How different do you think the Pokemon world would be if pokeball don't exist. I image having to either convincing a pokemon to join your team would or prove how strong, smart, loyal, etc you are would drastically reduces the amount of pokemon people will have. Gym battle would also have to be reworked. Since there is a real possibility that many people, if not the majority of them will only have one Pokemon. Housing would be interesting problem for large pokemon like onix or Snorlax. Transportation would be much more difficult for anyone with either a large pokemon or a group of them. Any other idea now how no pokeball would change the pokemon world?
