Among some other little tweaks, a recoil spring was instead placed in a tubular extension on the back of the receiver. Uh, but now you can't really get a proper grip on the stock, so they had to bolt a pistol grip on under it. The improved iteration gets dubbed the DPM, for "Modernized", and results in a now completely rock solid light machinegun.
Pictured here is a Polish manufactured DPM machinegun, if you look closely here, you can see the neatly old-fashioned features of the DP27/DP28/DPM, with a little oil bottle contained in the stock, which you would use for maintenance. You'll also notice that the drum has some kind of gunk caked onto it.
