You should play it, but please do not buy it firsthand. Either borrow it from your friend or buy secondhand.
You said your last game was BW, and I think you'll find SWSH is nothing like that. It's a smaller, more barebones experience than every previous game, with decent presentation and some good competitive QoL. But from a purely singleplayer angle, I think it is one of the worst games in the series
Bottom line, play it if you want, even just to understand why it falls short, but don't give GameFreak money for it
