worth it.

As for pilling, I enjoy the personality in the sculpts and how classically anime some of them are. The couple of castles I've gotten have really nice makeup jobs (subtle with airbrushing) and their hair is incredibly high quality and doesn't tangle easily. I just find them incredibly cute and charming, whereas a lot of western dolls are trying to outdo each other with sparkle makeups and high fashion style clothes. I like some of the fashion aesthetics from MGA but their characters have no substance (RH entire premise is they go to high end fashion-based high schools) and Barbie is so desperate for inclusion that she has to be everything at once and has no personality of her own. A lot of western dolls suffer from a sort of watering down of their concepts by execs who think it'll be too challenging for little girls to understand. Licca has a lot of typical princess dolly stuff but she also has lots of styles where she looks like just a girl going to the mall with her friends, or a young woman going to the farmer's market. I really like how the fandom restyles them especially, they look very natural and alive.

I think it is safety regulation stuff. Most really cheap metal hardware contains heavy metals and other stuff that probably wouldn't pass the "is it clsafe to touch it all the time and potentially swallow it" tests children's toys have to go through. It's probably both cheaper and less of a headache to just go plastic closures.
Only thing I wish they do is use that really fine Velcro Japanese doll clothes tends to use. It would prevent a lot of snagging that way.

Never got into Bratz and the quality increase from normal Barbies to My Scene was huge. Her hair had highlights and was styled all of a sudden instead of being that gross thin straight hair you can't style. The clothes were modern and fun. It was peak Y2K. Some of them were over the top slutty club girlies (the Bling Bling dolls come to mind) and it was fun. FUN!

Ok that’s just slander. Yes the aesthetic of EAH was blander and “safer” than MH, and the early characters were WAY too moonfaced, but EAH had some of the most detailed playlines Mattel has put out since MyScene.
- The first 2 waves of signatures came with socks or stockings, bracelets and rings, earrings, and soft saran hair was standard.
- Legacy Day was even more detailed than the sigs; they came with tiaras, capes, more rings, books that opened with tiny keys, LD Cerise had a fur-trimmed hood, the first 3 LD dolls even had painted toenails!
- Thronecoming wasn’t exactly my taste, but they had multi-layered full length freaking ballgowns!
- Spring Unsprung had darker more dramatic makeup and drybrushed crowns and shoulder pieces, I still play with SU Holly’s hair to this day.
- Dragon Games was when budget cuts were starting to become obvious, but even then; a line of warrior princesses in metallic armor like breastplates shoulder pads and gauntlets! How often do we see that in playline?
So many other pretty lines too like Fairest on Ice, Through the Woods, and Sugar Coated.

EAH was too good to last and it’s a real shame because almost all of the 2013 to 2015 dolls were good quality.

Even now, I don’t think I could ever see myself buying MH dolls.
That’s perfectly valid anon, EAH was created to target the demographic of girls whose parents were too conservative to allow them to have monster high, while still being similarly proportioned with a “daughters of iconic characters going to high school“ formula.
It is a gorgeous aesthetic, it’s just not edgy and fierce like MH. If you think of it as it’s own “pretty fairytale aesthetic” rather than constantly trying to compare it with MH, it’s a beautiful line.
And even then, there were a few darker-looking dolls (like Raven and Mira Shards). Do I have permission to dump more of my EAH doll pictures? Cause man so many pretty ones

still the same printed fabric in basic silhouette with over reliance on molded plastic accessories. eah only seems detailed because they're over-designed plus they were over-priced between $20 and $30 which reinforced their "deluxe" feels which at the time was crazy since they barely got stuff on. They had floor length papery gown and cheap satiny and printed jersey, and at the beginning they had some tulle and fishnet but loose those so quickly with all those extra ring and stuff.
The face sculpt was bland and unfaltering and the dolls all looked too similar with just colors schemes swaps.

you guys are too blinded by the love of the story and these character that you can't see it. There's reason they flopped and it wasn't only Disney fault, they were just too expensive for what you were getting.

MH was often like this as well, I mean yeah nothing that Mattel puts out is anywhere close to MGA-tier quality, but golden age EAH was when playline dolls were so nice that I didn’t give a shit about company wars because Mattel still made stuff that looked decent.
Besides, this Cerise has 5 different fabrics on her; the stretchy knit of her hood and bust, satin for the main part of her tea dress, sheer fabric for the plaid peplum top layer, mesh material for the fishnet socks, and another one for the main bodice of the dress that I can’t name but it’s not as stretchy as the hood part.
Yes every single doll had a print but there was layering, there was variety in fabrics, and EAHdolls absolutely had a “luxe feel” with many of them worth their price pint.

The dolls are fine with the exception of clawdeens outfit and hair not looking great. But the art is so sucky and unprofessional looking. Yes, Mattel is a billion-dollar corporation who could have and should have done better. There’s no excuse, considering that they have been planning the Monster High come back for years, for mediocre amateur-looking packaging and artwork.
Changing the bodies so much that they’re not cross-compatible with original monster high clothes and shoes, was also pretty dumb.

Obviously don’t harass actors and voice actors because they are just being paid to play a role, but the budget cuts absolutely should be criticized. The polypropylene hair, lack of doll stands and diaries, and the overall more simplified direction are really disappointing and show that Mattel doesn’t respect the brand that brought them so much success.

I assume the bodies were changed to fit other common doll brands that are out right now, since it's been shown they more compatible with OMG and RH, it makes more sense than having them compatible with doll clothes from 5+ years ago, even if that'd be more ideal with longterm fans, they need to take into account today's children.

i saw so many pics of that pool with others doll brands, it's one of last best doll pool and you can even get it in sale.

the car was meh but there're another one coming for Shadow high some kind of g wagon.
There's also a tour bus for rainbow vision, it's going to be really expensive probably over $100 but like the house and pool their playsets are really detailed and realistic with a classy aesthetic.
Their only down-point are their price and scale since rainbow high are short dolls

The main difference with rainbow high is omg and tween are releasing less dolls, maximum 4 per wave and only a couple of pairs series. It clear rainbow high huge prices inconsistency are related to their intense release schedule, like every months they release something and their have 6 or 3 dolls per series and i'm sure they pay transport fee full price or speed up the production timeline (cut extras and poor QC) so the release aren't delayed

These don’t feel like collector-level dolls and I’m disappointed in the ‘Haunt Couture’ line. I get it as a cute fashion pun but words mean things and Haute Couture has a literal checklist of measurable standards. With kid’s playline dolls, it’s fine to play pretend, but in a LE doll line aimed at adult collectors, with 5 dolls at $75/doll, Mattel should know better than to even imply that these types/levels of fashion accomplishments resemble any kind of haute couture. The cheap printed knit fabrics and molded plastic accessories are in fact the very opposite of haute couture and throwing on a few beads and applied gems here and there is not enough. And a casual backpack with a printed motif? Really? Just no. Mattel knows better than to give collectors this quality level at $75, it worked for a while with Barbie’s lines for adult collectors but eventually it eroded their whole Barbie Collector Club fan base and the dolls even stopped selling out their limited editions. Silkstones and other LE collector models ended up clearanced out at bargain prices at Tuesday Morning stores throughout the US. I’m not bothered by the playline reboot doll changes and I like the idea of the Creeproductions, but in a Collector’s line like this one, I expect better design and better quality.
