>I really love the main characters. They have well-defined personalities that contrast nicely with each other. It seems like an abusive relationship, though, and I felt pretty bad for Kris, but I'm glad Kaiji shows some kindness near the end.Kaiji is a complicated character I can't wait to dive back into now that I got through the story backlog. His relationship with Kris is rough at the start, when they'd basically just met and hadn't been through much of anything together, and it certainly wasn't helped by Kaiji's skepticism about how 'real' the Pokémon world actually is. As he spends more time with Kris, he really warms up to him, and as this is their origin story, their future stories will be set at least a few weeks after they've already joined the guild and "settled in". You'll probably notice a bit of a change in their relationship and in Kaiji's personality around the other humans in my next couple of stories. Speaking of...
>All throughout the story, I especially like how clever Kaiji is.Thank you, I tried my best to write him as observant without making it feel like he only miraculously arrives at the right answer through borderline-prophetic dubious guesswork like some sort of shitty Sherlock Holmes. He's used to having to adapt to dangerous situations that erupt without warning due to the circumstances of his human life, which I'll elaborate on in the story after my upcoming McNumel shitpost one. A few other personality quirks of his, like his initial callousness towards native Pokémon, also come from the troubles he faced in the human world...
Another thing you might notice is that his manner of speech isn't very consistent and changes depending on who he's talking to - when attempting to trick the Taliban fighters, he speaks as though he has a looser grasp on the Pokémon language like they do, and when he's with village chief Gumshoos he speaks a bit less informally and more politely.
