>>40510509Because I'm dumb and realized I should probably expand on my gen 3 and 4 statements a bit... Fire Red was my first ever pokemon game, was recommended it by a friend who's super into the series (and she still is, I believe). Picked Charmander, swept through the entire game with just that, typical kid stuff. I've revisited it time and time again over the years and I still really like it, and my mind was fucking blown when I realized that there were more Sevii Islands than just the first 3, and you had to register 60 pokemon in order to access the rest, which then opened up a bunch more pokemon options, elite four rematches, great stuff. I got Emerald a few years later and loved it a ton, must've restarted it start to finish over a dozen times by now. Again, my only gripe with the gen is that it doesn't have the phys/spe split and that, TMs aside, Gen 3 still had some really crappy movepools.
Gen 4's my favorite not entirely due to the original games (I started with Pearl), but because of the mainline games, HGSS (my only experience with gen 2 by that point was because a friend of mine had the guidebook to Gold/Silver), and spinoffs. Ranger games and Mystery Dungeon in specific. Looking back my go to choice for replaying Gen 4 is and will always be Platinum and I don't expect that to change since it's such a step up from the original D/P, but I've never disliked D/P specifically. Looking forward to the Gen 4 remakes, actually, even if my opinion with the series has gotten a bit sour as of Gen 7 (and now 8).
