This recent trend of people looking at older Pokemon from a compfag pov is fucking embarrassing. A Pokemon's stats were designed around their imagined personality, movepools were shallow because something having a lot of coverage was rare and powerful (and previously the niche of Normal type Pokemon). Fuck, any sort of competitive setting was done via online simulators, we didn't have wifi yet.
It wasn't till Gen 4 where GF designed Pokemon from the ground up to be "competitive" which is also when powercreep shot through the roof and they started using viability as a means to shill Pokemon, i.e Lucario having unique typing, amazing stats and the coveted 100% accurate special fighting move.
Now some like 15 years later 70% of Pokemon come out the box with minmaxed stats, every coverage move under the sun, a 90+ BP signature move that always crits and sucks your dick after, and 3 abilities and/or one ability that's actually several rolled into one.
No fucking shit things like Shiftry or Noctowl or Seviper are shitmons, they were designed back when Gamefreak was like "man it'd be cool if a snake had a blade tail with a mongoose archrival" , not "we need to make a Pokemon that's good at setting up hazards so we'll have it barf toxic spikes passively when hit" or "this Pokemon automatically cuts the opposing side's defense just by being on the field".
Do you retards not understand? The design philosophy for a Pokemon's stats, movepool and abilities today is a whole other planet from what it used to be, you can't have over a decade of every generation massively boosting the powerlevel, then go back to when the the games weren't designed for fucking VGC and go "lmfao shitmons", you just look like an idiot
