As a lifelong fan who fell out with the Pokemon anime around 2007, my brief experiences with XY were a harrowing reminder to why I stopped watching in the first place: Stiff animation and lifeless backgrounds, uninteresting characters and a shallow plot that felt drawn out only to meet quota. It felt like corporate propaganda trying to pass itself off as something entirely new. The only thing that made it remotely worthwhile was the collective backlash it produced from all corners of the internet-- most notably this place.
