Start off with X and Y since it has the largest regional dex out of any game and it's fairly welcoming for newcomers because of its low difficulty. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are there if you want to catch up with the latest generation of pokemon, though it does stray away from a lot of the norms for pokemon games such as the removal of gyms in favor of trials and some of the tutorials and cut scenes get annoying after a while. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are very similar to X and Y, but are remakes of Ruby and Sapphire and doesn't have as large of a regional dex. If you're looking for the best pokemon games, Platinum, HGSS, BW and B2W2 are fantastic options, just don't get Diamond and Pearl since Platinum is the superior version and only play B2W2 after you have completed BW as B2W2 is a sequel rather than a traditional superior version like Platinum or Emerald. Whatever you do, just don't get Lets Go Pikachu or Eevee because these games are going to be as bare-bones as Pokemon games can get and you're going to miss out on fundamental core features and pokemon.
