The Pokemon anime is in a weird spot. This franchise is big enough now to where we have limited animated specials like every few months, and all of them are more impressive the main show. But people are invested enough in Ash to talk about his tournament arcs, or start huge riots when he doesn't win. I guess its just how long he's been around.
