>>55316698>do you think it's acceptable to mix the twoNo. Why the fuck would you mix the two? Seriously is there an advantage to using both? I can't think of one and I feel like you might know something I don't. Any time I see a writer using both I just assume it's a mistake, because it usually reads like it is one.
>>55320178It's going to give you characters' pokemon a "special snowflake" vibe. That's not a dealbreaker by itself, but just be careful. If your pokemon has a unique name, and a unique appearance in some way, and a unique power of some kind, and the story focuses on them and how special they are and how everyone obsesses over them... bro it's just a mary sue. Maybe dial it back.
Also having too many nicknamed pokemon could get confusing. If for example Ash's pikachu had a nickname in the anime, that would've been fine. If his whole team had nicknames, and so did Misty's, and so did Team Rocket's... it'd be a lot of named characters who don't necessarily need names, and it's a lot of extra information to keep track of that doesn't really help the story. I think they're wise to not typically nickname in official canon.
