If their automated system thinks that your work is NSFW, it automatically sets it to "private" which means no one but the owner can see it. If you give the link to someone else, all they see is "Error, this is a private paste." Note the use of passive voice there. They won't fess up to the fact that THEY marked it private, or that it was done automatically, or that it may have been done months (or years!) after the paste was was originally made. For this reason, if your paste has even the slightest chance of being categorized (or miscategorized) as NSFW, I suggest not using pastebin. I personally find this policy and its implementation to be dishonest and insulting, so I refuse to use Pastebin anymore for anything, ever. Rentry has none of these problems as far as I know, and even allows for limited formatting options, like paragraphs and bold/italic text. So use that instead.
My two cents. And yes I am fucking salty. There was an enormous amount of old Homestuck smut that existed on pastebin and was never properly archived, and it's all just fucking gone now. Same thing happened when Tumblr nuked NSFW material, and similar things happened in the past when
FF.net disallowed NSFW and when DeviantArt disallowed NSFW. Although both of those things happened a generation ago at this point. Man I'm fucking old.
