>>53450346>TotT: Write a one post review of something you read recently. Or if you're a surly non-reader, write a short critique for one of your own stories. This is more like in general but I often don't like how stories treat Pokemon and human relationships. Or more specifically how the human trainer is viewed.
In the majority of fics, it's agreed upon that if a Pokemon (usually evolved Pokemon or Dragon) doesn't listen to its Trainer then the Trainer is dogshit and too weak to command the Pokemon.
The thing about this trope is that there's no responsibility put on the Pokemon for their misbehavior. If a Pokemon acts like bitch then it's automatically a Trainer's fault or some third-party factor. This especially hits harder when a Trainer is shown putting their life on the line to save their Pokemon but still gets disrespected and then called a punk ass bitch for not being having obedient Pokemon.
I honestly hate it, it makes the Trainer and Pokemon relationship so skewed and one-sided. It should be a partnership, not 1 guy being the punching bag.
It's why I don't like Ash and Charizard's relationship in the anime, he just acts disobedient for no reason and Ash is constantly given shit for it. Every fanfic writer treats it as canon and now we have the fanfic consensus that if your Pokemon randomly decides to act like a little shit then it's your fault.
The only fics I've seen that don't follow this trope are Pikachu bashing fics and this 1 Amorshipping fic where Ash let Charizard go and replaced him with Talonflame. I forgot the name but god I'd love to see more of these fics, it was so cathartic to see Talonflame get so strong while Charizard ate dust.
