>>56487000>What makes a good starter trio?Starters are supposed to be the cornerstones of your team. Your companion from the very start of your journey. They're supposed to be memorable, as every single starter Pokemon is someone's first ever Pokemon.
So I guess it really boils down to
>Memorable first and final stages (Second is less important, but still important)>Strong throughout the entire game it debuts inSo a good trio is where all three starters are top-tier picks for a playthrough (In terms of in-game viability) and all three have wonderful, memorable designs.
Utility via HMs, like Fly, is much less important in the games nowadays because of the bonus companion Pokemon. Which I honestly hope changes.
One thing I think Palworld did right is that you use YOUR Pals for roaming, flying, swimming, etc. If I have a Pokemon capable of learning the move Fly, I should be able to fly on that Pokemon. Just without it having an unforgettable HM move shackled to it.
If that were the case, then having a trio where all can be used for traversal would be excellent. Water starter would allow you to swim, obviously. Fire and Grass can be your riding and/or flying mounts depending on their types.
Being able to ride on and actually use your Pokemon more outside of battle would be a great thing moving forward.
Hoenn's starters remain my favorite trio.
