Because of all the big bans happening lately, it seems like Virizion is suddenly very strong. Togekiss is gone, Cinderace is gone, Dragapult (Fly) is gone, Venusaur is gone, and PsySpam is largely unviable. Plus, the biggest new threats are seemingly Urshifu, Porygon-Z, Lapras, and Amoonguss. Virizion can hit all of these super effectively with STAB, minus Amoonguss, but it has Bounce, which is a great Max Move as well. Additionally, it’s immune to both Rage Powder and Spore. Plus, it can set its own terrain with Max Overgrowth, and then sweep with grassy glide outside of Dynamax.
However, there are still many flaws with Virizion, namely, not many good beat up users (Saftery Goggles Inner Focus Sneasel, anyone?) and still being weak to many of the predicted common archetypes. Lapras + Talonflame Teams are looking very strong, and even though Virizion could maybe beat Lapras in a vacuum, it’s still weak to resonance and will either be outsped with Tailwind or likely OHKO’d by Brave Bird. Another strong archetype should be rain, and although grass should beat rain teams, Kingdra will A) outspeed under rain and B) Almost always carry hurricane.
So what do you think? Could Virizion be a threat in series 6? Or does it just have too many weaknesses?
