Although I don't think we ever see Arven specifically give his Mabosstiff Pokémon food? In fact we only see him feed it sandwiches, afaik. So I think he might mostly give it "human food", especially since he seems to cook a lot judging by the huge amounts of vegetables in his room. Arven humanizes Mabosstiff a lot cause he views it as his family, I think. He's also one of very few characters in the Pokémon world who doesn't use "it" to refer to his Pokémon, Arven always uses "he" for Mabosstiff which is pretty unusual.
